I miss the good old days. I had to sell my bitcoin over the years because of medical bills and I wish I had some, bitcoin was a big part of my life for a decade.

I remember your avatar from a couple years ago.  You were always very helpful and intelligent.  I never wondered what had happened to you because I had ignored so many contributing users in my focus.  But now that I see you again, I notice you were gone.  Smiley

My cousin has MS.  She fought hard and made a career as a life and attitude counsellor on the west coast.   It's a disease that comes and goes and I don't think I would be able to cope the way you guys do; I'd much rather have constant weakness than alternating.

Bitcoin can still be as big a part of your life as you want.   You'll just be dealing with a different decimal position.  Smiley

Feel sad about your story since you're ran nodes and that was a big help to Bitcoin and in crypto space as a whole.
We do have our own responsibilities and priorities, you can't replace life even with the whole wealth in the world. That's the most important thing in life, infact we worked hard for our family and I assume those bills you have paid was spent because he/she is one of the most important person in your life. We all went through that.
Anyway, you still have a lot of time to get back to where you were before. Specially now that Bitcoin is rapidly gaining popularity.
Cheer up!

I'm finding it impossible moving on with my life and in a deep depression, it's like losing my life partner, bitcoin basically became my life. Please no donations, just support.

I can have feeling for this about your life partner being bitcoin. But it is easier to come out of it because bitcoin is just money and you can keep the hope to get more than the bitcoin you had. You need focus and you can achieve more. Using your money to take care of your health and stay alive isva good decision. Make God your life partner and your challenges will be taken care of.

Not just about the money but I miss running 10 nodes to help bitcoin, paper wallets, all the websites, mining, vanitygen, so many memories flood back. I remember my BFL and KNC miners, Bitinstant, Amir Taaki and I still have my alpaca socks. I did so many escrows back in the day.

I'm finding it impossible moving on with my life and in a deep depression, it's like losing my life partner, bitcoin basically became my life. Please no donations, just support.
It would have been nice if that day was the day bitcoin rose so fast. maybe what makes you regret it is because the price of bitcoin is now rising and when you sold it at that time, the price was not that good and maybe long-term hodl would be good, but because an unwanted situation forces you to sell it at that time.
definitely buddy, definitely will really miss a time like that, same time when i miss a good bounty and pay in fast time and also list tokens quickly. we are both at the bottom, but I'm sure there will be a way out and a better time. as long as God still gives us breath, then we have to keep fighting and we fight for it!

Well, you are still part of bitcoin and you are a proof that bitcoin really can change life. I believe that you have been on of the users being benefited with bitcoin system and the things you have done make it as an experience in your part and make you what you are now. You should be glad that you have found and join the bitcoin system. Missing it is not necessary for you can still make things that you like and that all will depend on you.

Yea, I miss that old day too. I miss the time to collect a reward from the faucet every day Grin

I miss the time to see the amount of the coin increase every day in my wallet. I am sure we all miss that old day, but we need to try anything to have a better life in the future, even if the situations and conditions have changed.

same as you but your bitcointalk account more older than me and i still remember there's FPGA miner and oh yea mining with USB Stick i have some that but its already gone. Like i tell in the other post my account got hacked and i just retrieve it in january 2020 and i already sell my bitcoin when around $500 and right now kinda hard to earn money again. and don't give up like i do even tho only watch the bitcoin rising up with smiley face :')

if not for the sake of profit  ( because price now is high and as well as dificulty ) i think it is still possible to do some activities in bitcoin or the one that you guys missed  .

op can still offer an escrow , help other people by sharing knowledge , mine a btc or do work  related to btc using a computer as long as he have the money to buy or upgrade to a good quality computer but if money isnt available atm , he can skip this part . i also miss the old times because i have no responsibility that time just pure fun and exploring btc

Many people are giving up in their bitcoin investments before because bitcoin doesn't have any positive movement in the market and maybe that made other people depressed. Keep on learning and helping yourself adapt on any situation that you are in towards your investments and each and every one of us do really have different problems or struggles. To all people out there who are downed about bitcoin's nature, just keep on hustlin' and seek help so that we can fully and still support bitcoin in its journey.

I don't know if there is a quote like this but it just came into my mind when I started reading this thread. This is the quote.
"You can only say that it is the end if you just stop doing it. Life is a cycle. Sometimes you are down and you are up and one thing that is important is to move on and start again."

