Agbe you will be the pioneer of where you live and your contribution to education will bear fruit in the future. Believe that you will use it in the future, and continue this kind of struggle because you are a teacher who deserves to be supported. I think your second step after this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-class-in-my-village-high-school-5403925 then it shows a change for the better. I will save this thread as a file that must be saved for evaluation of how Bitcoin really should be used as learning material in schools.
It as already started. Both in the forum and my locality. I am just like celebrity in my area. Everyone calls me boss but I don't like fame and the titles they are giving to me. I love to live a simple like and help the people that need help in my area if only I can do that whenever I have the opportunity. I appreciate you all.

Thanks you for your opinion or suggestion but that was what I did to the students before going to another topics. Check here in case you missed out. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.60433582 even if you read the OP very well you would also see the link of the first class. One of the major challenge I am facing the cognitive ability of the students, most of them are struggling to understand mostly the onset that came late. In any topic in education there was something a starting point. I can not teach wallet without teaching the students the basic meaning and some terms to know the digital Currenciee. If I do that the students Will confused on the subject. So I have to follow the scheme which I drafted out by myself.

Yes this project is a continuous project even when I have been changed from the school I will still initiate it in the new school I would be transferred to. Once again. Thanks you.
Once again, well done Agbe, you have taken a good step in trying to break the concepts down to the students. Just wanted to mention that in your subsequent projects you should try to create a structure for passing the knowledge to the students based on their age groups. Hopefully, this structure will be suitable for replication across the schools and may even be approved by the schools board if you present a proposal. I don't mean to sound too ambitious, but you could consider collaborating with other school teachers so that they will be able to replicate the project in your absence. Think about it.

In my opinion, the initial stage is to introduce them to what bitcoin is. For my class, bitcoin.org is a great resource for telling people what bitcoin is and why it's useful. So about wallet should be a second lesson for those who are new to bitcoin. I hope there are more people who are interested in bitcoin after you do this, surely news about it will quickly spread in your community.

Wow this is a great initiative mate. Big thumb for you. The country really needs more of this to help people learn more about cryptocurrency and bitcoin. Although the government is bent on rubbishing the idea we would keep spreading the information and possible before 2030 we will have more open places/companies where bitcoin can be use for transactions. Once again thank you and keep up the good work

I always appreciate all kinds of efforts to make it easier for people to learn, especially wanting to introduce and guide people to learn about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. This may not be easy for everyone, especially when paying for a laptop and dedicated to teaching. However, this has become one of our motivators in the crypto world that there are still many people who care and want to know and learn about crypto. In the midst of a lot of negative news about crypto, it turns out that many people have their lives saved because of crypto.
Although this may not be easy to explain to them about crypto, and not guarantee them what we can earn from crypto. let them know and understand by themselves how crypto will give them income.

This is really a good effort made by the op. Not everyone has the mindset of sharing valuable knowledge. Proud of you! Keep Going!
Thanks you very much for the encouragement. But not that others can not do it but not everyone can teach. There are some people in this forum that are far better than me on bitcoin but most of them can teach others people to understand but they can make comments, correct you and create thread but to teach is out of their dictionary. While there are some people that are not too good in bitcoin but the small knowledge they have, they can pass it to other people. This thing I am saying, it is not only in this forum but also in real life.
If you are really that willing and serious on passing up knowledge and opportunities which bitcoin could give then it wouldnt matter on what level of knowledge or information you do know as long you do able to share

up with the basic or something that could really be understand right away by other people who do have zero knowledge then that what surely counts. Not everyone could really make out such sacrifice on buying

up something or using their campaign pay to buy a laptop just for the sole intent on having those practical classes. These kind of acts are commendable and much appreciated.

That’s amazing OP & thank you for sharing. Nice to see positive stories coming from the forum regarding signature campaigns. I see lots of people moaning about signature campaigns & sometimes spamming but this is an example of why they should never be stopped.

