I can totally understand the mindset of people who buy expensive swiss watches (although I personally would never spend multiple thousands on a watch). It's similar to women buying jewellery, a millionare woman would happily spend $20,000 on a ring or necklace; complex, beautiful mechanical watches that are precision engineered and limited edition have the same appeal for millionaire men.

I have a thing for G-Shock watches - I like how their priority is being a tool over a piece of art/jewellery, but they still look cool as fuck on your wrist. Yeah they may be mainly constructed of mostly resin and plastic, and are quartz powered (but if it has remote control to atomic clock signals, like my GWA-1100 does, then it's perpetually accurate to less than a second.)

My two favourites that I wear ATM are my GWA-1100 (Radio controlled, inbuilt compass, world time, stopwatch, timer, alarm etc. And it's all analog which I love), I got a good deal on that at £250:



And my Limited Edition GD-X6900 Casio x Maharishi "Lunar Bonsai" - it's got Moon camo bitches!!!  :



I have a bunch of G-Shocks for sale, mostly older digital ones but I'd be willing to part with the above GD-X6900 MH-2 for a fair price - it's probably worth around £200 but I'd let it go for less with payment in BTC or XMR.

Analog clock always show the status. Have you ever seen a status of the electronic watch? In Vogue is the concept of a classic. It is always current. A Swiss watch is a classic.

Not if they carry a rifle with them to protect that watch.

I think you do not buy that kind of watch for time measuring.
You buy that kind of watch for the feeling that comes along with it.
It as a status symbol, you want other people to recognize you as a guy with wealth and taste.
And for yourself it is a confirmation that you actually have achieved something in live, because you can spend a certain amount of money for an unnecessary thing.

I believe walking around with such an expensive watch is a form of naivety.

I prefer the simplicity so even the bosses in the Mercedes S class have an analog watch instead of these digital/electronic ones. Some people like to buy expensive things so I don't prefer to spend lots of money on watches.

I do that enough hours in the smartphone, but it does not say that Swiss watches have lost their relevance. Performance is also inferior to electronic, but as an attribute they have no equal.

I like my $5 watch and it does it job as well as any other expensive watch so I don't check if it is an american or english watch, all what I need is to work good and have a good design which I like, others are less important. Swiss watches are known for precision and are strong.

I prefer sub $20 Casios. More than a decade battery life, very high quality.

I fully understand your point lol...just because somebody could not afford it or don't like the idea of buying an expensive watch does not give that somebody to call those who do as stupid. We all have the freedom to choose what to buy and what to wear.

I do a lot of shopping on ebay, but I keep an eye on the Chinese. I will not make accusations, I'm just commenting.

In my country the Chinese sell products of poor quality, if you go to buy a Chinese watch, probably will not last more than 8 months.

Besides, who does not love a Rolex? Who does not love a Cartier? Who does not love a Piaget or a Tissot? Oh the swiss watches are amazing.

You have to say this to my younger sister, she loves apple products, every time they launch new version of iphone she wants. Now she wants to buy iphone 7 and of course, my father will buy it for her. Very complicated to understand people's wishes!

All of these status things are good when you walk into the fancy party. If a person comes to work on cleaning the trash cans in the watches "rolex" that you do not even notice because the majority of people do not know what they look like.

its not stupid if you can afford it and not being in debt, i have a rolex worth about 7k that will live longer than me, i also dont gamble, spend money on alcohol or females, own property, car, smartphone or fancy clothes

I agree, a status thing. Switzerland several centuries were spent trying to watch their received status. If people are buying the watch for status, then why blame them? I am for all the people bought only high-status things.

The real question is, "Do Swiss witches buy Swiss watches?"

 

There is not much need for watches in 2016 since we all check the time on our smart phones. It is now just a fashion/status thing.

You can wear the same swiss watch for 10 years or you can change a fancy chinese watch every year for 20 years at the same cost.

A Swiss watch is just like a fine automobile its just that people liek you have no appreciation for what's under the hood.

On what basis is your argument because I don't understand. I have my money and I am at liberty to use it on any way I want. Whether Swiss or American or English watches, everything is used to check time or the time American watches will display will be different from the one my Swatch will display? And the fact that you are not using Swiss watches has now make you smarter? I doubt that.

Thats purely aesthetic. I'm wearing a wristwatch and I do check time on it, but if u were to ask me why am I wearing it in the first place, it would mostly be for aesthetics. So dont bash your head about it, it's somewhat the same as with apple products. Those who buy them, if they're not working with graphic/sound design, it's just because it' apple product.

I agree with you. Swiss watch is the brand. A symbol of prosperity. Such status of Affairs in the world a lot. People who buy a watch for $ 500000-1000000 not a disaster. I doubt that they will carry Cassio for $ 15 because they are more accurate.

Watches are status simbols, nowadays noone buy it for checking the time on it, it's more like appearance.

American Chinese or English watches are way better, more reliable, and offer more value for the same pricing. Let's put this industry down worldwide. Any buying to a Swiss company or corporation is a proof of stupidity or lack of options
