Payment Gateway Allows Recurring Payments
It's funny because at least I'm not alone in our place anymore, and I also told my neighbor that if he wants to ask a question, He can ask me anytime.
At last, you are a senior member of this platform (just kidding). You really make a good move here by motivating him because in a place where crypto is not adopted that much and if one is trying to break that tradition by moving a little forward to digitalization, neighbors and people in the town will definitely not support this. And yet you do know the potential of crypto and have great knowledge so i really liked, how you motivated him. Good work.

Plus, you should ask him to join this platform where he could grow more and can earn extra money too while sitting in the shop in his spare time. I hope you like this idea because helping others will help you in the future. Plus you will get a partner in crypto and you will not be alone anymore. I sometimes, give a thought of giving ideas to my relatives who are involved in trading (not digital goods) like in real-world trading via shops and other ways. That you should prefer crypto as a source on payment. But i always hesitate to tell them because i know, no one will prefer this way, even my relatives won't because they are tightly bound to banks and traditional ways of finance so i doubt they will shift to this method any time soon.

Maybe, if a BTC ATM is implemented in our country then it might be considered as a payment. Well, it all depends on the actions that government takes against crypto. if that is in support of it then i hope my relatives will prefer it otherwise not.

Honestly, I was his first customer who paid with Bitcoin because I bought a load on my mobile device there is a load services in the app's wallet that He used because I wanted to experience and make him feel something like that. And the app he uses is the Pouch wallet. This is also one of the recommended ones that his cousin taught that can be used in his business and the gcash app wallet when he wants to buy Bitcoin on the Binance platform.

Pouch wallet? as far as I know there are many merchants of this apps wallet which is more than 400+. It's funny that your neighbor, even though he doesn't fully understand Bitcoin yet, he just found out how it can be used in his business, and the Pouch is rightly suitable for the various stores he has, because of my knowledge as well Pouch fees are also small.

From what I can see, he didn't doubt Bitcoin so he immediately adopted it in his mind, as if it was enough for him to teach him how to use it in Pouch, gcash and how to buy Bitcoin on Binance which at the same time is In short, he also has a Binance account. I admire your neighbor.

I just want to share something here, because I have a neighbor here who has a small store called Sari-Sari store, whose goods are, can goods, coconut, wine, candies, soft drinks, soy sauce, and so on. I was just surprised when I was going to buy from his store, there was a poster that said "We accept Bitcoin" as payment, I smiled at this neighbor of mine.

It's a good news that more and more local shops are accepting Bitcoin everyday, I hope your neighbor gets lots of customers so her competitors join her in accepting Bitcoin and the network grows in your neighborhood. I hope Bitcoin isn't ban by your government so you don't get disturbed by the authorities for breaking the laws of your country. Let her not fail to pay her tax so she doesn't get charged.

If this continues maybe the bigger shows like shopping malls and supermarket in your neighborhood can start accepting Bitcoin too and this will drive up adoptions in your neighbors to spreads to other parts of the country as the news keep spreading around.

So did you pay for any items with bitcoin yourself?  I appreciate you sharing this story with us.  I'm curious as to how his cousin "earns a living with bitcoin" and how that made your neighbor want to get involved with bitcoin and start accepting it at his store.  Hopefully he's got a realistic idea of how it all actually works.

I say bravo to him though.  It's important that people use bitcoin as a means of payment in my opinion.  This is how bitcoin adoption will grow, or one way anyhow.

Of course, because I was surprised and happy, I forgot to take a picture of his store and the pouch wallet he was using. His cousin only taught him the basics, because I also told him that it's not easy to understand Bitcoin, it takes time, but he just found out how to connect Bitcoin to his sari-sari store. Which is also okay actually. Maybe when I get home, I'll go back to him again to take a picture because I'm in the province right now.

Then when I saw that he was Bitcoin accepted from his store, you can't see a barcode, because he just wrote Bitcoin accepted on a piece of bond paper, I smiled at that, as if he was also excited and I also felt that my neighbor really doesn't know anything about in bitcoin, except that his cousin taught him how to make a transaction when someone paid him bitcoin using the pouch wallet.

His answer to me was me, I laughed even more and was happy with his answer. Because apart from me, even his children, when buying their goods, he will also teach them to pay with Bitcoin. You're doing a good job, teaching your children and awareness about Bitcoin, keep doing it and I'll support you in that matter.

And his answer to me is that his cousin is doing bitcoin trade and he mentioned to him that bitcoin is his cousin's primary source of income, and he also advised him that bitcoin can be used as an option for payment for his goods. , and also taught him how to do it.

It's funny because at least I'm not alone in our place anymore, and I also told my neighbor that if he wants to ask a question, He can ask me anytime.

This is a positive development for bitcoin, and before you know it, your neighborhood will have more bitcoin users. Almost every region of the world is aware of bitcoin, despite the fact that it has not yet gained widespread acceptance, and we occasionally witness people using it, so it is not news anymore. I hope that your neighbor thoroughly knows bitcoin before opting to accept it as payment. Anyone who wants to adopt bitcoin needs to grasp how it functions effectively. As the sole bitcoiner in the area, it is now your duty to take him along and thoroughly explain everything if he doesn't already know it. He should be educated on the risks involved, how to use wallets and secure them properly, how to protect oneself from theft and the possibility of losing his belongings, as well as all other necessary fundamental knowledge.