Good luck to you OP & all the children that this helps.
This is indeed the opposite of what we have been seeing around and in all my time on this forum, I have never come across such initiatives by signature participants to use their funds to educate others. I have seen a lot of charity but educating young people on cryptocurrency is such a unique way to give back to society and this should be encouraged.

This is the kind of love for humanity that we are looking, having to use the little you have to help others grow without looking for material gain. This alone had shown that op has good things in mind to help his students to learn more about and the blockchain network. This is a big sacrifice and I like the feelings and how op had been doing and fixing things to make sure that his pupils learn more than what the school curriculum says.

good achievement for Agbe.
very wise when you get paid from campaigns in this forum and with a sincere heart you want to buy something of value for those in need. i really admired you when you bought laptops for school children and you sincerely taught them about bitcoin for basic knowledge in the future.
for me lessons about bitcoin like lessons that are valuable in the future and more valuable than other students.
and i really salute you when you ventured to meet the principal asking for permission to give lessons about bitcoin.
i hope your story provides an example to anyone that will also be done in several countries about bitcoin lessons.

i really appreciate you Agbe

Appreciate your efforts and happy to see the members going this way of educating others also and given you 2 merits for the same I was having so wish you all the luck and hope children learn lot new things with it.

Finally I have used part of my campaign money to buy Laptop for the Village High School for Bitcoin Practical classes. The practical Class was so much fun. Even teachers came and participated and learn new things.  The followings were taught and learned in the first practical class.
Kudos for this great project, keep up the good work! I guess if you need to collect funds for future projects (e.g. setting up a 24/7 full node or something), you could also do a small fundraiser on the forum.

3.   Basic Trading/Investment
When it comes to trading, reading through What Can Happen If You Want to Trade Cryptocurrencies, but You Don’t Know How? might be interesting for the kids. I'm not saying you're guaranteed to lose money, but it's nice to read a few anecdotal examples of people who didn't know how to trade, amongst the barrage of ads that internet users are bombarded with every day, trying to get them into trading and making it seem like a fun, easy way to make money on the side.

Educating the next generation about bitcoin and its associated features is really a needed one. The same being done through OP from his campaign payments shows how focused is his view over bitcoin. whether it is bitcoin or something else associated with technology, there is need of experience only then one will believe in it. Through this one can easily make others trust over it.

This is the best impact a genuine leader can bring into his or her community or family for people to know more about decentralized currency and how  to use it to solve some community problems or family problems in the land. I believe, all those students will never forget this lesson you have brought to the community for them to have a beautiful future. Now that you have thought them the types of wallet, i believe they will definitely know how safe and secured all those wallet they are to the users and how to write down the seed phrase in case they misplace their phone or laptop it will be easy for them to recover their money back.

Awesome initiative op. This is way better than sending money to random groups since some of them are scammers in disguise pretending to help. Smart decision overall.

However, I don't really think this would attract the young generation since it's a difficult learning curve even for adults which is why a simplified easy to understand solution needs to be developed to solve this problem.

Another thing that could scare them off are government restrictions(If any) and there is no solution to this problem.

Great job!

This is what the community/society  need out there, catching them young on the knowledge about cryptocurrency and the way forward about the phase our world is gradually metamorphosing to.

Am sure this is part of the objective of the founding fathers of this forum, and as such it's a great feeling seeing people like you using the privilege gained here and giving it back to society.

Indeed. It's really good to see post like this because it makes me believe that there are still many kind-hearted person out there, willing to help without expecting anything in return. With this movement, you can accomplish win-win scenarios wherein you get to spread awareness and knowledge about bitcoin that is beneficial for our community and at the same time, you are able to help those in need.

Your initiative might be an instrument for those people you have helped to discover and explore bitcoin too. And who know they might be successful in this field as well in the future. It's heartwarming that despite the hardships we face nowadays, people still do good deeds. Hopefully, you'll be able to continue what you're doing and help more people in the future. The campaigns are indeed helpful as extra source of income and could be allocated for a deeper purpose like this one.

