Keep a backup copy of the wallet.dat. It should be ok but using the last bitcoin-qt with a 2 years old wallet might give unexpected results
Also fwiw the reference client 2 years ago was bitcoin (wx), not bitcoin-qt

Sweet I found it. Thank you guys so much. Now I need to figure out how to use it.

Just load up bitcoin-qt, if it is for the first time, then you probably want to download the blockchain. Once that syncs, then replace that wallet.dat, with your old wallet.dat and run -rescan, and your bitcoins should be there.

You were probably running the reference client (bitcoin-qt). If so, then the file you want is named "wallet.dat". The wallet isn't contained in mining programs like Guiminer.

Since your were mining 2 years it is safe to bet you were using bitcoin-qt, you can search for wallet.dat. Which is the only file you need to get your bitcoins.

Can anybody give me any tips. I started messing with btc like 2 years ago, during that time I was able to get a few of them, but they weren't worth much then. when I decided to stop mining I backed up everything I had that was btc(programs, miners, files etc.etc.) onto my external hdd. Well now I was curious to see if I could get everything setup again and I can't find my wallet. Is there a specific file name I should be looking for? I remember my password. Is the wallet built into the mining software that I used?(guiminer) If anyone could help me that would be great.\
Thanks