Here and there we'll be able to see cryptocurrency users through some means. Apart, most of the users hide themselves. This is all because of the legality issues around the world. I've come across information from Nigeria, the government haven't announced anything about the legality and people on their own risk continue to use cryptocurrency into different businesses. Even in a petrol station a person working on it have introduced bitcoin payment. Hope the change takes place and lets be part of it by spending on such stores.

The only thing that bothers me with physical store who accepts Bitcoin is fee for every transaction. I have e-wallet if they have alternative method to pay something where the fee is significantly lower than Bitcoin and it's faster. Unlike Bitcoin which is probably longer and more expensive in terms of fee, although in one side I think let's see and treat as another way to pay stuff if I don't have money in my e-wallet.

Aside of that, more adoption of Bitcoin is great and being able to pay more stuff with Bitcoin is always welcome especially to bring more people into Bitcoin.

No wonder Bitcoin has become popular with people day by day. Because of this, your neighbor might want to trade with Bitcoin. But I applaud him for taking such an initiative. Although we have not yet started using Bitcoin in any of our stores here, there is a love for it.  Doing business through Bitcoin will bring a lot of success. If we are aware about bitcoin and know how to use it well then we can also inform our children about bitcoin. It should be used with awareness.

This sounds really interesting, and good luck to your neighbor, I am also looking forward to the day when businesses in my area here can declare officially that they are now accepting bitcoin, I would never would have to convert my bitcoin to fiat and withdraw before I spend it anymore, directly with my bitcoin in my wallet, I can buy what ever I want and make payment directly through my bitcoin wallet..
This alone can drive and aid in bitcoin adoption, but the only thing that is going to be a big challenge is the transaction fee, even at $2 per transaction, that is still very expensive when compared to what items been bought and paid for in bitcoin is worth, if for example, total items are all together worth below $50, paying $2 in fees for transaction confirmation is rather too expensive to be honest.

Any well-being and disciplined entrepreneur will do anything to make payment easy for his customers because when you rely on a single mode of payment, you will lose customers sometimes because they can have technical problems sometimes, it is always best when you provide customers with different choices of payment, it will even give them this confidence of having a successful deal with you as a seller. I think the last time I Learned Master Card block p$^nhub from using their platform to receive payment and ever since then, they have added different types of crypto payment for viewers who wish to go premium, it's part of the development we all want with Bitcoin.

Loyalty to bitcoin manifests everywhere for some of the people who are participating, sometimes we are too concerned with the problem of outside look and judgment that we do not want to express our thoughts from ourselves.
I found the OP's neighbor from the story quite honest, although this is only a small act, it shows that there are still some even more people who are optimistic about the future of BTC, personally I fully support these things appear more in life.

A great way to start a conversation about how he is able to mitigate the effects of the volatility, the type of wallet he uses. Does he have a separate wallet for his business? How is he able to do his PnL analysis?

You would be shocked by how many people own bitcoin in your neighbourhood that you didn't know about if you do a survey. If you work in the investment and financial sector, these guys already know the potential that bitcoin has. They buy some satoshis, hold and keep quiet living their lives. They do not tweet or write anything about bitcoin online. They are like bitcoin's secret disciple.

Individually most people accept it as a payment mode at least those who know how precious Bitcoin is. These days digital payment is preferred everywhere from small Shops to big restaurants most people don't carry cash, So there is nothing weird if anyone is accepting BTC as a digital payment mode. Even sometimes I did some casual payments for buying products in BTC and when I did the first time I was also shocked because I was selling BTC P2P for making payment he said Bro why are you selling to someone else I can take it as well make a direct transfer to me.

After that day I decided whether then converting my Bitcoins to Fiat and why not to ask the person to accept BTC first at least if He doesn't know he will spend some time in curiosity and try to figure out what I was talking about. Then maybe when he'll search about and educate himself, with that act maybe the community will get another Bitcoiner

Nice to hear that his neighbor uses bitcoins and also accepts bitcoin payments in his shop, it looks like your neighbor is about to become a bitcoin family because besides his children his cousin also uses it even for his main source of income.
actually without us knowing it many people around us use it for their own interests and I also experienced it because besides me around me there are also many who use bitcoin. And this is proof that bitcoin will continue to grow and continue to be popular because of the many good benefits for those who use it, and what surprised me the most is that bitcoin can be used as an alternative for unexpected payments like my experience here. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--5401052

Nice story, but, assuming it's true, it doesn't seem to me the best time to accept Bitcoin payments in a physical store, being the fees to get a transaction confirmed in the next block around $2. If I'm going to buy $10 worth of items in the store why should I have to wait ten minutes on average and pay a 20% fee if paying with cash I don't pay fees and I don't have to wait.

Using LN would make more sense, but you would have to open a channel with each customer, so neither.

If two bitcoiners are coming together then this is least of their worries. We can always start to explore various options that pre exists. This includes paper wallet and they can be carried with us and handed over to the shop keeper or wherever the business is happening.

I mean since he is neighbour or live nearby they can always trust each other with the paper wallet. They could print some bitcoin money in the form of paper wallet; visit the store and hand over the equivalent amount of bitcoin. I’m sure there needs improvisation of the system but it’s nothing like we have no options at all and keep crying about it all the time about fees. That’s also temporary by the way.

It's obvious that a lot of people really want to adopt Bitcoin as a payment method, which I find to be a very active way of communicating Bitcoin to the people living around you. Since I started accepting Bitcoin in my business, I think I have even lost count of how many people have really inquired about Bitcoin knowledge from me. Some of my customers are really interested in knowing what Bitcoin really is, and although I have given many of them time to explain, I have also referred some to the forum. I have also given them a lot of materials to watch and read, and I have also given them the opportunity to relate to me any time they have questions.

