Browsing the deep web, I found a wallet.dat, download it and import it to electrum and to my surprise it contains millions of bitcoin, what can I do? I'm pretty scared, I just created an account on this forum right now just to post this.

I attach the photos of the wallet

https://ibb.co/h7QsFbs
https://ibb.co/GddchVZ

I uploaded the video to YouTube showing all the transactions and addresses associated with the wallet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH1s6mCky7w

Me: is electrum support wallet.dat file?
Gemini: No, Electrum does not directly support the "wallet.dat" file, which is typically used by Bitcoin Core, not Electrum; instead, Electrum uses its own format for storing wallet data, so you won't find a "wallet.dat" file when using Electrum.

Those aren't "millions of bitcoins", that's only 330k+ BTC. Electrum is showing you the units in millibitcoins.
He needs to know about Bitcoin units as well as how to customize display of Bitcoin unit in Electrum wallet.

Setup Electrum [Guide].
It's simple, and in Electrum wallet, do this.
Tools > Preferences > Appearance and changing the Base unit to either of following available units: BTC, mBTC, bits, sat.

Bitcoin has more units than that.

It’s a heavily passphrase encrypted wallet.dat & it is close to impossible that you will ever be able to be able to access those coins. Yeah it looks cool that you have the wallet.dat but many other people do & none of them have been able to access the coins.

What I gather from this discussion is that the OP cannot access the wallet at all. In simple terms, when he has just found a "treasure" he should immediately try by transferring it to a random address or his own with the intention of trying to access it. So, I can conclude that this is all a joke, plus OP didn't provide the latest update regarding all of this.

Well wouldn't that be something to just stumble upon a crap load of bitcoins on a glorious weekend surfing the dark web lmao wtf dude in what world you don't just find bitcoins chilling out in the open on the dark web, do you? I've never been on hahah but man if this was real I would say you are a wild man but no doubt you don't have access to these coins and this is all a noob or a joke. If you did then send one to my wallet address in my profile link and prove it Wink One can dream though right? There is a chance you can find treasure in this life! Maybe one day someone will try to dig up that huge trash mound that one dude lost his bitcoin hard drive in the UK or someting haha.

No response from the OP yet, which isn't surprising if you ask me, so it's safe to assume that he's not coming back ever again. I'm curious though, did he actually find the wallet.dat file somewhere on the darknet? Did he purchase it? Was this an attempt to sell it here and scam someone else? Did he actually believe that he had access to those coins? Who knows, but for some reason, I'm quite confident that this wasn't a show, he actually thought he'd be able to withdraw the money, when he saw that the other members were right, he was too embarrassed to admit that he was stupid enough to believe he'd become rich overnight.

No update from the OP yet, and to be honest, I doubt we'll ever have one. It's over 24 hours since he last mentioned that he's planning on moving the coins, while of course, the coins haven't been moved from any of the wallets. Chances are that he's too disappointed to admit that the users who mentioned that he has no practical access to the wallet.dat file are right, and he was wrong. I'm even doubting the scenario of him finding the wallet.dat randomly on the darknet, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually bought it (was scammed) by someone who told him he was unable to retrieve the coins, but he possibly could.
The wallet has been shared publicly. The fact that OP could even find that wallet with bitcoins still in it shows that other people must have tried to access the bitcoins but could not. I am even amazed that he was arguing with those who clearly told him he could not access those bitcoins and could not do anything with them. Now he is not here to share with us whether his attempt was successful. I won’t feel any pity for him if he was actually scammed because he seems so desperate to me.

Newbies really need to be careful about what they do and who they interact with on the internet. Someone who cannot tell the difference between the different denominations of Bitcoin should be cautious about what they do in the crypto space. Arguing with those who are more experienced in the system baffles me the most.

The only way to find out if it can be transferred is to try sending it to a specific address. If you’re worried about spending it, don’t worry, just transfer it without actually using it. That way, you can confirm if it’s legitimate or not, because it might just be fake.

Here’s what happened to me before: someone sent me a private key for a MEW wallet that supposedly had a lot of ETH tokens. However, there was no ETH to cover the gas fees. I decided to send some ETH for the gas, but it turned out to be a scam as every time I sent ETH, it would automatically get transferred out. Lesson learned,  Grin

If you are worried about the legality of moving or even accessing the funds, there is a better way. Simply use Electrum to sign the following message using the 1Feex... address and we all will be believers.

Code:
My bitcointalk username is btcpruebasija and today is January 18, 2025.
As requested by odolvlobo, I am signing this message using the bitcoin
address 1FeexV6bAHb8ybZjqQMjJrcCrHGW9sb6uF to prove that I have its
private key.

To sign a message in Electrum, click on the address and select Sign/Verify, copy/paste the message above and click Sign. Then post the results here.

