I think, there are many altcoins that can be used for long-term investments, such as ethereum, Dash, Stratis, and Waves. All of these coins have very strong potential to grow and have proven them on the market today. We must support it, because our support will make the coin grow.
If you want to play with long term altcoin, I suggest to choose the obvious altcoin. It's been clearly has a future, and it is also clear that the altcoin were able to survive. For example, namely the ethereum and Dash. The second altcoin is suitable for long term investment.

I think the best altcoin to hold in a long term investment is etheruem, these coin prove that they can grown fast easily like other coins. These coins is the one of the three best coin at the crypto currency market.
For a long term hold, it is always good to choose the large cap coins on the market especially the first 10 coins. These are the coins which have gained much roots on the market and can be hold for years. They have shown the capabilities of rising on the market for some years to come.

If I were you if you want to earn more profits by investing it a good altcoins and you want to hold it long-termly I would suggest that you start investing to those altcoins which on the top rank such as ethereum, ripple, NEO, EOS, litecoin and bitcoincash that has a very high potential to give you more profit and earning. ETH with other relatively low transaction costs is the right choice. Your money will increase by the end of 2018. But you must be patient and calm. Because these coins are the most suitable for your long-term investment and secure your financial budget.

I won't advice you to listen to any recommendations of any altcoin. Its best to go and research the altcoins you wish to invest and after research, decide wether you wish to invest into it or not
