I agree but somehow opposite opinion is also true.
Most of the newbies are trolls and they are running multiple accounts. This is where all problems come from.

As someone has mentioned, there are a few things that you can trust in terms of knowledge:

- Rank will give you an indication, but is not perfect.
- Earned merit is a very good indication.
- Users that are legendary and participate daily, moderators, etc... they are normally good sources of information.

High rank here stands for long-term historical participation in the forum by posting, and as of this year, recently obtained ranks have evolved and in addition need to be capable of making decent content in the process. Rank is therefore not strictly related to a specific knowledge on block chain, trading or crypto as you put it, but as to how invested (time-wise) one is on the forum over the past. What one does in that time is what determines one knowledge in the areas that you indicate.

There are Newbies/Jr. Members that participate on occasion in the more technical sections of the forum (Mining Altcoins, Bitcoin Technical Support, Bitcoin Development & Technical Discussion for example), get merited there for the first time, have a good understanding of the matters at hand, but don’t care about rank nor merit. Cases like these are actually more frequent than one might think (see Analysis – The Merit Path – Where we start off and the path we follow).

There is nevertheless a more likely understanding of the crypto world and the forum itself in terms of proportion in the higher ranks than on the lower ranks (just compare in general terms the posts made around by ones and others), but it certainly does not make rank a synonym of knowledge.

The arrogance part you state goes in any case with the person’s character, perhaps influenced here specifically by a certain boredom to fencing with certain repetitive topics recurrently over the years.

Ranks don't matter, really, if you're in it for the discussion and knowledge. There are a few legendaries I know back then that doesn't even know how to sign a message using their bitcoin address so your assumption is somewhat true. Also, ranks are available in this forum to distinguish people who are really into forum posting and a small incentive for those who spent a long time within the boards. There's not much really weight into it other than bragging rights that I have spent X amount of time and posted X amount of posts in this forum.

Knowledge isn't define by ranks; a great example is the current POTUS and his puny officials backing him on everything.

I'm one of those who don't know how to sign message but I do know how to do it in ETH. I might try to learn it on electrum.  I'm no technical person too, I was just here long before the merit system were deployed so I got my rank. Not that I'm smarter. If I weren't hired by someone who pays BTC I wouldn't be here in this forum which I learned some of the very basics in crypto, I guess I just have to learn more if ranks has to be measured that way.

One should take some time to read and understand what is cryptocurrency and the forum for cryptocurrency discussions all about and this will imply how one could and act and impart the knowledge about cryptocurrency.

I agree with all of you but in the new age of bitcointalk forum where the merit is implemented, then things has changed. Merits has come to prove that user with good posts and cryptocurrency enthusiast will be able to rank up. On the contrary, those users who are not a good poster or average poster will not be able to receive merits and will not be able to rank up.

but I have no difference between Legendary and newbie members. "The only people who care about this difference are the campaign managers."

It's about your name[posting quality, not your rank.

No one said that higher ranks are smarter. I don't think that is what it should imply.

All of us here has the knowledge and capabilities but i believe on high ranks that has a greater participation on the development of this forum and cryptocurrency discussions. Thanks to merit system, one could identify now who among are the good poster or not which indicates knowledge and capabilities.

Merits(earned) are very important in here, it shows your level of commitment to the forum and also that in one way or the other you're contributing to the forum, or the fact that at one time or the other you've assisted someone in here, not exactly as you@OP are doing right now... And merits determine rank, so I think 75% of high ranked members are more in the know than noobs, you can just walk into here after 2 months and start putting it to people that have been here from the outset that you're better than'em...

If you are, then rank up,thats how to show it

This is just a measure of usefulness to other people on the forum. Which I think is working.
Just look at how changing 0 to 1 merit requirement for becoming the Junior member of the forum changed the amount of shitposting.
I think this is a great way of moderating and controlling the group

I do not know if I understand what you mean, but I have no difference between Legendary and newbie members. "The only people who care about this difference are the campaign managers."
Everyone has the freedom to share what he wants without restrictions, and many of the topics of low-level members are more critical than high-ranking members.

Somehow high rank members hold great knowledge and capabilities in cryptocurrency. It may not be apply to all high rank members but most their of posts are good. Check meta and this section(Begginers and Help) and see it for yourself who among the members giving valuable inputs regarding on the technical discussions for the forum and other aspects related to cryptocurrency.

You may be right because not all high ranks are good and knowledgeable in cryptocurrency. There are many users in this forum has rank because they were just here earlier days where merit was not required to rank up. It just need an activity for them to be promoted.

And it has been updated already by theymos

In addition to activity, everyone now has a merit score, and you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks. The required scores are:

Rank   Required                       activity          Required merit
Brand new                                   0                  0
Newbie                                       1                   0
Jr Member                                  30                 1
Member                                     60                 10
Full Member                               20                100
Sr. Member                               240               250
Hero Member                            480               500
Legendary   Random in the range 775-1030    1000

How to get Merits?

You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts. Additionally, when someone sends you merit points, half of those points can be sent by you to other people.

The point is that if you can rank up with the new requirement then you are basically good and this is what happen to the forum right now. Most of the self made high rank accounts are knowledgeable when it comes to cryptocurrency. Basically, rank is the basis for the knowledge and capabilities you have in cryptocurrency.

Firstly you need to fix your English, in here we communicate strictly with that.
There is no vendetta against lower ranked members,if you feel you have half a decent knowledge in here, start contributing and rank up,its quite easy for you isn't it??
Who cares about the outside world,we do not have any get together parties or dinners,do we? All we need is your contribution in here, and it's a fact that 80% noobs(You included) aren't doing that at all
Do you agree with me? The OP concentrated on possible discussion about ranking here.
This is an obvious sign that you really aren't knowledgeable in here, you are the OP, and you're talking like you're quoting some text or something..
Well I'll assist you a bit, OP simply means original poster not Other posters and on this thread, sadly you happen to be him or her

Of course ranks doesn't accurately measure knowledge on cryptocurrency.
But if your highly knowledgeable lower ranked members keep sharing and contributing to discussions they are almost sure to rank up.

You can convince people of your knowledge if you don't contribute.

Also some users were airdropped merits early this year by virtue of their being on the forum before then.
So basically they were more awake to changing tines and opportunities and that pits them ahead already of the more knowledgeable users joining in late.

It is not a competition though. Just adds to the dynamics of the forum.

Do you agree with me? The OP concentrated on possible discussion about ranking here. Im not in favor that high ranks here know more than lower ranks here every aspect. There are certain of people who are well experienced in blockchain, trading, crypto who are just a low rank here but contain much info than some high rank here. It is just a level here but if we go to the outside world individual traits are more dominant on person's caliber. You can say that he is a Hero rank, but on the outside world he cant be compared with an Business Tycoob like you who grraduated on famous school. What is important here is the attitude that remains on the ground. That is something more admirable here. I saw some but most hgih ranks are arrogant.