Well, I like the fact that you told your neighbor to call and ask you anything any time he wants, because often times if he is persistent in accepting Bitcoin, as long as he always has that display of "we now accept Bitcoin" in his shop, he should also get ready to entertain a lot of questions about Bitcoin from some customers that have zero knowledge about Bitcoin. Best of luck to him.

Does anyone willing to pay bitcoin? even if the fee is even more than the amount of your purchases from that store? I mean I know a "Sari-sari" store, usually customers doesn't spend that much barely a dollar every single purchase, compared to how much you are gonna pay in the supermarket/grocery stores. I'd be surprise if someone actually did that, not even you have done that right? because the fees might even more than the amount of your purchase. Nevertheless, that's a good initiative on trying to accumulate bitcoin from the  customers who purchase goods rather than accumulating them using your fiat as there will be a fee when you buy bitcoin on your own.
It would also be better if you got a picture from that store showing the signage about accepting bitcoin payments and post it together in the OP.

If the store wants customers to make purchases and pay with bitcoin, then they must take care of the commission issue. Otherwise, competitors who are nearby and accept payment in fiat, without any commissions, will very quickly lure all buyers. In this situation, paying with bitcoin, especially if these are small purchases, is not profitable, primarily because of high commissions.

It's very good that the government in your area doesn't prohibit its citizens from accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment, because in my country even if you only trade crypto you will be fined, especially if you accept bitcoin as payment, you will definitely be punished and your business will be closed. Hopefully in your area Bitcoin will be more widely used, because we know that with the increasing adoption of Bitcoin in one community it can bring good changes and improve the economy of the community.

Finally, someone sees the way I see using Bitcoin as means of payment, it doesn't make sense to buy something you can eat using 1$ or more as transaction fee, how much is the thing you trying to pay for? It's not just worth it.

There are several of us who have raised this point in the thread but so far the OP has not come back here to clarify it. Let's hope that this does not become a spam mega thread in which the OP opens a thread and does not deign to come back here.

Does anyone willing to pay bitcoin?

That's the central question of the thread, and as skeptical as I am it makes me think it's BS, a made up story like the many you see around here to meet the weekly quota, as well as trying to fish for some merit.

now that bitcoin is increasingly recognized by many people, it is not surprising that there are people who are starting to want to experience bitcoin transactions by making payments using btc like your neighbors who have shops that can pay using bitcoins.

but if my hear your story, it seems that the owner of the shop is still a beginner in bitcoin, if he asks you for help, I think you should be able to explain to him about bitcoin or the risks of investing in btc.

The term "Sari-sari Store" is proof that we are from the same country (PH). Correct me if there are some other countries who are using this term though.
This move of him is good, but it has a bad side as well.

The good thing is that, he's helping towards the adoption of Bitcoin in one way or another... and I guess that's only the good thing of it.

Now the bad side. Since we are talking about sari-sari store, prices of goods that are being sold in that kind of store is small, and if you will add the transaction fees the buyer has to add, overtime it might be a burden for him. Unless the buyer will buy in bulks, then the fees will not be felt at all. Another thing is that, I don't know if it's only me, but he might be more prone to 5$ wrench attacks because more people will know that he's involved into Bitcoin, and cryptocurrency.

TBH, there are more bad things than good things with this move, but it's his decision at the end of the day. I wonder how many customers of him will use Bitcoin to pay those goods. Maybe you can try yourself? Cheesy

I have to believe that the plenty of people who sell groceries and paste the bitcoin accepted never gets customers to patronize them with bitcoin. It could be that they put those signs for formality purpose and for people to see them that they are upto date and enlightened.
When I see this type of post, I have to think about the wait time and who bears the transaction fees which is likely that they will be sending through exchanges and not wallets.

Using LN would make more sense, but you would have to open a channel with each customer, so neither.

Even many people here have never tried the LN payment and know how it works, let alone a shop owner who bearly knows about bitcoin.
I have been hearing these types of stories and I don't have strong reasons to believe them, but there are reasons not to believe because there are no evidences.

I had the same experience when I walking in town the other day I thought it was just a normal QR code from our local online payment but guess what? it was Bitcoin payment accepted here, I just forgot to take a picture because I was rushing to my appointment. Looks like nowadays we are heading in some new direction regarding bitcoins payment and when you go to some bigger cities in our country, you often see that they also have some stores that accept bitcoins there. That's one of the signs that bitcoins are now gaining more trust from the people unlike before and I'm sure in the future the common fish vendors will also accept it as a means of payment as well.

Maybe like you, op also forgot to take a picture of his neighbor who he didn't fully imagine or expected to do so he was surprised. We don't know, but it's still a good development and establishing such a thing at least there is some bitcoin adaptations happening in their community.

who knows,  maybe why his neighbor did that just to save money and to do this he included it in his small business in their area. There are people like that, who don't care about trading, their only goal is to accumulate bitcoin even if they don't know enough about it.

This is really very interesting, every time you read a story related to the use of Bitcoin as a means of payment, doesn't this mean that more and more people know and accept Bitcoin, right? Maybe it's not that big but actually it's a good step up from the bottom and from small things.

What's more, indeed, sometimes we personally secretly relate to Bitcoin and don't tell other people, especially the people around us, for several reasons. Like what happened here, I also don't understand whether the people here are related to Bitcoin or not. Because actually, things related to crypto and Bitcoin are still often being debated. Too bad I haven't found new people who are also doing business in crypto here.

