To bypass the limit, you have to surf the forum for 6 minutes or so. It can be a good idea to solve spam problems. As your activity increases, you would be able to get a lower waiting time until it is hardly noticeable.
One way to avoid getting this limit is it google "countdown timer" and set the timer to 6 minutes, don't post until the timer goes off. It is an app that is on the search results so you don't even need to go to a website.

It is just a few weeks of posting before you can post quite frequently without waiting long between post; be patient!

If I remember correctly, you just have to attein the rank of Member to have an unrestricted account.
Not exactly, unrestricted, there are still a small wait time to prevent spam. It should just be enough for a person to properly construct a post and post it. After member, you should be able to ignore the restriction.

It keeps saying the last message sent from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. OVER. And OVER. AND OVER. AGAIN.

We have all gone through that period and can understand it is kind of annoying, but the system is there to prevent people signing up new accounts to spam the forum with posts and PMs.

Just open another tab on your browser to do whatever you want, and come back to bitcointalk to make your post after 6 minutes. Smiley

When you try to post before the end of the 360seconds period your post is not published and a new 360seconds period starts

And so you shouldn't rush to make your post. As I said, just open another tab to read some news or watch some cat videos, and come back afterwards. Smiley

I'd suggest you simply copy each message before posting and try again after some time whenever you fail to post.

If you lose a post due to the limit, a draft will be saved.

Thanks for telling it. I didn't know there was a 'Draft' feature. Was there any ANN ?

why does a login count as a post in the 360 second timer. i think it catches a lot of newer people out.
is a login that counts really required ?
Exactly. And search limit is also stupid IMO.

The forum search doesn't work very well indeed, and so I never use it to be honest.
It is much easier and better to use google search with site:bitcointalk.org.

That is good idea. I just search on Google and I get the results what I wanted. You can use bitcointa.lk , it has good search engine.

Kindly,

Without a limit the server resource will be consumed fast leading to unprecedented downtime.
It doesn't mean the limit can't be smaller.

Read the damn posts above you. This is to prevent spam from new people. You don't need to post more frequently than every 6 minutes anyways.

It keeps saying the last message sent from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. OVER. And OVER. AND OVER. AGAIN.

It's because you have the status 'brand new', when you become 'newbie' you can post faster. The higher the rank, the shorter the waiting time.

No, that's not correct, the limitations for "Brand New" and "Newbie" are the same.
Please refrain from posting misleading replies.
Once you get 16 activity you can "post" once every 74 (IIRC) seconds.

Sadly that's how the system works , it pisses off new users but once you gone past it , its all worth it, but yeah its hard to survive those first 14days. :p

Since March:

A draft is now saved whenever you post or preview a PM or post. You can see your saved drafts here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts

It is a good feature, but could've used it when I first signed up as the 6 minute restrictions used to get me a lot haha.

Basically , you need to post once ever 360 seconds for the first few weeks.
By the time you reach Jr. Member , you will only occasionally blocked , and once you finally reach Member, you will not notice it unless you spam.

I'd suggest you simply copy each message before posting and try again after some time whenever you fail to post.
The transition will happen naturally , you don't need to really look at all the formulae.

Another benefit other than stopping spambots is that it teaches Newbies to post less often.

Well, your description is not 100% correct as well.
If you have <= 14 activity, your post limit is 360 seconds, while if you have 15-30 activity, your post limit is just 90 - seconds.

You really need to make sure you wait the 360 seconds after posting. The limit goes down the longer you're on the forums when you get more activity. It's annoying at first but it you get used to it and it quickly goes down the more active you are.

After a week or two of regular posting, this limitation will start going away.

This is to reduce the amount of spam posts by new accounts.