This is great. Absolutely wonderful. You did a great job OP. You have really created an impart in them. I strongly believe they would never forget the experience so sudden as they grow. It is something that is part of them now which they would grow up with and live to tell the story which you would forever remain in their hearts.
Now if I may ask OP how do you get them engaged so they don't forget most of what you thought. As you can see, they are little children that would mostly need to keep practicing what you taught them so they can be perfect band fluent in it. Come to talk of it most of them as I see can't afford a mobile or Android device.  I think you should have a thought of it.

OP you took great steps in your mission to educate your students about bitcoin. The extra effort of spending your own money to make this lecture possible is admirable. We are from the same country so I understand the value of the bitcoins you spent, there are so many things you could have done with that money but you made a sacrifice for education. The school and the community will not forget your contribution to make your students prepared for the future of money and tech.

I am speechless. Don't know how I should appreciate your adaption. Very rarely do people adapt Bitcoin from their own pocket. Although earning from signature it's hard work money. You spent it to adapt Bitcoin, it's a great job man. The more important thing is your students learn perfect things related to Bitcoin from the beginning. So they will be blockchain experts soon if they have good intentions to learn. Keep it up bro and best of luck.

You've been great at your job so far, bringing a new initiative into the educational curriculum of your local school. Although, one of is of major concern to me as I see it in the sample photo on OP and that is, it clafly looks like those participating in the lectures are minors. There might be adults and young teenagers but, am not sure minors are ready for this.

Most of all, I like the passion you've taken towards ensuring that these grassroot generations of your locality grasp what is of importance for there future development and the fact that you've taken steps to ensure they get it freely and have some first hand experience with the way it works is what have even drawn the elderly to participate in your class.
Keep up the good work mate and be sure the result of your efforts today would be recognised by your people in years to come.

This is an interesting effort op had made and it is very interesting to know. It is not that easy for op to use his campaign money to get a laptop to teach his pupils so they can learn how the Bitcoin works and those things that is necessary to know about the Bitcoin network. This is a bold step by op to pass the knowledge he once got from the Bitcoin community then passing it to his students is a great move that deserves an accolade.
I applaud the OP magnanimity who really wants to spend his money to buy a laptop for other people educational needs, so far we, especially myself, may also prioritize personal needs over other people's interests, especially regarding matters related to money, but what has been done by the OP is really great and he is willing to spend his money and time teaching poor kids which I think is free education.

Everyone won't be having the mind to spend money to educate others. What OP have done is really a good thing and a must needed one for the growth of bitcoin. When it is being taught to the school kids automatically the growth of bitcoin will begin from the base which is a much required one for a healthy growth. I rather die on my feet than to live on my knees
I like the initiative of this guy.

I would focus more on teaching the properties of sound money applied to Bitcoin instead of teaching the scoundrels of trading.
However, i seconded this too. Although a basic trading is not that bad, i guess teaching them the idea of financially literacy will cause more good than bad when these kids tried on trading.

The goal of spending time (not wasting) with financial literacy is to build up the most difficult concept to accept which is Time Preference. Time Preference is a key component for understanding why trading is not even close to the best options of subjects to teach. I can argue/explain why, in the most humble way. No troll, no irony or sarcasm here.

A sound money such as Bitcoin, will make way more sense once we understand the concept of Time Preference because this concept is what makes people to think more about the future than about the present. And as we are yet at the beginning of Bitcoin, we need to focus our efforts in teaching and rooting this concept into our future generations, as soon as possible. It's known that we tend to be lazy whenever we can. It's known that human kind is easily driven by greed, corruptible by greed, etc. We need to change this mindset the sooner the better.

Time Preference can counter this mindset in the mid/long term. And if you teach it to youngsters, I'm sure in 10 or 15 years, we may have a way better generation than ours, which is filled with corruption, greedy bastards, state control, a complete assault to our privacy, etc.

To end my small (good) rant, Time Preference is a concept that measures how much we discount on the future in detriment of the present, meaning that a Higher Time preference will make us to discount way more our future in detriment of the present. Maskes us to want to get a smaller satisfaction now, than to wait some time to get twice (or more) satisfation in the future. A Short Time Preference means we discount little in the importance we give to the future, allowing us to build a stronger mindset that enables us to hold ourselves tight and wait some time so that we can get the extra satisfaction later!