Being depressed isn't good for the health. Moving on and start again is the best thing that you can do right now. I see that you are here for quite some time already and you got some skills so why just start again Smiley. Anything is possible in crypto. Good luck to your health and start moving forward now and invest again. I'm pretty sure that the crypto market still has a long road to take Smiley.

Perhaps I would advise you to start again. Maybe you will discover the crypto industry in a new way.

It is not too late to start over again and please don't give up on bitcoin.

Bitcoin is really not an easy to handle, it is an asset that needs a lot of attention when you are planning to deal with it in the market.

It also helped to survive and sustain my needs whenever I need them and bitcoin became my hope for these past few years.

Especially during this bull run, it will really give me a huge amount of profit as I hold mine patiently.

Always keep your heads up and explore and understand cryptocurrency world much better.

I can really see your passion in supporting Bitcoin way back before when there's not much adoption is there, but what I can advise is that you don't need to feel frustrated, you are part of the earliest Bitcoin adopters, and look what you have supported before now. Bitcoin is breaking its own record especially it has already reached a new ATH, and not just that, almost the entire cryptocurrency space already reached $1 Trillion market Capitalization which is a good indication of a healthy market looking forward.

Going back, as an early adopter, you are always free to enter back again and explore the updates in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, I am pretty sure that you can easily cope up with the changes.

OP, can you tell us how it was like in the bitcointalkforums back ten years ago?  Obviously it is no where like how it is the last few years... but back then, how many btc did you have?

Also people were basically treating btc like nothing much right?  I heard lot of ppl mention how they use to buy btc to use at the online casino and i think they said btc was like a dollar or pennies.  So lot of ppl back then just had hundreds or thousands of btc and basically treated it like it was nothing right?

Well it was more about the technology. There was Alpaca socks, that was the best. There was even a bitcoin faucet. I've moved around a hundred coins when they were cents. Then we were mining just to keep the network decentralized, I lost money to help that effort. It was fun until mtgox got hacked. I didn't lose from that but I had less coins by then and none now.

Op is much worried of missing the very beginning days. I find people feeling sad of missing the past year 2020. The price was just around $10k for a long. People thought of buying when it falls low to that, and to the expectation the market grew high reaching the present value. Probably the mind gets disturbed alot when we have made some unwanted expenses cashing out bitcoin and the same now valued much higher and worthless.

Need not to worry mate, things will change only time matters. You didn't wasted those money on unnecessary stuffs it's health which is more precious than wealth if I am not wrong, I understand you will be in lot of disappointment you just missed an opportunity and this is not going to end and I don't want to give explanation about BTC as you are already aware of it like how powerful coin it is so have faith and wait for your turn.

I came back to crypto few years after selling my share for small profit. Do I have some regrets or feeling missing out? Yeah. But that's exactly what made me come back. This time tho, I'd be hopefully wiser.

Don't worry OP, life goes on. We miss many opportunities during our lives and we only get to learn about a few of them. The rest goes by unnoticed.

If I had medical bills I'd just leave some bitcoin as a reminder or a lucky charm. Since you were an early adopter you had a lot of them so selling 99% and leaving 1% wouldn't be a life and death thing for you and would probably change a lot in your life if you could have that additional 40 thousand dollars today.

If you weren't able to do it don't beat yourself over it. You were a part of it and met many new people thanks to it. You did not choose the best you could but also not the worst.

I really hope that you will recover from depression,if recovering from depression is possible.
I'm always in a bad mood and I have low energy and motivation to do stuff.I don't know is this depression or some other mental issue.Maybe I should seek help.
I can tell you that nostalgia is the most pointless feeling. The past is gone and we can't get it back.
The good old days will never come.Perhaps the future will be better than the past.

We shouldn't let ourselves stuck into the past but I do agree that those good old ways were really part of a very good journey of ours but doesn't mean that
you cant deal with it on the current day that we are into.

When we do talk about dealing with BTC then we can still do those things and when it comes to using and investing it then adoption is way more better compared
to those good old days.

Don't let yourself get depressed too much!

I am sorry to hear your story, OP.

Any chance you can be more active in the forum and making a few bucks as well? Like joining or managing signature campaigns or escrowing again. That way you would be thinking about bitcoin in the present instead of missing it and also earning some.
He can do much better then these signature campaigns stuff because bitpop is PHP developer and very good in past I check his post history but sadly right now physically and mentally he is not good enough to do things for himself its really sucks feeling sad for him and more we cannot do any thing for this great bitcoiner.