@OP, it is good news that you were not alone in your community anymore.  It is not surprising to see people's stores accepting Bitcoin because Bitcoin advertisements are almost everywhere, especially on the internet.  I like the way you offer your knowledge in helping your neighbor to have more understanding about Bitcoin.

Your neighbor accepting bitcoin as another mode of payment is actually good but the problem will be, will people in your locality be able to pay for the goods they are to buy from your neighbor with bitcoin despite the gas fees of $2 and above depending on the things they are paying for.

It is quite easy if they have installed the same application on their mobile phone.  For example, an internal transfer in Binance exchange doesn't charge anything.  So if it happens that the customer of the store have account in Binance and have some BTC fund, then they can make a fee less transaction.  Although the target customer of the store is @OP, I am sure some people around will get interested soon.

I don't know why some people don't get their research done before adopting bitcoin payment in their business. If your neighbor has noticed of recently about high gas fees of bitcoin, he would have known that, this shouldn't be the best time for someone to pay for something with an extra charge of bitcoin while he can pay easily with fiat without a single charge on top of what his paying for.

As I stated internal transfer of exchanges has no fee, and people who are trading have their funds on exchanges, and in Binance, P2P conversion if the seller wanted to sell his Bitcoin for Fiat also don't have to pay for trading fees.  So, the sales the store generates don't have to pay any fees if they wanted to accept and convert Bitcoin to fiat for restocking purposes.

Bitcoin has indeed gained considerable attention in recent years, making it a household term for many. However, not everyone who watches the news about Bitcoin takes the time to dig into it. The fact that your neighbor decides to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment in his store can really play a role in increasing Bitcoin awareness and understanding among his customers. Not only does he serve those who are already using Bitcoin, but he also piques the curiosity of those who may have heard of it but haven't delved deeper into its workings or potential benefits. This is an effective way to bridge the gap between people who have heard of Bitcoin but have not discovered more about it, opening up the possibility of understanding and using cryptocurrency more in daily life.

I'm glad that bitcoin is accepted as a payment method when shopping. It is both motivating and instructive for future generations. There are bitcoin ATMs around and some places accept bitcoin payments. Glad to see this and I think bitcoin is on the right track. So bitcoin will reach everyone. I will not go into details about your purchase, I do not want to ask questions such as how long the transfer process will take, I just want to say that you are facing a very good situation. Bitcoin will be in many places as time goes on.

I don't think bitcoin is something strange in 2023 for most countries. In fact I am very sure there are many traders and investors who are widespread in every country although bitcoin has not been legalized as a means of payment. Many people use bitcoins as their way of making money, so that's why I can find them easily especially when they are gathered together somewhere.

As a currency, bitcoin is a suitable means of payment. But traders and buyers have to be smart enough to get around things because of price volatility and transaction fee. Adoption of bitcoin as a means of micro payment has also been supported, but I believe bitcoin tends to be used for macro payments rather than micro payments. Bitcoin is suitable for cross-border financial transactions, apart from its fast transaction speed, it is also safe.

I can understand  the feeling of having someone  who shares the same ideologies with you as well as accepts bitcoin in a neighborhood where it seems using Bitcoin  is a crime 🤔.
I don't know how strict the restrictions  on bitcoin  is in your country but you guys should take things easy and still stay very much undercover till you feel safe using the asset openly  as we've heard  similar  incidence where some security  personnel came harassing  a petty trader simply because she uses bitcoin  with claims that she helps to aid crime through  trading with bitcoin.

That means you become a spreader of Bitcoin knowledge and awareness that Bitcoin will provide better benefits for your neighbors or people near you.
You become a teacher who teaches how Bitcoin works and even tells about this forum.
Yeah I am aware that I also spread the information about Bitcoin and I am glad that I taught someone because now I have someone I know that I can talk about the forum, crypto and other information. My brothers and sisters are already inactive inthe forum and also in crypto. All I can hear from my siblings is they only ask if I sti continue posting in the forum or not and I always answer "yes". It's better if I teach those who are interested near me and if they want to learn then all they need to do is to ask metk teach them.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have gained more awareness and acceptance over time. So I'm not surprised by this, but it's also a joy when neighbors and relatives start to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. When they see Bitcoin as a potential investment opportunity or a hedge against inflation, they can try to use and accept it as a payment method. Although not everyone openly uses Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, Many people prefer to keep their financial choices private. However, as awareness and acceptance continue to spread, it is becoming more common to encounter others using or accepting Bitcoin with various capabilities.

Using bitcoin as a source of investment and also as a payment system implies to the fact that lots of people are accepting bitcoin. Bitcoin is regularly adopted and surely one day bitcoin will be accepted by numerous individuals all over the world. As your neighbor mentioned about bitcoin so his this act is beneficial, he is spreading good thoughts about bitcoin by doing so. One thing is important to note that as bitcoin is using as a method of payment, it has positive impact as well as it also include some risk because of unregulated nature which a shopkeeper should know and then should take some decision according to it.

Since you just said that your neighbor heard about it from his cousin, which implies that he only heard bitcoin stories and became interested, I think from your statement that your neighbor didn't know how bitcoin transactions work. Your neighbor needs to learn about bitcoin transactions before accepting bitcoin as a form of payment in his store, however, as that would enable him to operate in his store.
I think the cousin has already done that but it's still not a bad idea if the OP can enlighten the neighbour the more. I just think the timing is wrong based on the mempool congestion and the high transaction fee on the bitcoin network. No one would one to pay for those petty goods he sells with Bitcoin because of high transaction fees. The publicity is good though and I hope he gets more patrons when the bitcoin network gets better.

