your fund is retrievable but require manual intervention by personnel with high level access to the system
that's why the poloniex support can't guarantee the return of your coins

keep monitoring that address...
if you see that fund being moved that means poloniex has recovered it successfully
if your balance isn't credited after it was moved then you should contact support about it

There's no way they can prevent it happening in the first place. And making the person who sent it whole again is a manual and drawn out process. They have to dig around, find keys, import them and send it out elsewhere. That ties up a real person for a reasonable length of time no matter what.

At least it didn't happen when things were bullish. You might have had to wait months, if they ever got around to it at all.

Nice good to know polo offer such service though they said they can't guarantee. Its not compulsory but if you read between the lines, I guess you can offer how much you will pay for the recovery. As for me, I'd probably offer good amount for it after all the BTC won't be going back on its own without the support.

If i recall correctly, Bittrex Cross Chain recovery policy was that they'd only recover amounts higher than 5000$.. So.. I guess you could count yourself lucky that/if Poloniex is willing to try and recover your funds.

Although it was your own fault, i'm still surprised that exchanges haven't been trying to fix this issue, or ensure faster recovery of funds.

Perhaps it's a nice bonus for them? Polo has a volume of 2000BTC, let's consider a 0.1% fee, which leaves them with 2BTC a day in profit.. Hmm. 0.79BTC would be almost 50% of their daily profits.

Not trying to start any conspiracies as i know the security issues involved.. Just some food for thought.

Yes.

But since BCHSV uses the same address format as BTC, such an address is valid on the BCHSV and BTC network (and on other shitty forks of BTC as well).

Until exchanges are able to read the mind of their customer, there is no way to determine where the customer wanted to send the coins to.
If you are clicking on withdraw BTC and enter a valid BTC address, the system assumes you want to transfer BTC.. Just because on the other side, a different client is waiting for a different transaction to the same address, nothing is wrong on the sender side.

As far as I know, the problem is that the kind of address is the same. so it isn't stopped or bounced back. if you tried to send BTC to a 0x address it would be stopped instead.

Well, this fully depends on the exchange.

I, personally, would say yes. Enough to attempt a recovery.

But in the end, the exchange (and mostly their security policy) decides what is going to happen.
I guess if they wouldn't recover your coins, they probably would have told you this already.
IMO you should get your coins back (minus a fee for recovery).

No.

The process to 'recover' your BTC is to import the BCHSV private key associated with the address into a BTC client.
That's all you need to do to access them again.

However, since you do not own the private key (poloniex does), they are the only one being able to recover them.
It is completely up to them if (and for what fee) they recover your coins.

Exchanges often help their customer if the amount is high enough.
But it also would be completely understandable if they refuse to recover them, since this includes quite some risk on their site combined with additional work.
It all depends on their security model. Only a few people there have access to the private keys. Messing around with the private keys because of people not being able to read / choose the correct address and ignoring all warnings might or might not comply with their policy.

But regarding to their answer, they are trying to help you.
Technically, it is definitely possible.

I heard of some dude on the internet sending ETH to the ETC address, around 100 ETH, and the fee for restoring the funds was 150 dollars, always with polo. it would be more than ok for me.

is it safe to post the txid here? the amount is 0.722+ btc, I think it's a reasonable sum to try to retrieve.

it's in the green block and unspent. hope they'll help.

but my gut feeling is very negative. anyway I bought some little more btc today, I am still in the game.

Well, the best thing you can do right now is to wait for Poloniex. I wouldn't get my hopes up though, usually, such a process can definitely be a huge hassle for Poloniex; hence they only try to recover coins that was sent by mistake only if the amount is big enough, and as far as I know, I think they're going to ask for a fee for their troubles. So.. yea. Just give them the required info, then wait.

Hello, It's my first post, excuse me if it's the wrong section.

I have a life threatening problem and it's my fault.

on the 28th on april I sent around 0.7 BTC from my binance account, to a BCHSV address starting with the letter 1 , on poloniex.
currently the balance of circa 0.7 BTC shows on the blockexpolorer correctly, the box in green and it's unspent.

0.7 btc was all I had, it was everything for me.
again, I sent BTC to a BCHSV address. is it lost?

I contacted binance support and they told me they cannot do anything.

I contacted poloniex (the receiving address) and they said they will attempt to recover my funds and send it to the correct receiving address.

Poloniex support responded in 3 hours, and told me that it's risky, costly and time consuming, and they don't usually try to help with this situations, that there is no assuration I'll ever have my coins back
but that they will attempt to refund me in 4+ weeks.

here is what they told me

Poloniex generally does not offer a token/coin recovery service because the process to recover tokens is extremely complicated and may result in significant cost, time, and risk. Your correct Poloniex deposit address
