Physical Bitcoin can to be found on Ebay.
Really?  With the properties being discussed in this thread?  Please post a link to Ebay to a physical Bitcoin that can prove it contains the private key to me.  Something like this:
You could can create a non-counterfeitable coin by embedding an NFC chip that will sign a message using the private key.
Thanks!

I already own a bunch of those physical Bitcoins that use a holographic sticker to hide the private key.  Maybe you are talking about those?

I was thinking about this the other week.
Somehow putting the key maybe even printed inside opals that can only be opened by being totaly crushed and destoryed. Or those cool purple colored rocks people pull out of the ground, what ever they are called. Somehow get the key inside that

Yeah, you could "mine" your bitcoins when you need them!

Sledge you have recently joined this forum but it seem you are heavily equipped with knowledge about bitcoins and other crypto-currencies. I do understand that risk of security lie and I guess your idea can actually evade this risk and make it a highly secure asset. Great Idea from your side hence will wish if you have more ideas to share with us

Now that is an interesting idea.  Pondering it now...

Passive chip with enough crypto to sign a message with the private key.

Hmmmm....

Still have not plugged the hole in all physical coin mechanisms:  you have to trust the maker to not make duplicates or keep copies of the private key for themselves.

But assuming a reputable coin maker ala Mike C (may his business RIP for now) you might be on to something.

That's a cutesy idea, albeit with counterfeiting issues (you sorta have to trust that the coin you receive has a legit code inside), but I think smartphones are the future for those sorts of transactions anyway.

Instead of coins with the private key hidden under a sticker, which is kind of on the easy side of being able to be hacked, how about this?

Before rough polishing, laser-drill holes through the diameter of the coin so that it can be snapped in half with force from an average human. Still before rough polishing, a slot is laser-drilled into the side of the coin, where a strip of metal that contains the private key is inserted. Strip of metal is inserted, the end of it capped with wax. Then the slot is welded closed, rough and final polishing done.

To get the private key, you snap the coin in half. Strip of metal falls out with private key in mini key format. The coin's public address can be counterfeited, but the counterfeit will be worthless if the original is spent.

Too much effort for a coin.