Well, whatever. It doesn't have to be signature campaings, whatever he can do that makes him become involved with the community again and also earn some bitcoin. The problem is if he is not in the mood but it sometimes helps to have your mind occupied with something you like.

I can relate to your situation as Bitcoin has been like a inseparable part of life for many and bitcoin has changed lives of many people like use, after reading your post I don't want to say it's never too late or you can restart again because a lot have changed and I belive you are talking about those days when Bitcoin was used as peer to peer transaction medium rather than sheer investment tool and those were days when we used to earn $1 for making 5 posts with bitmixer signature campaign, those were the days when we didn't had so many shitcoins and bitcoin was taboo to be discussed openly, it not easy to catch up but still try to pull up yourself from the depression and hold the latch of bitcoin once again.

Hope you recover one day. We all have regrets especially the ones who have been in the bitcoin community long enough.  I find myself in the same situation where I have just to sell what I have held for a long time. Its good that you are back though, starting all over again with your business is not too late. And its a perfect time as well. Remember that crypto industry is still in the very early stage. Good luck

You have already have done your part with the bitcoin community, don't worry about it. How unfortunate you are, you should have good earnings right now if you did not do that thing before because of the value of the bitcoin right now but it already happened and cannot turn it back, just don't mind it, maybe that thing is not good for you, there are still many opportunities that may happen to everyone especially on you.
Regretting those things will not really help you, I recommend to you that you need to use that as a lesson and make a new move next time and prevent that thing from happening again. That is one really confusing about bitcoin because you don't know when to sell or buy until you have seen already the result. It is true that there are still so many opportunities that you can grab, try studying trading, and learn how to buy and sell by learning the tools and indicators for trading.

You spent your bitcoins on your health. Can't this be a positive moment to raise your mood? It is always helpful to compare yourself to those who are worse off. There are people who have no money at all, and they also need medical care. How would you feel without bitcoins?
And today you have an excellent profession that allows you to work remotely. We can say that quarantine measures do not concern you. Start thinking positively, you have everything to start making money online again. Bitcoin is very popular today, that is, if you don't start buying it today, it will be even more expensive tomorrow.
You did a good job with your medical bills, now don't fold your arms, but with a lot of experience behind your back, just get up and move on.

It was really sad but I hope you don't regret selling those Bitcoins because you could still earn them back unlike someone's life. I mean that's one of the reasons why we keep earning aren't we? We earn because we prepare it for our future or emergency cases so you should not regret it. Besides, you already have prior knowledge regards these things so coming back won't be that difficult for you. It's never been too late to invest in Bitcoin after all so just grab all the opportunities ahead and you'll surely make an epic comeback. Anyway, I'm giving you all my support and I salute you mate.

"Alpaca Socks" YES! I was just looking through my overstock account and remembered how excited I was to be able to buy a vacuum cleaner (and other stuff) direct with bitcoin.
I spent and gave away quite a bit in 2014-2016: always with the assumption that I would have a couple for myself at any given time until I willed it after death (*but I don't)
I stopped mining in 2015 or 16: my house was maxed to what I felt safe loading it with and then I moved back across country. 2018 had me cash some out to keep my credit decent (so yes even now...worth it to have done that).

It sucks that you have health issues to the degree that it limits some of your opportunities but maybe on the other hand...it kept you in front of your computer long enough to get caught up in bitcoin?

I'm wishing you many good new days bitpop!

It ain't over yet, it's bitcoin its tricksey ;-)

It is kinda a sad sorry to hear about but there are really certain instances that you will be challenged on how tough you are going to hold into your finances like Bitcoin but it is just worthy expenses because you have make use it for a good sense. Well, memories brings back memories now that Bitcoin becomes more valuable compared to what it was before way back from the year it was established and first accessed by the pioneers here in the forum.

It has been a tough years for you mate that I hope you can still recover from where you are right now and it will never be too late to still get into Bitcoin. Just grab the opportunities you can see within and surely you can get back and will never miss the good old days for you will be making new good ones once you have fully recover.