Does this makes sense? I hope so.
A very clarifying example was a study made by someone (a documentary I watched sometime ago) where the authors of the study invited a few kids of several societies/cultures and several social statuses and made them all a proposition. They were given candies, 2 to each kid iirc, and they were said that if they didn't touch the candies for somthing like 20 or 25 minutes, they would have twice the candies after that time. But they were also said they could eat the candies whenever they wanted, if they wanted. Guess what? Only 2 or 3 out of like 15 kids were mind strong enough to hold their horses and wait for the extra candies. All other kids couldn't hol themselves and end up eating the candies before the dealine.

So it's said that the kids that couldn't hold themselves and ate the candies have Higher Time Preference becaause they discounted way more on the future than the kids that held themselves and waited long enough. The latter are said to have Lower Time Preference because they discounted little (on the importance) of the future, which meant to have extra candies!
And another important fact, it's also said that Lower Time Preference is corelated with higer inteligence, but this claim, I can't backup becaus eI don't remember where I read that. Maybe it was in Bitcoin Standard book or in Fiat Standard book. Can't remember!

Congrats on your Bitcoin classes and I am happy you've bought a laptop for school classes with campaign BTC! It's important to familiarize kids with new technologies, and if there's no laptop in the classroom (and kids don't have smartphones there either), buying one is pretty much a necessity. Boosting the digital and financial literacy of these children can help them create a better future, find better jobs, make more informed decisions about money in their lives. Secondary school is IMO a good age for such classes.

You have really done well, I believe we shouldn't think our kids are to young to learn about cryptocurrency, I think it's better they start learning it from their childhood and they can start making legal money even as they are young, atleast it will help them and in few years they will be professional, they will be financially free, they don't have to be disturbing their parents for money and I believe some will even sponsor their self to higher institution from the money they make from cryptocurrency. That's really a nice idea and you have done well, I believe other people will learn from you.

However, i seconded this too. Although a basic trading is not that bad, i guess teaching them the idea of financially literacy will cause more good than bad when these kids tried on trading.

Yea I do agree with this one. I mean trading is a very higggghhhhh riskk even for professional traders can still lose. teaching them about finances and how to invest in a safer way would be great. and teach about how cryptocurrency work and how compare it with centralized financial system.

You'll turn to be an inspiration for the kids that learn out of the efforts from you. What you sow will get reaped. With the efforts put forth you'll get the best results out of it. In particular what you do now will be continued by the kids that learn from you. Maybe our forum can create some program to educate people conducting seminars through the users residing in specific locations. Here Agbe is there, same as this everywhere we can't see people with similar mindset.
Not everyone deserve him but his good deed is unmeasurable considering he donated his own money to buy a new laptop for the purpose of helping the school and the children. A very good initiative that most people won't do but I hope someday you will get what you deserve and I'd like to see those children in the future making difference just like what you did. Not everyone can do it but they will be forever grateful of what you did to them to help them learn something that most schools won't teach it since it's a crypto.

Allow me a positive criticism.

You are doing an outstanding job there, no question about that. However, if I were wearing your shoes, I would focus more on teaching the properties of sound money applied to Bitcoin instead of teaching the scoundrels of trading. Trading might deveplop the wrong mindset in youngsters as they will be likely to pay more attention to the quick profits of trading, than to understand the economic underlyings of Bitcoin. Trading may drive students to the shitcoinery and create the opposite effect we all seek which is Bitcoin educations, adoption, etc.
Totally recommendable and good initiative on what Op did and hope that others will be doing the same into those remote places on where bitcoin or crypto hadnt been heard off on which on this way at least do spread
up some awareness even on the smallest way or method as possible. It might not really be a huge step but it still something a thing that we do all appreciate because it do really adds up on overall
awareness and recognition of Bitcoin and on whole crypto market. Even myself wont really be seeing on able to achieve on buying a laptop just for the sake of such goal or
target in mind on spreading awareness.

