Yes, the client does this normally. The client keeps all your receiving addresses, and you can have as many as you like.
There is no built-in system for determining where coins came from. The idea is that you generate a new receiving address for each transaction so that you can tell which coins are payment for which transaction. You keep track of who's paying you for what by which address you gave them.

It is normal

Using a new address every time makes you harder to track, and it makes it easier for you to track where the bitcoins came from.

You do not lose the old address unless you lose your wallet.dat file that stores the private key for that address. Click on the address book in the bitcoin software then click on the receiving tab to see all of you previous addresses.

Hi

I just received a Bitcoin. But I see that I have a new Bitcoin address.
  • Is this normal.
  • What are the advantages of getting new one every time you do a transaction.
  • Can I have a static Bitcoin address?

Thank you..
