Why ICO?  What do you need crypto for in this project aside from funding?

There is a plenty of russian websites where you can watch different movies for free. This experience is pretty similar to netflix but the service owners are earning on ads placen on the websites and before each movie. I don't think that in africa anyone will bother about any copyright stuff so you can try to do the same free service.

Hi folks, I'm thinking of creating a site to stream African movies to tell African stories. Is it something that would work in an ICO?

Not sure if an ICO is the best solution... And an African Netflix is a very broad statement.

What about an ICO for a startup incubator for different african regions and then in the incubator try to make a company to generate African movies, series, documentaries

I just don't see it happening. Even if the ICO succeeds and the project finds a userbase in Africa, Netflix will notice and undercut them with a better offer. It will also be very hard or even impossible to get redistribution rights from the content owners that are already in a contract with Netflix and other existing platforms.

Africa is a huge potential market. You never know. Building the network of users is a whole other matter

Cool replies. Thanks all. I think it will only be viable when Africans have reliable internet plus lots of disposable cash. Right now, except for a few pockets, that's not the case, so I will hold.

If this can be positive and positive, I think it will work good, but I'm still curious about what this ICO project  in Africa is going to do. Just to get new money? Or something else?

Yeah, it could be a good idea if it would be cheaper than Netflix.
But do you think that people from Africa are willing to way for this kind of service ?

On the top of that, no I doubt it's a very good idea, but it would depend a lot on market research, which is something you obviously haven't done if you're just asking us if it's a good idea. I know people in Africa already pirate to watch their stories/films, so it will boil down to cost and affordability. If your idea makes it cheap for them to use, maybe. But an ICO? Get the marketing done right, get the target audience excited, and you have a winner. So your ICO is plainly just to raise money, not a blockchain solution, right?

And unless Africans can't buy a subscription to Netflix for 10$? I think your idea isn't viable.

If you truly consider this, you should provide a bit more information. This vague description gives an impression that you are not capable to launch a ICO like that.

The concept is interesting though, what do you think about competition between other streaming-services in Africa though?

If you really want to run an ICOs try something accepted world wide, try make a game using smartcontract like tamaghoci or something.
