Yes, it will, but you need to keep in mind it will get only 4x bandwidth whereas your x16 PCI-E GPU will get 16x bandwidth, the hashing may less so you should get a GPU so that it may only use 4x bandwidth and make the best out of it.... If you buy a GTX970, it will only get 4x bandwidth and waste 12x of its power..

That is completely wrong. The hash rate will be the same on a 1x or a 16x lane. You can also just use the powered UBS 3.0 1x to 16x risers. They work extremely well.
But I kind of know something else, this is a list of refences.

It depends a lot on PCI-e generation since yours is Gen3, some stuff may occur becuase GTX970, SLI may use a lot of bandwidth for cross-GPU communication...

@xhomerx10
"you wll nott notice any difference in mining?"
u mean between the x4 and x16 <--- yes
or u mean between having 1x gtx 970 and having 3x gtx 970 <--- what?  Did you say "another" GTX970 or "another two" GTX970s

If you're going with three GPUs you're going to need a powered riser but on your motherboard, using the PCI-e 2.0 4x slots disables some of the other PCI-e slots so use caution and do some reseach before attempting to run more than 2 GPUs.

oh no, i will only use 2 GPU's and i heard that it doesnt matter if i get gtx970 or any other card with it for mining so thats good !
i will be connecting on the pci-e 2.0 4x and the other one will stay in the pci-e 3.0 x16

You will be fine running 2 GTX 970's on that motherboard and you will not notice much if any performance difference at all when mining or gaming.  The X4 slot still has a throughput of 4Gb/s - PLENTY for anything you're going to do.
Also, while you probably should add another case fan, to draw in more air for the 2 GPUs, they are only dissipating about 145W each.  You don't need risers for a dual GPU system - that just complicates things.
I ran dual 7970s side by side for mining without issue and they drew much more power than the 970s.

What case are you using?  Is the PSU bottom mounted?  There might be an issue with space for two cards if you have a mini or mid sized case as each card needs at least 40mm.  Measure twice.

No, 4 Gb/s for a memory is pretty low.... More the bandwidth, more the hashrate because more the fast CPU gets to keep bytes in memory, try it yourself and see the difference.

It's a *may*, it may or may not happen because of optimizations.... Don't rely on my words, ask a expert. Even tho, this is from my personal experience and experience as a professional in ICT.

thx vm, I appreciate the help

No problem, I'm always there for help. Smiley

Get these and you're set.

http://www.amazon.com/Powered-Adapter-Riser-Cable-Connector/dp/B00IN9F0W8

You also want to have ALOT of airflow over your GPUs when mining.

hmm what those gonna help me with Smiley getting full power just like x16 ?

They are going to help you better fit your GPU because if the motherboard's end isn't open GPU can't fit that way...

Those are going to (I think, don't rely on this), lower the bandwidth even from 4x to 1x...

aha okay, i will see what ppl says about th 4x and 1x and their affect on the hashrate

hello guys iam kinda lost
i have z77 d3h gigabyte MotherBoard
i have an gtx 970 on it in the PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot
and i want to buy another gtx 970 (for mining purposes)
so my question is can the gtx 970 fits on the other PCI-E 2.0 x4 slot ?

thx 4 help <3