It's really a good thing that shopping malls are using Bitcoin. But it would be better if you mentioned which country you live in and it would be easier for us to understand.  Because not all shopping malls accept Bitcoin. It accepts Bitcoin as payment at truly untrusted retail stores.  Actually there is nothing to surprise us with Bitcoin now. Bitcoin is getting easier day by day and Bitcoin demand is increasing in workplaces. Since his cousin knows well about Bitcoin, must have given him good advice about it which is why he took such initiative. We also want our country to accept Bitcoin like this, and people can transact easily.

That's good when you have a neighbor who also know about Bitcoin where you guys can share or ask questions if you need it. Unlike mine where the only one I know is he is the one I told about Bitcoin and I am also the one who taught him how Bitcoin works and also how this forum works. That means you become a spreader of Bitcoin knowledge and awareness that Bitcoin will provide better benefits for your neighbors or people near you.
You become a teacher who teaches how Bitcoin works and even tells about this forum.

But about how someone makes Bitcoin payments, it depends on how Bitcoin regulations are applied in your country.

-snip-
The thing that needs to be said here is also, whether using Bitcoin is not prohibited in his country, because most of what I know is that only a small number of countries allow payment tools with Bitcoin. If there is a prohibition in my opinion it is dangerous because it violates, and can be hit by punishment and damage his business that has been built so far.
Like in my country Indonesia, things like this will certainly be prohibited because Bitcoin is only getting regulation as a commodity asset, not allowed to be used as a means of payment. If that is done it will violate the law.

I just hope to meet someone who is a user and enthusiast crypto .

Good for your neighbor, you can ask them if they did their research before setting up their bitcoin payment option and if a single customer would be enough to keep such payment option up considering they would be paying fees to withdraw the bitcoin to your local currency.
Or if they plan to hodl the bitcoins gotten.

Yes, of course, has a fairly expensive cost at this time, especially today the transaction is fairly expensive for purchases in small amounts in such a business, unless it has a large value in purchases, I don't think it becomes a problem. Logically in the case of the progress of my business profits, my business is effective, but if the goal is to educate it certainly will not be a problem.

If so the OP provides advice only to be made an alternative investment or diversification of income on bitcoin.
If there is no ban, it is a very fositive news and must be continued.

Yes mate, whenever possible educate what you know to the other people. It’s great to see that the shopkeeper is bold enough to accepting payment with Bitcoins. I just want to know, how he is managing the payments at first? If he plans to hold those coins for some time, then definitely he might make more profits from it. He also can encourage more customers to pay through Bitcoins, if he promises them for a cashback to each payment done with Bitcoins. Keep us updated mate, how many payments he received.

It's wonderful when there are small businesses owned by people living nearby, and when such places accept Bitcoin. Since you know the person and the shop, can you share how the payments actually happen? I mean, if it's on-chain transactions, it takes around 10 minutes to get 1 confirmation if one paid enough in fees, which is a while to wait in a shop. Also, canned goods and stuff don't cost a lot of money, so BTC transaction fee can be pretty big compared to the total amount. Or is it a centralized solution? If so, which one, and does it work well?

I just want to share something here, because I have a neighbor here who has a small store called Sari-Sari store, whose goods are, can goods, coconut, wine, candies, soft drinks, soy sauce, and so on. Your neighbor is attempting to create something novel he rejects conventional payment methods in favor of bitcoin, which is both a good way for him to amass more money and a fresh approach to promote bitcoin. When the new currency arrived in my region and the government was attempting to adopt the cashless policy, many banks were having serious problems. It appeared as though there saver is always breaking down, so I feel we need to be in the future like your friend. The transaction network of bitcoin is superior to that of the banks, which has network issues and many defaults.  Kudos to your friend.

Two things;
- There are many people around you who are either into bitcoins or interested in bitcoins around you. Some people are not very open about it.

- Even though it is good that you have told your neighbour to ask you questions if he has any, it would be better if he helped him to learn how to get verified information for themselves. You may not be accessible tomorrow, so it is important he knows how to do things himself.

Looks like a made-up story, who are those paying your neighbor in Bitcoin? Is Bitcoin that cheap to use for buying such low cost things like candies and coconut? That 2$ on gas fee is enough to buy coconut and candies and still have some dollars left,  It makes no sense to pay someone in Bitcoin using transaction fee that's not suited for what they are buying.

Are you also accepting Bitcoin as means of payment in your business? What makes this neighbor start accepting Bitcoin too? I expected you to say you are also accepting Bitcoin as payment and if anyone must follow your footsteps, the acceptance of Bitcoin must come with benefits, enough to make someone want to copy you.

Sorry OP, I'm going pass on this story, it makes no sense.

With the development of bitcoin, I think around us, there are many people using and investing in bitcoin that we don't even know. Because many people like privacy and don't want to be bothered even though bitcoin has been accepted in many places. In my area, I hardly know anyone investing in bitcoin, but once I happened to know that a few people were investing in bitcoin through their relatives. But because they want to keep their privacy, they don't want to admit it.

Do not be surprised if currently many stores have accepted Bitcoin as a means of making payments for the goods they sell, and this has been growing because Bitcoin has been very popular among the public and many people already have Bitcoin so it is easy to make payments using Bitcoin, so you should not be surprised if your neighbor has done this and you must support so that he can receive many customers who do  Payment using Bitcoin.

