If you don't want to download and sync Bitcoin Core, then you could use a program such as pywallet (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/pywallet-22-manage-your-wallet-update-required-34028) to dump the private keys which you can then check for balance.

Alternatively, you can use Bitcoin Core to dump the private key, which is easier to install and use. After install Bitcoin Core and load your wallet, you just need to type this command on Console (Window -> Console)

Code:
dumpwallet "name_of_the_dump_file"

The first thing I would do before doing anything else is back up the wallet.dat file to at least one other place.

Probably the most straightforward way of accessing this wallet and spending any coins inside is to simply download, verify, install Bitcoin Core, and let it sync. Once you've done that, replace the wallet.dat it creates with your old one and open Bitcoin Core. It should open your old wallet automatically.

If you don't want to download and sync Bitcoin Core, then you could use a program such as pywallet (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/pywallet-22-manage-your-wallet-update-required-34028) to dump the private keys which you can then check for balance.

If you encrypted the wallet.dat file with a password, you will obviously need to remember it. If you can't, then you'll need to look at using a program such as btcrecover (https://github.com/3rdIteration/btcrecover/) to attempt to brute force it.

Why reposting same stuff and asking the same question from 2017?  Roll Eyes

I want to get rid of an old computer, but I checked it for bitcoins, because I knew I tried to mine this in the past.
The only thing I still have is this:

It include a  wallet.dat file and some other files

I wonder what I safely do to access this
Anyone an Idea where I can find instructions what to do?
And anyone knows where all these files are for?

I started a business in 2009 and when it grew it brought in my own fast game computer for order intake.
This computer got recently replaced, so I wanted to wipe the disks, but I found this:

When I saw this, I remember when Bitcoin started I mined it on this computer but didn't gave it any attention anymore.

My question is.
How can I see if there is any bitcoin in this wallet?