So can anyone here confirm or deny OP was able to move a single Satoshi out of those addresses to an external wallet? I know this is likely just a case of someone very inexperienced dealing with a fake wallet they found within the deep web. However,  it has still got me very curious, there is a minimal (but non-zero chance) this guy could have stumbled into something serious and was at the very least, able to move some money out of one of the addresses listed in the electrum interface.
Though, I assume he has not come around here again because something unexpected happened to him. Hopefully he is okey after finding out his dreams of wealth are gone.

The fact he could not tell mBTC from BTC makes me believe this guy does not have much experience with Electrum or Bitcoin en general, by the way...  Sad

Or he was scammed on Darknet and bought the wallet file from a scammer and since he doesn't know what a watch-only wallet is, he came here to the forum to see if he could find a solution. Note that he didn't know that one of the addresses belongs to MTgox and I think he was surprised by the answers here. All I hope is that he doesn't try to scam anyone after he's convinced that he won't be able to spend anything.

This may be one of the most surreal threads I have ever witnessed as a member of this forum, to be honest.
This guy previously made a thread about this in the Spanish section of the forum about his... finding and people there told him about the fact this is likely a watch-only wallet.
I wonder what happened to OP, I would like if he could appear around here again and tell us whether he actually found some private key or all of it was just a disappointment.

~snip~

The OP is either a troll or has one of those fake wallets that are designed to make it look like they have a bunch of coins, but it's actually a watch-only wallet. A few years ago there was a discussion on a forum on this very topic, and someone showed that such a file could be faked.

I don't know if it's a coincidence, but there are at least two more topics that I came across in the last 2-3 days where beginners are trying to sell wallets with tens or even hundreds of coins. It's no wonder, considering that scammers have clearly woken up, but so have legitimate users who remembered that they once had a BTC wallet that might be worth a fortune today - they just lack the password.

You've found Satoshi's wallet, LoL.
Nice joke, buddy, but importing addresses in watch-only mode isn't enough to be able to spend them.
Your wallet looks like you've set up electrum to monitor a list of addresses with balance.
Even if you've faked the electrum source code, this is useless, but it's fine for laughs.

Can't you sign a message? It doesn't need WiFi and won't affect your privacy. Just sign a message from that wallet, post signed message here and we will confirm whether you are real or fake.
If you want a tutorial about how to sign a message from Electrum, here it is, check this image: https://imgur.com/qXbURuy

Now, let's talk about the concerns you have. Can you redeem your Bitcoins? Well, keep in mind that blockchain is public and governments are getting advanced in blockchain analysis. This wallet is very hard to not notice, so keep in mind that all eyes are on you in case you move coins from it. Also, keep in mind that news websites like Cointelegraph, Coindesk and others will publish articles about how Bitcoins moved from one of the famous Bitcoin address that belonged to Mt Gox.
If you really do have access to those Bitcoins, then don't do a thing without doing a very deep research about how to protect your privacy.

Looks like a fairy tail for me because AFAIK you can not import wallet.dat into  Electrum as this wallet  does not support such kind of files.

Am I wrong? If yes, please, give the  step by instruction  how to do this just for the case the luck will be my lady when I start the sieving the deep web  Grin.

Of course it is totally possible to import a wallet.dat file to electrum, anyone who uses electrum on the forum can confirm this

Nope, you can not import wallet.dat into Electrum. The latter allows the import of private key but to get it from wallet.dat file you need to open it with Bitcoin Core first and then, extract it via relevant console command providing pertaining password in the case when the file is encrypted

Thus, as I already said, you story is nothing more than   fairy tail.

Then donate it to the forum or to Theymos wallet address especially.. Lol😂😂.. Since you claim you don't know what to do with the millions of Bitcoin you just discovered, because I'm sure that Bitcoin will literally go a long way for the growth of the forum😂😂...
Ah! I Know you are just joking and the best way to do is to go to a local police station and report it to them. Since you have brought it to the forum, you have to use this to build reputation in the forum and in real life. Using VPN will help him to avoid any unnecessary attack by virus. And another way out for this issue for the Op to donate the bitcoins to a charitable organizations or orphan homes.

Before making the transaction I will use VPN and I will do it from a library wifi connection. I will also be masked for more security.

No VPN will save you from malware in the file. At most you can isolate the file (if you know how to do it) for testing, but nothing more.

What VPN will you be using? The Free TunnelBear you just downloaded? VPNs do not necessarily guarantee privacy. It doesn't make any sense that you've publicly downloaded a wallet.dat file and have access to the wallet, if you did it, how come and someone else hasn't done it already? Why are you getting so pissy when someone points out that the wallet is encrypted? If it isn't, just make a transaction.

I will never ask anyone for any information, you can rest assured, it is not a scam, why are they angry because I just found a treasure?

The issue is that you don't have access to this treasure. And no matter how much you claim, create videos, etc, the only proof that you own those bitcoins will be a transaction made from that wallet. Or a signed message using that wallet. But you can't do either of those things because you don't have access to that wallet.