Yeah me either, i fine it hard to belive this story because it lack substantial value and content for physical analyses and i am sure quite a good number of another forum user will share the same opinion about the thread.

But if ops can go further to provide some form of evidence to support the claim, even if it may not lead us to the authenticity of the story but at least it may serve as a pointer to where we are going.

As long as I know Bitcoin, I have never used it as a buying transaction tool. This is because my country prohibits that and maybe I could break the law if I did that. Quite happy if in the future Bitcoin can become an official transaction tool in my country. But it seems impossible.

I'm already very happy with the current state of crypto. Bitcoin crypto is recognized as an asset in my country. Although none of my close neighbors use Bitcoin or crypto as assets. Because I still live in a village with royal favorites providing services or production such as farming, servants, selling basic necessities, fishermen. So Bitcoin around my area is still like foreign goods.

However, if you also want to teach, don't advise him, as he said his cousin did instead and explained the risks involved. As a result, I believe it is now your duty to teach him how the bitcoin market functions, as you also want your neighbor to be a bitcoiner in your neighborhood.
......Or just put an asterisk to each advise you mentioned. This is usually what I do when I tell my friends about my story using Bitcoin. I am not responsible to where s/he uses her/his money and the volatility of the market. Surely they're intelligent enough to know that volatile market is out of anyone's control.   Grin

On the other side, I could just tell that I use Bitcoin for storing my money instead of using banks and then it's up to him/her whether s/he would use it for investment purposes.

Bitcoin payments in a store where we shop are certainly very rare to find even though Bitcoin is now very popular among the public, so you should be proud of neighbors who have used Bitcoin as a means of payment for goods at the store, and those of you who already have Bitcoin may be able to make transactions to increase the enthusiasm of your neighbors that Bitcoin is indeed worthy of being used as legal tender, So with the transactions that occur, other people will also be interested in learning about Bitcoin and they will definitely want to make payments using Bitcoin.
Quite rare here also in my area, but people are aware and somehow knowledgeable for a bit about Bitcoin. Though since most of the people here in my area are money-diggers, they're interested more in earning part rather than the storage of money part.

That's an interesting thing, using the Bitcoin payment option makes Bitcoin's performance so far not in vain in the sense that at least they can find out the use of Bitcoin other than investing, and from the options that have been used by your neighbor, it is clear that he is someone who likes Bitcoin. and what's interesting is that he didn't know that bitcoin was spreading around him, and this is good for someone's introduction.

and here he got a glimpse of Bitcoin from his cousin who probably didn't teach him fully, sounds from the story he just introduced the basics to him, and maybe now you will teach him about the mechanics of Bitcoin which is better in Options, and this is the interesting thing I think. keep teaching him if you wish the people around will fully understand Bitcoin in their life, maybe they will become like his cousin or at least they will see great opportunities in the future.

Exactly. And I don't think at this time of the high fee transaction retail stores accept bitcoin for payment of goods. The story is... The write up might be there to say "We/I accept Bitcoin Here" but who will buy something in which the transaction fee is even higher than the normal amount money that you will use to buy the goods. Even the seller won't resell those accept coins because of low price of bitcoin at the moment and high transaction fee. One thing we have to know here is that money is for business and business money is for buying and selling of goods and not for stock. So how will the labour do to buy new goods? I have such stories but I have not been move to share mine.

I think this is a great innovation, But sorry, this is not the right place to apply bitcoin as a means of payment. Costs will be more expensive than the goods purchased, it is not a solution, but a new problem.

I'm afraid that people see bitcoin transaction fees to be so expensive and that it's illogical. Bitcoin will not be effective for shopping for goods worth $ 1 - $ 100. bitcoins are effectively used for shopping payments at prices over $1000

I think putting bitcoin as payment in your neighbor's shop is not quite right. I like the innovation, but not to be applied in your neighbor's shop

So, your local Sari-Sari just took a quantum leap into the crypto cosmos? That's an exemplar of progressive thought! Your neighbour seems to be adroitly maneuvering the intricacies of unknown, stepping boldly into the futuristic unknown, one Bitcoin handshake at a time. There's a certain allure to the spectacle of a modest convenience store accepting BTC, wouldn't you agree? His decision to school his youngsters about Bitcoin? An unambiguous A+. The crux is to inoculate the young ones with the nitty-gritty of digital currencies at the earliest, to brace them for the looming future. Who's to say, maybe these sprouts will sprout into formidable crypto mavens someday!

Moving on to the clientele. Sure, the crypto enthusiasts form a tight-knit community as of now. But ponder this - every crypto investor who chances upon your neighbour's outlet will be on cloud nine. Similar ecstasy will echo among the netizens once news breaks about this local, small-scale hub embracing BTC. This has the potential to set the internet ablaze, trust me! Let's not downplay the PR potential either! It's a riveting tale begging to be unearthed by the media. Envision the buzzworthy headlines - "Tiny Sari-Sari store rides the Bitcoin wave." It only hurts new customers who set up a Bitcoin wallet just to pay at the store. Or anyone asking about the new pyment method perhaps, because then they’ll find out fees are large so in their mind from then on it’ll be “Bitcoin is expensive to use”.

For the time being, accepting Bitcoin in a store is actually likely the best time to do it. You don’t want to gather Bitcoin earnings during price peaks, right now it’s pretty much an investment if you accept it in your store! Anyway, how many people do you think will actually pay using Bitcoin? It still isn’t a popular choice in my opinion..

