Bitcoin is still king and will remain in that position for at least the whole 2018. I do hope that lightning will be adopted throughout the year, because this is a big game changer. All the merchants that stopped accepting it would jump straight back in.

They will announce it this has been teased for a really long time and i think the network is also a bit stable now it can be the right time. This will help bitcoin recover from the current state it dying , altcoins are killing this can be the last hope for bitcoin to grow again

Had been hearing this rumor in different forums. But not really sure whether amazon has any plan to incorporate crypto or not. Still the crypto market is much more volatile. It needs some time to settle down.

Bitcoin will be the only pick, else I find ways that Amazon might be coming with its own token for the purpose of transaction. Already more firms have initiated the same plan using their own tokens. One such is the online market gift for wholesale needs alibaba.com

I don't believe it's still suitable for retailers to trade using bitcoin. Technology is not the best for small transactions and customers won't be using BTC to pay unless fees change.

If Amazon were to announce Bitcoin support on Feb 2nd which currencies would you think would be best to be holding?

it is hypothetical but isn't the answer obvious already?

the answer is bitcoin! think about it and look at some price history. each time bitcoin has a big rally, altcoins mostly drop. some of them drop even harder than others.
even if any of them rose, their rises wouldn't be as big which means having your money elsewhere is loss-of-opportunity.

I don't think so. Bitcoin was widely accepted but then discontinued by many websites due to the high transaction fees. I highly doubt bitcoin will be adopted by any mainstream site until this is fixed. Other cryptocurrencies may be used however.

Such news whenever it happens will surely cause a big spike in bitcoin price
and jumpstart its next rally.

IF they did then of course the currency that they accept will moon. However you would see smaller increases in the other top coins as it will bring more awareness to cryptocurrency.

another year another story, i have already heard of amazon accepting bitcoin in late 2017 but this is pure speculation right?
so only for the pleasure of speculation obviously it will be big, not for real use because apart for very big whales i think noody is going to buy things with bitcoin (but things will change in future) but sure under it will be a great form of marketing

I also cannot see it until they get the lightning network working properly. Currently the fees are too high and things are too slow. Until that is fixed I cannot see them accepting it. Maybe around 2019/2020 would be my guess.
Even with that I have my doubts about the acceptance of bitcoin from amazon, many people here in the forum want to just use their bitcoin without having to go through any kind of KYC policy and that is not going to be possible with amazon which is an American company, so even if Amazon accepted bitcoin how many people here will use it? Not many I guess.

The bitcoin itself , since you told that amazon will be supporting bitcoin that is obvious that we should hold bitcoin , and hope to happen and i guess that the price will hit its past all time high.

There has been speculation of amazon accepting bitcoin for a long time and it has not happened yet and I do not see a reason why it should happen right now, so the best thing to do is to concentrate in other things instead of wasting our time in something that is not going to happen anytime soon.

That would be awesome, that one of the top e-commerce sites started to support bitcoin or even some other cryptocurrency, for example, litecoin. That would cause a wave of accepting crypto in other e-commerce projects. Unfortunately, this won't happen in nearest future I think. Bitcoin is not the best decision to pay with if we are talking about mass e-commerce market

Yes, mostly of those big companies name got involved in accepting Bitcoin are starting to remove Bitcoin on their pay list choices because of the transaction fees problem but if the Lightning Network would work or the transaction fees will be starting to lower there might be a possibility that they will going to accept Bitcoin again. For now the only source to make a transaction with low cost fee is the Lightning Network but it is not working properly yet and it is currently under development.

Amazon registered some crypto domain names last year e.g. amazonbitcoin.com.
Also have seen rumors of Amazon adding Litepay (Litecoin) or starting their own
crypto exchange. I think it is just a matter of time for some crypto related positive
news from Amazon.

IF that would happen then it would seem obvious to me that bitcoin would skyrocket, as that would be the one being supported by amazon?

obviously it would be best to hold bitcoin exclusively, But the fees and transactional latency will not allow this to happen. customers would spend so much on fees for the majority of items.

