Great story Op, but you should also be careful and not let frustration always lead you into revealing to everyone stranger you come across that you have bitcoins in your possession, for safety reasons so you don't get mugged.
I mean, because you have Bitcoin doesn't mean you're a millionaire or even wealthy, therefore everyone assumes you have cash on you, so telling them you have Bitcoin instead isn't exactly much more threat. You could argue less so, since cash can be physically stolen, but your Bitcoin should be locked up, to at least provide some other sort of resistance.

While, you probably shouldn't go flaunting around how much you own, and how wealthy you're, simply saying you have Bitcoin isn't a problem at all.

this is very true , because with us closing ourselves or lowering the possibility of evil will stay away from us , on the other hand if we talk big and calm our wealth there will be many people who will do negative to us .

It's really good to know that people are open to accept bitcoin and it could help them in problems when other banking mode are not helping them to make the payments or withdraw the cash. You send btc to other person address and Transaction is confirmed after few minutes that's it no other issue. But in your case you were lucky that other person know about it and also happily accepted it as payment source.Good encounter with btc for @OP.

Bank network issues is very common in developing countries, cases of ATMs debited account without dispensing cash is a usual occurrence consequently causes a lot of disappointment between a buyer of goods and services and the sellers, bitcoin payment solved the problem encountered by the OP and saved the situation how I wish that bitcoin adoption is like 90% globally the total reliance on fiat would have reduced drastically however, I think we will get there someday in the nearest future going by the gradual adoption of the coin although many government in some countries are hindering it adoption because of restrictions.

the guy brought he's phone, I scanned the wallet and made my payment of ( $40 ) swiftly  to him instead of ( $37 ) in order to encourage

him in case of such senario in future with other people.

Goodnight, o_e_l_e_o 🌹
Reading lovely stories like this makes me realize how Bitcoin could save us from unexpected situations. I've also experienced when my card got debited and there were no fiat resources near my area but Bitcoin saved me and I was able to buy important stuff in a grocery store that accepts Bitcoin in our country. If more establishments and businesses would accept Bitcoin, we'll never have trouble transacting. I hope everyone could see the convenience that Bitcoin can provide.
I have read similar stories about Bitcoin and they are lovely. One common and notable thing about the stories is that, the option of bitcoin always come when the fiat options are exhausted. I read where a man paid the a doctor for his wife's delivery, and he was able to do so when the options of using fiat exhausted at about 02:00am.
Now, Op's situation came when the options for transfer and using the fiat ATM couldn't help. It could mean that bitcoin is serving its function as an alternative currency.

This is a lovely story! Banks can be a pain, especially if you're traveling and they suddenly decide it's probably not you but someone else trying to use your card to pay. I've had issues with that myself several times. It's great that the guy accepted a payment in BTC. While the sum he got would by now be reduced, it's not that big of a deal with a small payment like $40. I also didn't get the 75% exposure, though. My assumption was you meant 75% of your assets (savings, investments) are in BTC.

True banks would probably make you sick especially when you go about your movement hoping to make payments with your card or bank transfer but you got frustrated with a bad network issues, your going to me mad cause you won't know what to do next. A lot of people have come out to testify how they got lucky with the help of bictoin in difficult situations like this and that is the more reason why we all need to inform the world out large the usefulness of adopting bitcoin in our countries and accepting it as a meattns of making payments.

Oh wow. I really love reading stories like this. Last time, a man shared about paying the birth fee to the doctor with Bitcoin. And now this one. In OP’s case, it was truly fortunate that they are accepting Bitcoin by any means necessary. We can’t just simply focus on the price alone despite the bear market that we are in today, but it’s all about embracing Bitcoin as an alternative payment.

2 weeks ago I was in Brussels and wanted to buy some belgian fries, but the counter only accepted cash and I had none. My card that uses euros had no balance and my n26 account wanted to charge me 10e to issue a physical card (so can't withdraw from there).

My solution was using the bitcoin atm I found next door. Sent some btc -> withdrew euros -> got my fries Smiley

Ohh Yes, Good addition, Bitcoin made it easy at some point and we need to be grateful for that.
I've seen a tweet also where a Bitcoiner tripled the amount of Bitcoin he initially wanted to pay. All because he's Barber accepted Bitcoin as a means of payment's and transactions. Using BTCmakes things go swiftly. Although at some ends, they still can't do without the local fiat. Great to hear you utilizing Bitcoin OP.

Some unexpected circumstances will really exhaust all your possible means of payment method that you know of. Just like what I read from one of the threads here where the man paid the doctor with bitcoin who gave birth to his baby. Because he ran out of options as the ATM was bit far from the hospital and had no cash. And he saw the doctor wearing BTC-shirt and asked if he's accepting BTC. So in this scenario, it is showing that you'll never know when you will have a situation that having crypto funds will be your savior. We don't know if the stories are true, but if they are, lucky for them that they have crypto ready to spend in case the situation needs it.

A good experience when we don't have a problematic cash or ATM, then Bitcoin is the right solution, Bitcoin transactions are very fast, and now the transaction fee is also very cheap if we use private wallet which is no more than $ 3, maybe compared to ATMs are still more expensive but When we don't have an option then it is the best choice.

