Here is a guide for you from one of the most active Merit sources https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/tmans-guide-to-getting-merit-3182178 , see what he counts as merit deserved posts and learn from others like he is. You are right that merit is 100% subjective things, but I see that interesting threads get merit easily indeed, look at the latest one that I found https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/legendary-profiles-of-bitcointalk-3247239 it is really unique and posts like yours, I mean complain on merit system, do not awake any interest at all.

Before you post, there are other similar posts posted, merit is only for those who know how to explore and learn rather than complain

Unfortunately your not the first one who suggested this kind of suggestions and all of your suggestions will just cause another spam if you are really reading here you must know that this topic already made many time's by other users like you who just complain about the system.

You want a direct step to get merits? I will tell you this "DIRECTLY"

Hello my fellow forum members,
I am a Newbie in this forum although I have been visiting for a longer period, I only registered recently.

Merit seems to be a big deal here and from the topics I've read about getting merit, I made the following observation:
1. Merit was introduced to combat spammers.
2. Not every member of this forum can give merit.
3. Those that can give merit have limited numbers of merit to give out.
4. To get merit,  A member who can give out merit have to view your post and also like it otherwise no merit for you.

Conclusion:
1. The process of getting merit is very subjective.
2. Due to the reason above, It is opened for abuse and those have merit can give it out to whoever.
3. Since merit is vital to membership ranking, the merit system does not befit a Science/technology inclined forum that Bitcointalk.org is.

Recommendation:
1. A clearly defined process should be put in place for a member of this forum to get merit.
2. If that is not possible to do, Anyone from the rank of a Junior member should have a monthly allocation of merit.
3. Time spent on this forum should qualify a member for merit points.

This is my submission, I hope to get a fair response.

Thanks.