Yes their is a big rally to became a top one of the Crypto currency.Bitcoin is already on the top,the competition was between the altcoin to replace the bitcoin.Ethereum, litecoin,Bitcoin cash,Waves and Monero having good potential and they in the rally.Bitcoin is king of Cryptocurrency.

I agree 100%.  Bitcoin will NEVER be in wide use for point of sale in a brick and mortar store or internet sales at high volume retailers.  The transaction time and the fees have removed that option from the table.  There are other coins which are much more capable of doing this.  Etherium and Litecoin would be my two picks that would do well in this market.

Given your parameters.. Bitcoin/BTC (and what ever else they will accept)

It doesn't mean BTC will be used by many to pay but it will have a huge impact on BTC/crypto acceptance worldwide.  It may cause a surge on BTC price that may cause alts to plunge but that should be temporary and will eventually correct.  All in all, it should be a positive news for crypto in the long run.

I hope it happens and we need more businesses to do this!!!

A lot of online vendors actually stopped accepting bitcoin because of high transaction fees and it can be slow.  That being said, bitcoin is still a great store of value.

It makes no sense. The vendor doesnt even pay the fee, the buyer does. And if they are worried about the fee when exchanging BTC, they could always just use BitPay or some other payment processor which allows crypto payments.

They won't do it. They might promote their own coin though:

https://futurism.com/could-amazon-be-launching-its-own-cryptocurrency/

Quote
Domain Name Wire (DNW) reports that three domains were registered this week that are related to blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies: amazoncryptocurrencies.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and amazonethereum.com. Initially, one may think the retailer is preparing to reveal something related to Ethereum and Ether tokens, or that it’s about to launch its own crytocurrency.

They've either bought these domains so no-one else can squat on them. Or they are going to launch their own cryptocurrency.

I think not. Bitcoin deals very slowly. can not meet for amazon. I think eth or ripple will be accepted by amazon. Because the speed of transaction is fast

It shouldn't / cannot be bitcoin due to the current network limitations (speed, fee).
I would say eth, ltc or xrp (or a combo).

That will be a great news for all of us.
And to the altcoins right now, Eth/Ripple/ARDR can be a great choice for all of us.

if I recall correctly, amazon has 1500 transactions a second/ #or minute?.

Guess with this bitcoin, it wont be bitcoin. The crypto has to be able to process such a huge amount of transactions

Actually I am beginning to doubt that these types of merchants will have any real effect on Bitcoin. Anyone who buys things online will have heard about Bitcoin by now. Anyone who is using Amazon would probably not switch to Bitcoin. But yes, people who have been waiting for Amazon to reach their countries might now be able to start accessing it, but at the same time, this will not push adoption. Because these will be people who already use Bitcoin. What will make a person start using Bitcoin? Not the things Amazon does I am sure.

Personally I dont think this is going to happen and im not sure it would be good or bad for Bitcoin.
We need more adoption but from the likes of a global online goods seller im not sure.
While the price at the moment is kind of stable,
it could start a run like 2017 and become out of control which would not be good for traders of goods.
Bitcoin and other coins like Litecoin are perfect for Peer-to-Peer payments, cutting out any middle ground.

You mentioned bitcoin already so that's an obvious answer.

You should modify your title from "If Amazon were to announce Bitcoin support on Feb 2nd...." --> " If Amazon were to announce Bitcoin crypto support on Feb 2nd...."

This would be amazing for crypto exposure,
This has been discussed since last year and I'm not so sure if there are sources that on Feb 2 something like this will come out.

This would be amazing for crypto exposure, not sure if bitcoin in it's current state makes a good payment currency (I wouldn't ever use BTC to buy on amazon) but the exposure alone is worth it's weight.

Once you have microsoft and amazon accepting crypto, this whole idea of "they hate it and want to kill it" goes out the window in my eyes!
Just take a look at some of the worlds biggest finance names, you'll see both Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos are very friendly with these people.