Strange story, nonetheless you are singing the praises of bitcoin in a bitcoin forum, so you are welcome Grin
If the story is true then it is good for you so you could get to your presentation early, in the grand scheme of things it does not mean much, the driver will probably not accept payment in btc again, and taxi drivers generally are not going to start accepting bitcoin instead of fiat.
The story that Op narrated could be true besides this is not the first time someone had experienced things like that, do you know that recently I was almost embarrassed in my region because I couldn't pay for PMS that I bought due to network issues?  Some one had to sort the bills for me but I was able to convince the manager of the company to initiate the use of Bitcoin for payment he said they will consider it if it will increase their company sales. You gat to tell them about Bitcoin and it importance if they find it useful they will start accepting it.

Anyways for now  it is the duty of bitcoin users  to always create awareness to people because many people are ignorant of Bitcoin.

I like the idea of having a btc ride, you can have a printed btc logo on the car which will even make it more attractive and spread the word of BTC

Cool story dude, maybe it was a wake up call for you and the driver to connect thru BTCSmiley

Probably one instance wherein bitcoin can really be used as what we wanted, as a currency. Sure the driver didn't wait for the 1st confirmation and maybe is well aware that you can't double spend it. Why not? maybe you can find another driver that is willing to accept bitcoin as payment?

How are you "75% exposed to Bitcoin"? That doesn't really make sense to me. You either heard of it or not from my point of view.

If I heard it, that Doesn't mean I can't apply it myself If I found it useful and I'm okay with it , we research , learn  to help our daily lives.

This thread has also lead me to wonder that if banks have network problems which prevent their customers from paying bills, then why are most of their users so hostile to Bitcoin.

Let me put you in the know if you aren't aware, there are some days here when you go to the bank and no transaction is working at all almost through out the day.
A lot of people here wants to embrace Bitcoin but the policies and restrictions from the apex bank has been a challenge.

Well at least you were able to pay him with bitcoin. Why no carry fiat cash with you? Even though I use my card most of the time, but I always carry some hard cash with me. You never know when you will need it. Did he wait for any network confirmation or did was happy to accept with 0 network confirmation?
‌therefore, After this several attempts I had no option than to use the nearest ATM, when I slotted my card I eventually got my account

debited without getting paid all was as result of my bank having network issues, I was really fustrated at the moment and I said

‌"this is why I like Bitcoin" , the guy replied and said are you a "Bitcioner" ?
-snip-
You wouldn't say the same thing if the bitcoin network was congested. The slow network confirmation time along with absurd fee would have put you off. Imagine paying $20 in fee for a $40 ride.

In some regions most people think if one has some bitcoin the person is buoyant or on money not knowing the amount of bitcoin in the wallet if it is small or not, they just have the mindset that to have Bitcoin is to become rich. That is why one would think if he or she should  invest in bitcoin they will be rich. I'm saying these based on experience and the kind of people am surrounded too.

Nah, it's normal. Just be happy that OP experienced one of the many uses of Bitcoin and look at how it is innovated, especially in random times and places they managed to use Bitcoin.
This scenario right now is more likely a small chance to happen, because we are still in the early days of Bitcoin.

P.S. This thread has also lead me to wonder that if banks have network problems which prevent their customers from paying bills, then why are most of their users so hostile to Bitcoin. At least if you make a transaction on BTC's blockchain, it's not going to be half-processed due to "network error" (especially now that the major miner exodus has long ended).

How about if you had hard cash? Then things would have been a lot smoother and quicker? What if either of you were on a low battery and could not transact with Bitcoin? Or what if you were in a specific spot where there is no signal? Or have left your phone?

Of course, it was a good thing that you both are into Bitcoin but I guess with the way things are, hard cash is always a good option especially if you are on a public transportation. I think cash is still the king today. You've got to have some at all times.

That's right. Not everyone who owns bitcoin is a millionaire. I don't see anything as worrisome as OP's case for letting others know he uses bitcoin, if OP hadn't said he was a bitcoin user he probably would have been in trouble that day because he wasn't either have cash.
As long as you don't reveal how much bitcoin you hold and show off your assets, there should be no problem here. We are bitcoin users, so we should promote others in one way or another.

Since you already mentioned that you agreed to pay for the transaction via a mobile transaction, that can easily be traced if he develops an ill intention to threaten and force you into sending all your money, but a forced transaction to a wallet address, you know how very close to impossible it is to track such. So always exercise caution and don't be too quick to indicate to someone that you use bitcoins especially if it is a one time transaction.

This story sounds so regular to many of us both with our individual experience in situations where Bitcoin becomes the only option and taking advantage of the many possibilities that the Bitcoin/cryptocurrency has to offer, I had so many encounters with people who the end become strong Bitcoin users who our parts just crossed each other. Bitcoin is gaining mainstream adoption and even the most uncivilized are getting to know Bitcoin as long as they can have access to smart devices payments can be made and received that is how unique cryptocurrency is as an alternative currency.

‌I'm so happy today and Just decided to share this senario about  how I made my first ride payment in Bitcoin.

‌Here is the story,

I took a ride for very long distance journey for a presentation and we both agreed a price which cost me about ( $37 ) in my local fiat

currency,  and we both agreed on making a transfer to him on getting to the destination , When we got to the end of the journey,

then I requested his details for the transfer but I got a failed transaction, I tried the second

transaction and had same issue, I was actually running out of time regards to the presentation because our car got over heated

sometime along the road and we took some minutes to cool down the car.

I  said Yes,  I'm 75% exposed to Bitcoin and he said wow!, therefore you don't have an issue,  I will accept your payment in #BTC

the guy brought he's phone, I scanned the wallet and made my payment of ( $40 ) swiftly  to him instead of ( $37 ) in order to encourage

him in case of such senario in future with other people.

These was how I had my first ride payment made in Bitcoin.

With this experience I'm working on getting a ride that will accept Bitcoin in my area
