"...a 7nm node test chips with working transistors..."

AKA VERY early prototype, don't expect to see real world parts using this for 4-6 years ballpark.

Folks are still working the bugs out of the process yields on 14nm and 16nm, with 10nm on the horizon for a year or two from now.

was silicon working good until 10nm, they are trying to push it aty the maximum possible, but they would change material pretty soon

it was also confirmed by intel http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/02/intel-forges-ahead-to-10nm-will-move-away-from-silicon-at-7nm/

i think this news has more to do with cpu manufacturing

If it gets to asics for btc mining it will be 2018 or later.  Right now the money is not there for asic's.

14m are mined 7m are left (rounding)  by 2018 maybe 5 million left.

so

5 million at 100 bucks =   500million no need to advance mining in any way

5 million at 1000 bucks = 5 billion     well we may have  the need to do 16nm or 14nm  but 10nm and 7nm still not $$ worth it.

5 million at 10,000 bucks = 50 billion   16nm 14nm and 10nm will all be developed  and pressure for 7nm will be strong.

All pulled out of thin air by feel for it to be true.

Miners aren't even at 10nm yet - KnC likes to claim they're at 16nm, and that's it.

see also: Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Mining > Mining speculation > GloFo tests 7nm. We prolly shall see miners on this node next year.

Is this news article means that the next jump in mining hardware will come with these kind of improvements?
