OK! I haven't had time to update this post in a day or so, but boy have I made progress!

I am officially stable at 30MH on GPU0 and 31.5MH on GPU1 and 2. Woot!

I honestly don't know what I was doing wrong. I think I was doing the bios mod correct all along, but I wasn't downclocking the card a bit. I noticed with the last bios mod I did, when I clocked down the card a bit, it suddenly shot up to 30+MH... so I tweaked the clock settings a bit to find the max MH rate I could get.

Super stoked.

A couple of things I would like to do moving forward, and maybe you guys are interested enough, or willing to help me out!

For some reason, GPU0 does not perform up to the level of GPU1 and 2. I tried physically swapping a different card into the slot GPU0 is in, and the problem stays, so I know it's not a problem with the GPU card itself. My question is, do you think I have something wrong with the actual PCI-E slot? Or perhaps does GPU0 always not perform up to par because windows is running off that GPU? If everyone experiences this with the first GPU then I won't worry about it.

Another thing I want to accomplish if I can, is lowering the power draw. Currently GPU-Z is reporting 107Watts for GPU0, and 109.8Watts for the rest of the GPU's. Currently in dual mining mode. When I single mine it drops down about 95 and 97/98 watts. It also seems GPU0's performance dips if the temp reaches 69c or higher, which doesn't seem that high to me. Is this normal? Before the bios mod, the GPU's would hit 74 or 75c without any performance loss (stayed at the 27-28MH range). I think something is off. Any help here would be appreciated!

Would you please post a link to your modded rom? I have the same card and having issues as well. Thanks!

Tried copying to both the 1750 strap and the 2000 strap, and it seems to have stopped the decline in performance, but I am still not at 32MH... back at 28MH with stock core clock and ram settings.... which is interesting because my other GPU0 is only getting 24MH with completely stock settings...... that I think is a different issue though.

You should also increase memory clock max limit in bios to, say 2250-2300. Mine can make 29.5Mhz at 1166/2150Mhz, but runs very hot due to overvolting. I'm currently reading this forum to find anything, custom ROM and etc. to undervolt this card.

Ok, I tried copying it to the 1750 and 2000 strap, and it lowered performance significantly..

I then just tried replacing the old 1750 strap with the new one the tool output, leaving the 2000 strap alone... and initially I saw 32MH! For a second... then it dropped, rapidly down to 20MH and stabilized there....

I stopped, and restarted the miner and now I'm simply noticing a solid 28.2 - 28.3MH on the card, pretty much no matter what I do to the clock settings it doesn't improve these numbers.... I'm going to try rebooting and see if I can get the 32MH for a second again....

Any idea what could cause that?

My guess is that he meant to replace both straps 1750 and 2000 with that one, as it usually done with strap replacement (some strap gets replaced and every other above it).

I'll try this technique as well, because I bought some XFX cards too. Having same issues here, but I've noticed that the reason cards go down in hashing, is because they throttle. Precicely because of their temperature. XFX make terrible cooling on those cards. My Gigabyte 4Gb RX470  cards do 30Mhs, while working at 70C and eating around 100W each. Meanwhile XFX RX480 go nuts with overvolting itself to hell (1.12v) and overheating as a result (while running at stock clocks, I should add). Afterburner doesn't give me any control over voltage, so all I can do is watch it throttle. Maybe fast timings will help run those cards at much lower clocks, and still make decent Mhashes, don't overvolt itself, and keep nice n cool like any other normal card =). Will post my findings later here....and yes, I recommend Gigabyte 4GB RX470 as best card, well, almost best because it doesn't have dual bios thing.

You can use this tool to improve your hashrate.. copy your default 1750 (if samsung) timing into the tool and use the output in your modded bios for some mhs gain (Someone else on this forum made this awesome tool) I get 30+mhs with samsung mem on my 480s at 2100 mem clock and 1130 core clock

Nevermind! I did notice a difference in the output... now last question, do I use this only on the 1750 strap, or the 1750 and 2000 strap?

Thanks for the reply! I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at with this tool... my 1750 strap is:
777000000000000022CC1C00106A6D4DD0571016B90D060C006AE70014051420FA8900A00300000 01B11333DC0303A17

Do you mind inputting it into the tool and telling me the output? It keeps giving me back the same key I'm putting in...

UPDATE:

I have given up on GPU0 and have moved to GPU1 bios flashing. Was starting to think maybe I had a bad card or something else was causing GPU0 to not work well (maybe a bad PCI-E slot? Will test that next, leaning towards it being a *bad* card)

Upon flashing GPU1. Same model card, same Samsung memory.

Stock core and ram (1288/2000). Improved from 27.9MH to 28.2MH. Power draw according the GPU-Z is about the same as the stock bios (109.9w).

Overall, an improvement! Now to try and push to 30MH. First let's up the ram to 2250. About the same, between 28.1 and 28.2MH. Let's see what upping the power limit to +10% does. Again, pretty much the same. Let's try 20%, just make sure it's not a power issue. Results are the same. Back down to +/- 0%. At this point I am running out of things to mess with. Let's try upping the core clock a bit, but I'm going to finish this post as I might (probably will) blue screen when I up the clock.

I'll update when I return...

Hey Guys and Gals!

I recently purchased 3x XFX RX 480 8GB RX-480P8LFLR from Best Buy. It has Samsung memory.

Currently I am getting a steady 27.8MH per card, all I have done so far is overclocked the memory to 2250mhz.

I've read thread after thread of people achieving 30-32MH per card with RX 480 8gb, but only with bios mods... So I've tried to find a bios mod for my specific card, with no success.

Then I went the route of doing it myself. The cards have Samsung memory, I found a couple guides... which all said basically the same thing. Copy the 1750mhz strap to the 2000mhz strap, and flash it onto the card. After doing that, my card loses lots of performance and drops down to 5 or 6 MH.

I've tried clicking Reset in Wattman after flashing the bios as well in case there was any wonkiness going on in the settings.

Could someone please assist me, or if anyone has a working bios for this card and could share it... I would greatly appreciate it! Ultimately, I'd love to hit 30-32MH, while not increasing the power usage too much... I've seen some cards able to hit 30-32MH while lowering power consumption, which would be incredible....

Thanks again! I hope you guys can help me figure this out, I've been wracking my brain all night on it Smiley
