I'm gonna go with at least 500. Even though that is a pittance compared to what some other have.

To be fair, the etymology of "whale" in the crypto-currency realm derives from the term "whale" in gambling. A "whale" amongst gamblers is a person who is a high roller and is able to wager or put in large amounts of money.

Given that past etymology, it actually feels kind of "natural" for people with large pools of money to "gamble" on a crypto-currency to be considered whales. In fact, a lot of this transfer in terminology came from this exact reasoning.

No, much too cute.
VULTURE would be the right animal, but I already have that reserved for a different kind of human breed.

Vultures feed on prey of others, whales are somewhat opposite

But I just can't associate those majestic animals with such poor minded folk.

Wouldn't it sound much more appropriate to call them "SHARKS", or "RATS", or "HYENAS"?
Thats at least the kind of animal which comes to MY mind.

Please stop calling them "WHALES", its an insulting term for the matter.

I dunno, sharks, rats and hyenas don't seem to fit in with the definition of a whale
(by example look at http://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/1rrtbv/what_is_a_bitcoin_whale/).

Can we go with "WALRUS" - not so majestic as a whale - but also covered in loads of fat  Grin