It is some achievement, 10 years on this forum and still standing, yeah hope this forum will last forever, many forums come and go, many blogs come and go, I can’t remember how many emails I had lost count, how many old account credentials is inaccessible today, this is a permanently erasing our online existence and personality, virtual world isn’t as permanent as we once thought, what’s left is just memory. Most of the OG has to move on in real life, they have to leave for good, and they might be back with a different name on a different sites, who can tell they’re the same person once again? Btw I think that all the OG are the impressive person, they’re ahead of many people to understand how bitcoin work, I had to start to mining bitcoin by 2015-2016, because of lack of knowledges on know how, I’m not running a full mode too but some hideous miners, after a lot of troubles of getting mining to work properly finally get to know there is this website exist, and learn a lot more about bitcoin, yeah without this website I can’t even tell what exactly is bitcoin and how it’s origins, all the other website had totally misleading information on bitcoin, but I can’t blame all newbie not understanding bitcoin, they learn their knowledges from other misleading websites.

I miss the good old days. I had to sell my bitcoin over the years because of medical bills and I wish I had some, bitcoin was a big part of my life for a decade. I'm extremely depressed.

Ohh!!  Cry Cry what a shocking news from you. Really you missed your old good days. Basically it was expectations that BTC will hit again its previous record and will also brake. Now this is reality in front of us but you missed this time but i think life is first and you did proper work in your bad days by selling BTC. Don't be upset and move forward. Better days waiting for you.

thanks.

Everybody has to face situations when the time comes and you faced yours. You should consider yourself lucky that you had bitcoin which helped you when you needed it the most.
You sold bitcoin but also remember that it helped you a lot. With that spirit you can start from scratch again. It's not like everything is over.
You still have a lot of time because bitcoin has a long way to go. I am sure that you will definitely be able to do something to start accumulating bitcoins again.
It really doesn't matter how much you can start with but as time goes by, I assure you that you will be happy that you chose to start with bitcoin again.
Stay positive and don't think that it's all over yet.

I'm really upset to hear your story, and losing bitcoins for the cost of illness is really painful.
But it may change your life and open up new avenues for you.
Also, do not say goodbye to the world of bitcoin and hope to build a new life with the hope of the past.
And if you need support, I want to help you.
This is very good gesture from you for very old and unique person in bitcointalk forum history but sadly check his last post

These time's are really hard specially to a lot of people that are greatly affected by this pandemic. I do not know your whole story but visiting a therapist is one of the best thing that I can say instead of saying to just stay positive. There are still a lot of therapist you can contact through their websites or social media accounts.

You can still jump back in into the Cryptocurrency industry though because its still the same as before. Earning it would not be the same as before though but everything is a process that will be profitable.

A lot is on a state just like yours but I think they spend their money on different things and not on medical bills, but I think if not stock in the pretty $34,000 USD pretty much not riding the waves of Bitcoin just like you,

I really think you should have a positive mind and start all over from the top, don't stop in giving yourself another push below because the wave is currently turning back start from scratch if you don't have money in buying Bitcoin have a business or a job, there is no reason to quit now that the ATH is at $34,000 USD, we should be happy and proud what Bitcoin had reached.

I believed there is always an opportunity to invest in bitcoin and at the same time make a profit, you could always start over again in investing or you could even invest in yourself.

I also sell my bitcoin at a good price in the market, of course, I'm thinking of holding it for a long time but it might not be worth it since you need to wait for a long time to sell it at a good price.

Especially if it's for an emergency and you really need the money, at some point we do make the investment because of it.

Ouch! Your story in the OP is quite touching. I know how it feels to lose something because you want to keep afloat. Well, just remember that health is more important than anything else. Once we have life, we can have hope of regaining whatever lost. Have this as a consolation. Welcome back, veteran member of this community.

You miss the good old days? Just as I experienced, owning 12 bitcoins became a matter of pride for me in 2018 to 2019. I want to go back and set it aside for this year, but it's impossible. The result is we are a part of the past that saw bitcoin growing so fast and we can no longer hold it back. but I still feel happy that all my life I have owned bitcoin.

You have been here since 2011, of course, there are many twists, challenges, bitter and sweet that you have ever met and lived with, especially about Bitcoin.

Indeed sometimes we live in this world and work have saturation and retirement, however, sometimes it is also "knowledge" even though someone has retired in the world of crypto, especially Bitcoin, if there are still people who need someone's knowledge about Bitcoin it would be nice to continue it for everyone.

The past is indeed beautiful, however, where the name of the world is not eternal, there is birth and death, if you have the intention and continue to want to help about Bitcoin go on, nothing can't while there is a desire to help, keep going friends.

Hey. Bitcoin has a way of taking over I feel... And not just for speculators, probably more so for those vested in it like you. Always feel a little sad every time I run into someone who's contributed and yet feel like they're in a rut.

Take comfort in the fact that those whom you've helped are better today than where they were. There are still ways to help Bitcoin, most of what you said you did are still valid activities.