Very commendable OP, I like the involvement and the fact that many users on this forum are taking it upon themselves to educate and teach people both the young and old around them especially in the grassroot and developing countries about crypto. Just the other day, I read about how another user from this forum rented laptops to facilitate learning about crypto in the school he was posted to for his national assignment, these acts should be emulated by other users here.

If we really love bitcoins the way you say you do, ask yourself what role you are playing to facilitate its growth and adoption. You don't need to organize huge lectures/seminars, or spend money on laptops, a simple material like a flyer that is catchy and easily summarize what bitcoin is, can go a long way. let us all get involved.

You are very kind because of donated the money you earned from the forum especially because you donated it for the educational purpose and I'm a fan of doing these donations because instead of giving people free money to spend when they need some money you can give them a chance to educate and this will help them to supply their needs themselves also they maybe do the same thing for other people when they get the same situation as you do, also the good point of this donation is about the source of the donation which is a signature campaign and this can be another positive point to say how bitcoin can help people when they need it.

Besides bitcoin, it's also bitcointalk forum making the difference in people's lives. Many of you might think not, but signature campaigns are a life changing for dozens or maybe hundreds of common citizens who wouldn't have any opportunites to thrive financially if it wasn't for this forum and the services promoting their brands here.

It's the solution for those who can't find a solution for themselves on their local areas and regions, while at same time it's a tool to help those precarious areas to thrive somehow, like OP did purchasing a laptop to share knowledge with his village.

The capitalist society has made virtue of selflessness a very scarce commodity. People are desperately looking for avenue to collect from the society. They want to profit from every service they render to the society. But I am really touched by Agbe's uncommon drive to bless humanity. Selfless giving is providing for people that don't have the resources to give back. You have done what the government has not done. Personally, I would like these children to have at least slightly better conditions in their classrooms, and I hope that something will change for the better in the future.

Thank you for this move in the right direction, I like the fact that your class covers secondary school, this will serve as a basic level guide to they crypto currency journey in the future and that will help them to become financially free from the bondage of the bank and the traditional financial institutions. I love the fact that you are teaching them wallet and the usage because that is the basic step to securing they finances through Bitcoin even if they don't have other technical knowledge for now and i hope you will advance your good job further by covering and teaching them other profitable sectors such as information technology e.g coding, software development and programming I learned that students of that age and class learn to code faster than another age bracket.

Cold wallet are:

There are basically two schools of thought when it comes to hardware wallets. Some would put them in the 'cold wallets' camp but others wouldn't. Then there is the question if they are not cold wallets, are they hot wallets? They are not hot either. The compromise would be to not put them in either camp but add a new section just called hardware wallets. They are cold in the sense that the private keys and seeds don't touch the internet, but they are hot because they are used on computers connected to the internet.

Keep doing good and don't get discouraged for making some mistakes here and there. And don't overwhelm the kids with too much information to create an opposite effect where they lose interest in Bitcoin instead.

Excellent work!

Congratulations bro also thank you for the impartation, how i wish we could make this achievable around the local school within the LGA's (Local Government Area) or other LGA around PHcity would have be a great achievement ever in my life, if we could join together to walk and work around some school within the LGA's. I don't mind rending my 2 system for the practical class in as much as we spread the knowledge across the schools within the LGAs. And lastly reducing much attention on the investment area as many may not comprehend it very well as we do, maybe might think is a get rich quick scheme.

Well done Agbe. You have done well. You have begun to sow a seed in the minds of those young ones. Please always remember to tell them how risky cryptocurrency is so that they do not think it is all rosy. Meanwhile, I'm curious and I want to ask the following questions:
1. What is the age range of the students?
2. How many days did it take you to teach them these important concepts?
3. Aside the online resources, what other offline resources do you plan on utilizing during the classes?

The picture of the classroom is really a sad reminder of what the education system has become in Nigeria where various elected administrations have continued to pay lips service to that sector. Strikes upon strikes from education unions have not deterred the government in anyway in their seamless efforts to run the entire system aground. It's really sad.

