I bought a Toshiba laptop in 2013 for $350 which was a good price.

Hint: HP laptops suck.

Yeah, Toshiba laptops are great for the price. I bought one at 600$ two years ago, and I can still play recent games with decent quality on it.

I've had a Toshiba, an HP, and an Asus. As someone stated above, HP's are junk. (my sis and brother-in-law both work for HP but it doesn't change my opinion, their laptops are shit) Asus are pretty good but expensive, Toshiba.. meh. It worked, the one I had ran pretty hot. All mine were bought used, new laptops are stupidly overpriced and become tomorrow's cheap tech almost as soon as the check clears.

Thanks for starting this thread.. think I'll go with Lenovo next. That G50 looks pretty good.

I'm writing this on a 9 year old used thinkpad. I bought it used for $75 and installed Ubuntu on it. This thing lasts and lasts!

I've also got around a 7 year old Thinkpad which hasn't had any problems picked it up for around $100 I believe. Installed Slackware on it specifically and I use it quite regular.

Lenovo G50 has good build quality, is thin, and has good bang for your buck. Should fit within your budget.

Buy a used thinkpad and install Ubuntu. I do this about every 5 years and it costs about $100. The thinkpad I'm using right now I bought 6 years ago for $75. New laptops are stupid expensive.

You won't be able to play high end games but it's good to use in every other ways. 😊

Should be able to play most games released this year not on high though

I thought it was pretty good except maybe the ram is letting it down not a main priority running games but it would be nice to play some games now and again.

Here's one I've been looking at:

Quote
Brand   Lenovo

Product Dimensions   51.4 x 32 x 6.6 cm
Model Number   59425298
Color   black
Form Factor   Portable
Screen Size   15.6 inches
Processor Brand   Intel
Processor Type   Core i3
Processor Speed   1700 MHz

Seems this would be more than enough for daily programming & browsing but I could also play a few decent games at low graphics. What do you guys think of this laptop any recommendations? it's on sale at the moment too. (EUR 399.00)

You should be able to run about every game released in 2014 at 720p resolution. thats a pretty good offer where is this on sale too?

It's for uni no massive programs will be used but I'll be looking to do a little coding & then casual browising and downloading different things. I was considering a chromebook because they are dirt cheap but I would rather have the capabilities of a normal computer.