Maybe he added this payment method more as a joke, cause there will be some problem to use bitcoin in usual shop as a payment
For retail, this is not the best way to calculate. If I want to buy a bread for example, I have to pay half of its price. We need to wait some minutes and it's just for one bread brick.
This method is good for paying attention to this store. People will discuss this store. We're now talking about this man and his store from many kilometers away from him. Probably he never not sell anything using bitcoin, but it was good advertising

Great. How I wish people could be as open-minded as that guy you talked about. Even though it's just a small store, it doesn't matter. Bitcoin is currency and it can be used as means of payment for anything.
This must also be a tough time with all the Bitcoin transaction speed and expensive fees. His customers won't be able to pay him directly as they might regret the $2-5 fees just so it could enter faster. I have a transaction earlier and it's still not confirmed for 12 hours, that's a dollar fee only because I just want to try how slow the transaction are now.
I hope this problem can soon be fixed for those small shops to accept Bitcoin again without trouble.

I'll spend time talking with him about how he discovered Bitcoin and why he accepted Bitcoin as payment. You are aware that some users find Bitcoin difficult to utilize because of its scalability and high fees. His response would undoubtedly motivate me. If the store owner is unaware of the Lightning Network, I am willing to educate him so that consumers would use Bitcoin as payment at their store and other stores.

While there will be very few payments, the seller may well not wait for confirmation from the network. It is enough to see that the transaction is in the mempool, that the fee looks reasonable, and that no RBF has been used. Of course the risks remain, but for small amounts and infrequent purchases these are small risks, and the attractiveness of the store increases, as well as more bitcoin advertising, which is good.

Great story, I will keep aside the part whether it is true or not but taking Bitcoin payments on a grocery store like your neighbor maybe not suitable. There are difficulty in small payments with bitcoin, his customers have to pay extra fees for the purchase and wait for the confirmation of transaction which I don't think no one is going to do. I will understand if the business have bigger price but not a sari-sari store.
Probably, even if he'll accept Bitcoin, the sign will just be a design in his store since I doubt anyone will prefer to use Bitcoin payment. But it was still a nice initiative of him. Also, your neighbor is open to teach his children about Bitcoin so it's good.

I mean, it is really a small store, and transacting a small amount is really not a good idea unless the customer purchases a ton of goods, but again, it is a really good initiative, and now you can pay him in bitcoin, or in the morning you can talk to him about bitcoin. It is just weird that his cousin is making a living in trading and then he accepts payment in bitcoin because if I were him, I would ask my cousin to teach me trading as a side hustle.

Using Bitcoin in real life or knowing someone use Bitcoin in your country aren't dangerous, but the problem in your story is your neighbor know you're use Bitcoin, your neighbor know your house and it's dangerous for your security.

Many cases of robbery and any criminal thing were caused by neighbor which already know when you leave your house, who's live in your house, when your house is empty etc.

Using LN would make more sense, but you would have to open a channel with each customer, so neither.

Finally, someone sees the way I see using Bitcoin as means of payment, it doesn't make sense to buy something you can eat using 1$ or more as transaction fee, how much is the thing you trying to pay for? It's not just worth it.

I prefer using Bitcoin as means of payment if what I am trying to pay for is costly, like I will gladly use 2$ as a transaction fee for 200$ worth of anything, that's why accepting Bitcoin as means of payment is not for every business.

If you are selling things around 5$ to 40$ it will be hard for people to patronize you because they will set their minds on how much they will be using to pay for your goods, not cool, unless they are buying more than one or two items from you.

Presently, Bitcoin as means of payment is only good for merchants that are selling costly goods and services.

The fact that you meet people familiar with Bitcoin sounds very optimistic. You were surprised to meet an ally of interest, but it can be assumed that there are a lot of people like you and a neighbor in your area, but people do not want to tell the whole world about it, knowing what consequences this can lead to.
But even the fact that your neighbor will have few customers willing to pay for goods with bitcoins at this time is good because people, knowing about the alternative method, may gradually become interested in bitcoins.
We do not know what will happen in the future, but we all hope that there will be more users of Bitcoin every year and that your neighbor, in some sense, is now becoming a distributor of this idea. I think it's great.

It's funny because at least I'm not alone in our place anymore, and I also told my neighbor that if he wants to ask a question, He can ask me anytime.

It  shouldn't  be funny to you. You don't need to be surprised because your neighbour receives Bitcoin as payment, it is nothing new. People are getting to know Bitcoin everyday which you don't expect them to announce it to the public. For your neighbour to make decisions of accepting bitcoin as payment that means, he already understands bitcoin and have a good reason for the new means of payment which will be beneficial to him and his business. Don't get surprise when you discover people who are close to you deal with bitcoin, people are getting more awareness of it.

Perhaps what the OP meant is that he find it quite funny, and that he is surprised because he doesn't think that his neighbors are into bitcoin. And his curiosity, he asked the owner and that's how everything started the conservation and that's where the OP offer his help.

And we understand that crypto or bitcoin is growing in every country. With that, maybe in the next couple of years we might see just ordinary business having a "bitcoin logo accepted here" and obviously it will be great for adoption.

It's a good advice and she had the opportunity to get more customers who will be willing to make payment with bitcoin within her location, try to encourage her the more to learn how this could also be profitable to her and her business, just as suggested by previous replies that she can also make decision on the use of bitcoin lightning network provided that if she's having more customers coming and interested to make payment in bitcoin, it will be an opportunity for her to use her savings or asset realized also doubled as an investment which could yield more funds when the market rise.