And from a legal point of view, this wallet is known to everyone as a hacker wallet, and if you by some miracle get access to this wallet and make even one transaction, be sure that in a few hours you will have guests at your house.

Well, I hate to say, but I can see a scam brewing. This is now a common theme, somehow convince people that you have something valuable, but there is one small thing which is restricting you to use that treasure. Then hope that someone will come to you (through PM or telegram) and you can scam him. It is either that or simply a troll attempt. In any case, you need to be tagged. I will be giving negative feedback to you for such pathetic attempt. Run away chose some dumb forum to post this.

haha yea exactly this. what type of moron would brag on a public forum that they have access to $20B. if he had access he could easily move a small amount to a DEX, get monero, and cash out in BTC or stables into a new wallet

I simply wanted to know if there are legal risks when moving funds from the wallet that I found on the deep web, that's why I created this post, I will never ask anyone for information, they make a lot of movies in their head. I WILL NEVER ASK FOR ANY INFORMATION FROM ANYONE!!! I am even receiving many private messages but I will not respond to anyone, because I know that they will scam me, and I do not want to lose my valuable treasure

I was reflecting on what type of information might have been included with that wallet.dat file when you initially discovered and downloaded it. Even if you can successfully load the wallet and see the Bitcoin addresses contained in it you won’t be able to access or move the bitcoins stored in those addresses. The reason is that the wallet is encrypted and without the corresponding password the funds remain inaccessible. This encryption acts as a safeguard ensuring that only the rightful owner with the correct credentials can make transactions.

Thank you very much for your serious response, I will try to move the funds to my personal wallet to see if it asks for a password, can you tell me if there are legal risks in trying to move the funds? thank you so much

So what recommendation do you have for me? Can I try transferring some of those funds to my wallet to see if it works or is it too risky to try?  thank you so much

You're not reading carefully. I wrote to you that you can't do anything with these bitcoins.

This.  Just because you can see the BTC doesn't mean you can spend it.  Go ahead and try.  It will ask you for a password because the wallet.dat is encrypted and you won't be able to provide it because you don't have it.  The password will likely be extremely difficult if not impossible to crack and won't be worth anyone's time to try.  People sell wallets like this all the time to newbies who think maybe it could be worth something.  It isn't.  Sadly.

Well, first of all, there aren't millions Smiley It is set to display the quantity in mBTC.

https://www.talkimg.com/images/2025/01/13/OK6FP.png

That is, there you get 331831.98344229 BTC. Secondly, I checked the very first address, it is the address with bitcoins stolen from MtGox in 2011.

1FeexV6bAHb8ybZjqQMjJrcCrHGW9sb6uF

I am an infamous Bitcoin address containing 79,956 BTC stolen from MtGox in 2011, coins which have never moved since. Many claim me but no one has my key.

I assume that the whole wallet contains the same stolen bitcoins.

And yes, this wallet has not been hacked so far, so I doubt you can do anything with them.

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time believing it. So, you're claiming that you found the wallet file on the darknet, where exactly, why was it available to download, and why was it given away if it was that simple to redeem it?

Perhaps you could sign a message from one of those addresses.

I'm sorry but the first address states that it's owned by the MtGox hacker.

Can you tell me what I gain by making up what I say in this post? nothing!! I am simply telling what I found and I would like to know what I can do or if I can get in trouble for trying to transfer those bitcoins to my personal wallet. Regarding your question, I found it on a very old Russian page on the deep web, many of the transactions the wallet is from 2009

I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time believing it. So, you're claiming that you found the wallet file on the darknet, where exactly, why was it available to download, and why was it given away if it was that simple to redeem it?

Perhaps you could sign a message from one of those addresses.

Browsing the deep web, I found a wallet.dat, download it and import it to electrum and to my surprise it contains millions of bitcoin, what can I do? I'm pretty scared, I just created an account on this forum right now just to post this.

I attach the photos of the wallet

Are you for real? I could only tell of the 21,000,000 bitcoin total supply and 19,800,000 are in circulation while the remaining is yet to be released in circulation. Possibly what you have seen could be the beta test version of Bitcoin but if you claim it to be real why not put up the address for us to see for ourselves through Explorer otherwise you might be tagged as a scammer who wants to lure members into your trick and get them scammed in the pretense of looking for assistance.  If you're for real, I will advise you to do proper research on Bitcoin so you can know more about what you just posted here.

As a newbie here I will advise you to read the forum policy about this information you have just brought here so that you do not get yourself into a problem. Maybe you could make time to properly study things here and know the type of information you bring here so as not to confuse newbies like you.

I have attached photos in the post showing the addresses associated with the wallet.dat and the wallet balance, but if you prefer I can write them directly here.

Spending little by little will be the optimal strategy,
it is advisable to gradually lower the price to $1000 so that everyone does not suspect a problem.