First of all, congratulations on earning money from the Bitcointalk forum. Also, you spent it on a really good cause, which will surely motivate someone else too to do the same.
I would like to ask some questions, I hope you will reply back to them.

1. Are you teaching Bitcoin to everyone or a certain age group/gender?
2. If a certain age group/gender, why not everyone?
3. Are you sure they are understanding the actual concept of Bitcoin and not just the monetary value?

Good Luck!  Wink

My comrade thank you very much for your concern. please reduce my stress, all your questions have been answered from my first class thread which I also provided on the OP here based on the kinds of questions that might appear. Now that yours have come, please kindly re-read the OP, the last statement with the link and understand classes that are involved. That is not withstanding. let me answer them but please still read the first thread for more understanding. answering your questions
1. It is for certain classes (JSS 1-SS3)
2. When you say everyone, it means even nursery and primary one, which is not good. so I used Secondary schoo
3. Yes, they are understand the actual concept based on the evaluation.

Brilliant, Agbe. Think I've seen your previous posts before -- I always say and repeat: keep things simple, for the sake of simplicity, it's okay to sacrifice technical accuracy so you get the kids motivated and interested. Eventually, we all learn more and correct our assumptions, and realise later some assumptions aren't important to the user

The concern shouldn't be to correct at this stage, but to provide a basic foundation. And perhaps at this stage, it's more of economics than of computer science Wink

I would question teaching trading/investment though, even if it is Bitcoin's biggest use case at the moment, and yes, that is unpopular to accept.

What a great initiative and everyone appreciates what you're doing in your community there. Teaching kids about bitcoin at a young age will help them realize that this is the future. And it's not just all about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies and blockchain but all about technology which will open their minds that there is certainly a lot of it. I think this can be expanded in other nearby schools if you go ahead and ask for some help and support from the local officials.

Very nice of you!

About the classes.. you should ask more on the forum. The fact you have small errors here and there means that you didn't understand everything perfectly. And this usually translates into students not understanding everything perfectly. And unfortunately, in the bitcoin world, misunderstandings can easily translate into funds lost.

I don't want you stop teaching them, no way, you're on the great direction. Just you too have to keep learning.

Great initiative. You have been doing a really great job for the students you are charged with educating. The basic school system teaches very little about what one would experience in real life, thank you for changing that a bit.

I am actually more excited you are teaching investments, I would assume that would come with financial education and how to manage money which is a core component of making investments. Also utilize resources like books, videos or articles to make the lessons more fun for the kids, or those who are interested.

That is a good initiative, but you still make mistakes, it would be good if you correct that.

Like what is crypto wallet. For me to be specific, I will use bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not stored on wallet, it is stored on blockchain which is an open ledger that is available to the public, the wallet generates the seed phrase,  keys (private and public keys) and addresses. The private key and the seed phrase can be used to recover your wallet and coins and generate the same addresses. The private key also is used to generate a signature for signing transaction. Bitcoin is sent to address which is a harsh from the public key and can be given to anyone just like bank account number.

Two types of wallets:
  • Online/hot wallet
  • Offline cold wallet

Online wallets are of three types:
  • Web wallet
  • mobile wallet
  • desktopwallet

Cold wallet are:
  • paper wallet, if properly generated on air gapped device
  • reputed hardware wallet
  • wallet generated on air gapped device like Electrum cold storage

About trading and investment, you need to let them know how trading is highly risky.

Thank for the minor corrections. I am very happy that people like you are here with me. I know myself that I am not perfect but I am trying my best to make sure I do my best to impact the acquired knowledge to them. Kudos to you for this initiative, giving knowledge back to society is the most valuable gift any individual can give his/her generation. And Agbe you have done well by investing in the knowledge building of students in your area, I encourage you to cover more topics such as blockchain and finances. I have a similar charity program currently running for some time, but my mind is focused on young graduates and not secondary school students as I view them to be too young to be bordered by the problematic financial economy and monetary theories but then I still believe your initiative to the cash they mind young.
