The issue with dorms is that usually there is some student dorm supervisor on each floor and they can inspect the unit from time to time to make sure there are no weapons, drugs, or a mining farm.

If you got 1 or 2 GPUs inside a desktop then nobody will say thing. However if they walk into your room, which is boiling hot at 50C and crazy loud, then most likely they will tell you to stop doing it.

The more and more popular cryptos get, more and more people are aware of what mining is. Back in 2012 most likely nobody knew what mining was and you could of gotten away with it. Not anymore.

Don't rely entirely on mining because soon you won't be making 12$ from those cards per day when bear season starts, id say keep swapping your eth to usdt til this bull season is over then sit back and think what you can do to make money, mining profitability is just temporary
Yes he is right wait like a month and lets see what happens. Today was critical day must see how it goes now

Hey y'all, I'm new to this forum so if I break any social norms, my bad. As it stands right now I have a RTX 3080 and a RX 470 (8gb) mining away on nicehash for me. Since I don't have to pay extra for electricity, I'm making $10- $12 a day right now.
Mining pays for everything I do, and up until some recent expenses, I literally have not had to worry about money or work since it is paying for all of my expenses.
I want to take this a bit further but I'm held back by a few things, any suggestions on how I can get around these issues or just other ways I can take advantage of my situation would be appreciated.

Issue #1 : Asics aren't an option. They're far to loud, and even when I get around the noise issues, they won't connect to my dorm's internet since I can't actually login to the dorm internet portal on them.

Issue #2: Hardware cost. As it stands right now, it will cost me a crazy high investment to get some good hardware. I was lucky to pick up 2 470s (one now broken) back in november before BTC started to really take off, however now getting a $150 gpu that can mine is out of the question.
It also doesn't help that the 3080 + 470 are pretty much maxing out my Power supply, so any GPU investment would also have to include some of that baseline hardware. These issues aren't as major though, I have some money so I can work around this if need be.

Issue #3: I move out in one year from dorms. Unless I start making crazy amounts of money, I intend on moving out in May 2022. This gives me roughly one year, before all the hardware has to be flipped.
So profits would have to be (money from mining + money from selling the hardware) - money spent on hardware. I can work around this a little bit, as I have friends who are staying in dorms till as far as 2024, who probably wouldn't mind having a mining rig in their living room, if I slid some money
their way.

Notes-
-Dorms here have a living room, + 4 bedrooms that are private. It's pretty spacious so Noise isn't an issue.
- Power consumption isn't an issue. I have spoken to housing about this, and essentially they've told me that until they don't have any offical policy about how much power I can use, so I'm free to do whatever I want.
- Since we have living rooms heat isn't an issue. I was flipping pc's for a little while and had 3 pc's running at 100% with no noticable heat difference.
