Because of the huge amount of money involved people are coming up with their different conspiracy theories. I believe these funds can't be spent because they are closely monitor and if someone try to move it, that shows that something is wrong and all the people involved directly and indirectly with the exchange should be arrested because this is someone's hard earn money

I'm not very updated with this incident, my reaction is what?!  Shocked
The dogs has been given a last will testament worth $100,000 and yeah those users that lost money aren't taken into consideration? There are other angles that comes out with this incident. I don't know who to believe and what's story is the real one or he's really dead? A lot question is coming on my mind but I'll wait until this case is closed.

It's a semi-joke but I'm also semi-serious - this could be a great use case for a smart contract and a trusted oracle that can rule whether there was a murder.

There will always be conspriracy theories whenever something like this happens. Some are true, some fabricated. It could be that mr.cotton just decided to run away with people's money and is somewhere under a different identity. A person with that much money can bribe his way through authorities you know.

Clearly he was a wealthy man, but the question remains about the keys to his cold storage wallet. They won't ever be spreadable as people are watching them like the Mt gox bitcoins

Is Gerald Cotten really dead?
Are there even cold storages?
Mysterious past bonds with a convict and an anonymous Reddit user claiming to be “extremely close with the family”.

Cotten files a will just two weeks before death, gives everything to his wife. Sounds so sketchy!

He left $100,000 for his two dogs, but forgot about 100,000 users in QuadrigaCX?
This sure sounds like a Mexican soap with thriller elements.
