Oh wow. I've been working with local PD and Greendot and (with the nudge of my lawyer) they've escalated to the Internet Fraud Division of the FBI.

Wait until I show them this thread.

PayPal gave me my money back about a week ago... as annoying as it is from a seller's point of view, PayPal is pretty great if you're a buyer who has actually been scammed.

Yup. It's kind of a necessary evil on their part.

mitty, wow!  Shocked your case is worse than mine. I hope Paypal give my money back, otherwise I'll try to cancel in my credit card too. But it take time and it's not 100% sure.

I also got scammed by this guy.

I'm hoping PayPal will give me my money back.

Payment was to [email protected], and I "bought" 6 BFL singles from him for a total of $2900.
Do a chargeback and state you haven't received the physical items from him.
I'm filing PayPal claims, and if that doesn't work I'm going to do chargebacks with my credit cards.  $2000 of the transactions were on a Discover card but the other $900 was on my debit card so I'm hoping PayPal can resolve all of the claims.  I assume it shouldn't be too hard since he didn't provide tracking info and has seemed to disappear. (I think if the seller doesn't respond within 10 days, PayPal automatically closes the dispute and gives the money back to the buyer)

Payment was to [email protected], and I "bought" 6 BFL singles from him for a total of $2900.

When did that happen??
On Dec 24, 2012 he sent me a PM saying that he would sell me two BFL singles for $500/each and would accept PayPal. (I had a topic in the Goods/Computer Hardware forum looking to buy BFL singles.) I gave him my PP email, he sent the invoice, and I paid it.  I replied back to his PM asking if he had any more units for sale, and he said that he'd be willing to sell me two more for $500/each.  He sent me another $1000 invoice which I paid.

Day after Christmas (Dec 26) he posts a topic in the Computer Hardware saying he's selling 4 more BFL singles.  I PM him and ask if they're still available; he replies and says he'll sell me two for $900 or four for $1800.  I ask for two, and he sends me another PayPal invoice, this time for $900, which I also paid.

I then ask for tracking info, and he says he can't find the number but that the package (with the first four) should be there "tomorrow" (Dec 27).  That was the last message I got from him, and no packages have shown up.  He said that the first four were shipped USPS priority, and said that he would "overnight" the other 2, so I should have received all units by now.

On December 28th or so I saw that he was marked as a scammer and immediately opened PayPal disputes for the 3 transactions.  I just escalated 2 to claims, and will do the same for the other tomorrow. (it won't let me do it right now since it hasn't been long enough)

Long story short: it happened on Dec 24, 2012 and Dec 26, 2012.

I wouldn't be surprised if said user was using stolen information, such as a SSN to make all these accounts. Why else would he blatantly bastardize his own name? Regardless enough heat on the name should bring some action sooner or later.

That is possible. But I don't believe so in this case. He also had a Wells Fargo bank account which he also used to make legitimate trades before he went rogue and started scamming people. He also contacted me private to tell me his accout was compromised as a excuse to avoid responsibility for the scamming yet he continues to scam and does nothing to clear his name.

Is it possible to revert the operation? Everybody say Paypal is a big risk to seller because is easy to revert. Is so that easy really? How can I do that?

Call paypal customer service, and explain the situation.

Weird considering he was in a very big rush to buy bitcoin from me today.  Roll Eyes

My instinct said no so I turned him down, listen to your instinct.

"It is a voice that can tell us, who is friend and who is foe. Which ones to hold at arms length, and which ones to keep close. But too often we become distracted by fear, doubt, our own stubborn hopes. We refuse to listen."

Sorry mate.

User sellbitcoins https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/sellbitcoins-71023 sells 20 BTC for US$ 286,00 via Paypal. I paid and he didn't transfer my Bitcoins since yesterday. His email is [email protected] and hist Paypal name is Jeffrey Carlstrom. Probably a fake name. I did the operation without much care because I was in a hurry yesterday, to make an arbitrage. I did it later, with a friend in Facebook. But I lost this 20 BTC or $286 anyway.

His last message was:

"I'm so  sorry I fell asleep! What's your btc address again?"

I sent him again, despite of the fact I had sent a lot of times. Anyone knows how is the easiest manner to cancel this purchase in Paypal? I'm afraid to say I was buying Bitcoins.

Please, anyone help me?  Huh What should I do now?

Thanks so much.