Sound good to hear that your neighbour accepts Bitcoin as payment in the retail store, but with all due respect this story is not enough to create a thread for it I guess there are several threads here in the forum where you can share your story and also receive the necessary attention.
If you could story writing, gunhell16 can tell his story.

We need more stories to have more Bitcoin adoption.

Small shops accepting bitcoin as payment as your neighbor is unlikely to have any effect on the cryptocurrency industry. Even if it will be dozens or hundreds of similar shops. I also have doubts that at least someone other than you will pay with a bitcoin at least once in this store for purchases. Despite the negative forecasts, there are still positive moments in this. An important point is that in such stores there is an alternative to traditional money. The more such stores and places there are, the more beneficial it will be for the entire bitcoin chain. But I still believe that for efficiency bitcoin should include big chain stores in the payment method. That's when it really takes a leap forward. And what is happening in your region is nothing more than an inconspicuous trifle on a global scale.

Good to hear that, I haven't heard any "sari-sari" store near my place that accepts bitcoin as payment method. Maybe your neighbor really knows how good bitcoin is, although it might be a struggle for him because of the price fluctuation and volatility, and hopefully he/she will not sell on a lost specially if he needs to sell to cover up expenses in his store and sort of keep his business as he needs to buy needed items to be sold in his store. So that's only my concern to the store owner, nevertheless its a bold move on his/her part as usually Gcash is the universally accepted in the Philippines. But this proves why Philippines, is the,

I asked him what motivated him to do this, and although it's good that he did it, Then who will be the customer who will use Bitcoin to pay for his goods?

This is surprising if your country didn't have any foot tracks of users using crypto. But if many already used crypto to your nearest neighborhood then its expected that adding bitcoin as payment method will gonna happen. But still this good news to be heard since for making this to happen it open other door to your nearest merchant to follow the same since they can create a little discussion about what they do. And this is free marketing especially when many talk about bitcoin and merchants accepting this.

Nowadays, if I see even a child talking or some young people making use of Bitcoin, I will never be shocked because I believe that Bitcoin is not a new word to the world because the word has reached many ears due to the spread of Bitcoin news in different social media. Almost no one will login to his or her  site without finding news about Bitcoin, but the only problem is that many of them don't want to learn, and that is the reason why the rate of adoption is not up to our expectations.

Your neighbor's decision to accept Bitcoin as an alternative payment in his shop will follow good rules in bitcoin adoption because this is the type of thing that attracts the intention of customers who are not willing to learn about Bitcoin at first but founding thing in this ways may make think to learn about it faster. Many customers who have heard about Bitcoin and think that is a ponzi scheme or a scam will be able to learn and understand more about it once they discover that they are using Bitcoin as payment and accepting it at a nearby store.

It's a good thing, your neighbor did. And it's great to see small business embracing an other payment option to their customers. By doing this, he is not only catering to customers who actively use Bitcoin, but also promoting awareness and adoption of digital currencies in your local area.

If I'm going to buy $10 worth of items in the store why should I have to wait ten minutes on average and pay a 20% fee if paying with cash I don't pay fees and I don't have to wait.

Even though people don't pay or purchase goods from his store using Bitcoin because of the high cost of transaction fee, I think he has actually helped a lot way in promoting Bitcoin adoption. Even a passer-by would be interested in knowing what bitcoin is about. And I think that if more ideas like this is promoted, that is Bitcoin flyers and bill boards are made available in our local areas, it would also go a long way in promoting Bitcoin adoption.

Let's say his neighbor did not have a single customer who would pay him using Bitcoin. I would still appreciate his initiative. I will encourage other businesses to accept Bitcoin whether they have a customer for it or not. If I see a store accepting Bitcoin for the day, I may see it, smile and walk away because I might not need anything to buy from that store. Let's say I may need something to buy after a week, and I will prefer that shop because I saw they accept Bitcoin. Poker player has a point, BTW. The current transaction fee is too high for small transactions!

For Lightning, they may consider using Blue Wallet.

Since you just said that your neighbor heard about it from his cousin, which implies that he only heard bitcoin stories and became interested,
I think from your statement that your neighbor didn't know how bitcoin transactions work. Your neighbor needs to learn about bitcoin transactions before accepting bitcoin as a form of payment in his store, however, as that would enable him to operate in his store.

However, if you also want to teach, don't advise him, as he said his cousin did instead and explained the risks involved. As a result, I believe it is now your duty to teach him how the bitcoin market functions, as you also want your neighbor to be a bitcoiner in your neighborhood.

How long does your neighbor business accepting Bitcoin and what’s his feedback so far on using it? Bitcoin price is very volatile recently which might affect all his sales on Bitcoin if he didn’t convert in fiat immediately.

It’s nice to see a local small store using Bitcoin as mode of payment. I will be happy to support store like this if I see in my area but so far no one here is doing this kind of movement for Bitcoin. What particular area you are. I’m assuming you are from Philippines too because sari sari store is our local term for mini store.

Posting some picture of it will make this story more interesting.

What I can point to, to make a discussion out of this topic is a few like, where do the neighbour children get access to Bitcoin from that the parent is advising them to pay with Bitcoin?
How does he intend to manage the fees on small goods and who pays for the blockchain fees while using it in the store to pay for the goods?

Good for your neighbor, you can ask them if they did their research before setting up their bitcoin payment option and if a single customer would be enough to keep such payment option up considering they would be paying fees to withdraw the bitcoin to your local currency.
Or if they plan to hodl the bitcoins gotten.