What kind of work do you do? You seem like you know your way around. I'll see if I can help find something.

I don't see a reason why you can't just start over?

I think you are in a much better situation than someone, like me, who has only recently started to actively participate in this space. You have an enviable experience and reputation - use it to your advantage.
Anyway, good luck in your future endeavors and don't give up!

to be precise here I really salute you, have contributed that long in bitcoin. You don't have to lament. Since your role will not be forgotten by bitcoin, there are probably many out there like you, with all their different experiences. biitcoin has grown, and you can no longer be with it. but that doesn't mean you can't watch it grow.
I wish you health and return to life with a higher spirit.

I get that, I had a couple of things in my life that broke me when they disappeared, but look at it this way, at least you are not me Smiley At least you were there early and did some actual good with it. I got into it only relatively recently and it's not like I did not know about it, I just did not have any vision and forward momentum to do anything about it. At this point, I am just barely holding on to the fast-moving bullet train that is crypto. I would like to get more technical with it, just for the sake of knowledge, but I am sure that if I got into it at an earlier stage, it would be much, much easier.

Don't get me wrong, I am not downplaying your sentimental thoughts. If anything, I think more n00bs like me should hear and read thoughts like this as they tend to convey a much warmer feeling towards crypto, and in this day and age, we are really lacking in that department. To me, looking back at it, from the outside, it really looked like a revolution, but now it just looks like a wasteland of vultures and dead dreams. So don't be sad, you still can help. You and others that were at the forefront in the early days should be here to keep pushing it in the right direction, to keep reminding people that this is not just some monetary quick fix, but indeed a cultural revolution. You still need to do your part more than ever.

Unfortunate. Hopefully whoever you've spent the medical bills on is totally fine now.

With that said, chin up. Do you think the current price of $31,000 is the price peak of bitcoin? If not and if you want to get your stack back(at least a percentage of it), go do something about it. Get a job, start a business, learn a new skill that you can use to monetize, etc. It's easier said than done for sure, but you ain't going to move forward by just being sad about it, only actually doing something about it will.

I wish you the best of luck moving forward.

Thanks they were my own. Working has always been sporadic for me because of my autoimmune disease.

It is a pity that your disease prevents your normal life, but in my opinion it is not the final verdict for you, at least in case you have a strong desire to earn something. Because somehow you have got Bitcoins in your past life. Away your depression. You are not the onliest in the world who spent or lost Bitcoins in previous years. But nowadays you may do something in order to get some profit in future again. There are lots of online jobs, and online courses to get some skills. The whole world because of the pandemic situation widely uses online jobs, online education and online life. Believe in yourself and get your Bitcoins again! Do not give up!

Many people regret selling before due to what we are seeing right now. The market value is now above $30k wherein no one expected it to be having such market price. But that's the point I think so there is no need to regret things. If we only knew that it's market value will be as big as it is now, who in the right mind will sell before? since no one have a valid basis that this day would come, it won't be surprising that many of us did sell our possessions of this technology on the early years of it. Same thing goes at this moment, no one has the assurance to tell that the market value will continue increasing on the following years and with that being said, the 'cycle' continues.

Nevertheless, you are one of those people who contribute to what Bitcoin has become now and I wanted to say to the people like you, Thank you guys you just don't know what you guys did. there are lots of people who change their lives with BTC and you guys the veterans who supported BTC from the start, are one of the main reasons why we reach up this stage. Now the price of BTC has recorded a never-before-seen event and it will continue because right now, there are lots of people who trust it and it will continue.

This just shows it not healthy to deploy to much of your time doing mostly only one thing, whether it be mining or gaming or something else.
It's important to have many hobbies and spread your interest over a wide area. otherwise you might be left with a gaping hole if the one thing you spend all your time on stops.

I also wondering what if I just continue to mine and work for bitcoins 3 years ago. I might have my 1st bitcoin today. Back then the bitcoin earnings in my life is definitely best and smooth. I have some fixed bitcoin earnings weekly here in forum and I able to experience the last all time high of bitcoin and in that time I badly need some money for emergency purposes. I didn't able to left some in my account and withdraw it all because of this emergency. Still, I am thankful that eventhough it is last 3 years yet I able to experience one of the best experience in cryptoworld or bitcoin era. This year I'm starting again to earn bitcoin yet I don't knoe ehat tomorrow will brings me but I feel 2021 will be a good year for me and for the whole bitcoin community.
