You shouldn't take CMC listed coins as legit though, they also go bust.

CMC listing shouldn't be deciding factor in judging quality of project, there isn't much in getting there really.

CMC only lists projects that have been registered on their site. I don't know if CMC will do an analysis first or not. But you are right that projects that have been listed on CMC can also be useless projects like LUNA. When LUNA crashed which made its price drop by 99% but you can see that Luna Classic is still listed on CMC. At least CMC can help you avoid scam projects. But some projects can be unlisted from the exchange or CMC.

Now I also know that whatever is listed on Coinmarketcap is the real deal... so if I am researching a coin and it is not listed there, are there any chances of it ever being listed... or should I just let it go?

What do you all have to say?
CMC or Coingecko aren't the only aggregator sites. In fact, there are several those which are better than the earlier mentioned two. I know this will be debatable but that's a fact. We've Cryptorank and Dexscreener just to mention those two. It's just that CMC and CG were the foremost ones and crypto enthusiasts quickly suck up to them. What most people don't know is that there's no guarantee that tokens listed on these sites will do well later. Crypto is an industry of risk, very high one. There's no certainty what can happen with cryptos as everything is purely speculative and that's why the caveat, "Only invest what you can afford to lose" exists here.

The thing that you should really be needing to consider always is on investing on the amount on which you can afford to lose whenever you do make out investment decisions specially on meme coins
or even with those projects which does have some good utility or overall when it comes to potential. So it would really be just that important when you do realyl have these
kind of considerations when making up some choices in regarding about investment.

Every project, with utility or not, holds some risks on it nevertheless, you are totally right. Weight your odds, analyze what you can, and only then take action.

Not all new altcoins will be immediately listed on the coinmarketcap platform, obviously many people have wasted their time on meme coins which were only created to be like a lottery, if an altcoin wants to be included in the main CMC list it must meet the relevant requirements.
A coin meeting the coin market cap requirement does not mean they are legit coins. I have seen lots of dead coins on the coin market cap, so meeting their requirements doesn’t make them relevant. When doing research about a coin to invest in, there are other things that are supposed to be considered.

I don’t really recommend people invest in new projects because the risk is just always too high. It’s better to invest in bitcoin or get strong altcoins and invest in them rather than investing in meme coins and shitcoins because the chances of making money are just kind of low and the risk of losing is high.
Come to think that meme coins could really be that easily get listed on CMC specially if they do have that volume or would be able to hit up those checkmarks in speaking about the requirement then it would really be just that too easy on getting listed but we cant really be able to deny that this is really that mostly what makes people do get interested on the moment that they would really be getting listed into these index site which includes coingecko as well. They do have those requirement before gets listed and just like been said that getting listed doesnt mean that it would really be that a sure legit project. This is why you should really be that careful on what are the projects that you are really that investing with specially with meme coins. People do really make out some resrarch on the moment that they had already screwed up.

Not necessarily. Any project can be listed there. Maybe you are thinking about getting listed in exchanges. Getting listed on exchanges means significantly more than being on coinmarketcap. Even though it does not necessarily guarantee success, it is a lot more reliable sign that a project is legitimate and reliable
Totally right. It would be a big hit to the credibility of the big guys listing something that would vanish soon, so the chances of that while listing on them taking place is a lot less, usually Grin But still not 100%.

There still are chances. It could be possible you just caught the project a little too early. If isn’t listed on coinmarketcap it might be difficult to assess its value though.

Even though new coins have been registered on the Coinmarketcap platform, in fact, to collect data on a large number of coins, by knowing the details to find out which coins have potential, in this case it is necessary to know comprehensive information regarding the selected coin.

Not that things are not listed forever but indeed there may be several reasons so that it might indeed be an obstacle such as not having requirements that are indeed feasible to be in CMC or another possibility is that it does not want to be registered there because the purpose of making the project is just looking for prey to become a profit target.

But it would indeed be more worth it not to approach a coin like this because regardless of the reason I think it will never be a good thing if it is forced to be in a situation or research something that is not too certain like that.

Although in the end this does depend on belief but for shitcoins that do not fall into the eligibility category then why do we force researching it because in the end it is just a waste of time.

There are some good alts that are not on cmc but on cg
the two always have their own advantages and disadvantages, it really shows when there are suddenly certain meme coin that surged and reached hundred millions market cap, sometime the data is not available in coinmarketcap or in coingecko, so in my opinion a coin that is not listed in coinmarketcap isn't necessarily a bad coin, maybe they are just on the process of review though I know for a fact that coinmarketcap review aren't that strict.

if any, i will care more about listing in the exchange, since they are like the gate to bigger capital inflow which could help raise value of a coin, since all that matter is a price increase right? so exchange is the key.
if a coin just listed in some random low quality exchange, then they're done for. bigger exchange won't list them to save themselves from their reputation being stained.
I feel like if you could get listed at a big place, then you will be listed at CMC already, you are not going to get listed at a good decent exchange without being listed at CMC, it's so much easier to get listed there first.

I know that the idea seems like a good one, and it's true if you could get listed at some place like gate for example then you are going to be fine, but the reality is that we are not going to see any project that sucks so bad that they can't even get listed at CMC but good enough that it has volume potential enough to get listed at an exchange. This is why I think it will not happen, plus if they had any money to pay the exchange, they would have enough money to get listed at CMC at the same time as well.

Well i understand what you wanted to say, most of the investors look at the coin on cmc to known more about it for the records if soon they will invest on that particular coin, most of the coin there is legit because it needs a lot of requirements before the coin list in there, if the coin you wanted to invest is not listed in there then think twice or make more research for good don't decide to invest too early.

The thread is turning out to be complicated day by day ... i get a few posts telling me to prioritize the Cmc list just like you have mentioned that most of the coins there are legit... whereas many are saying that its easier to make way to the list... What should one believe in  Huh

I don't get why it is so hard to ignore memecoins? I have been doing it for 10 years now, started with Doge, and been ignoring it when they got this famous as well. Since 2021 and Elon Musk tweeted about Doge, everyone and their grandmother is building a new meme, which shows that it is not a good project to invest into because all those people are just interested in your money and not interested in making you any money at all. Why would it be so hard to ignore them?

I mean I haven't put a single dime into any of them, and didn't had any hard time about it, I just simply do not check any memecoin, as soon as I see one, I just move on and not even take a look, I ignore it that way. Do that, ignore it, it is not hard.

It all depends on the project in question. In fact, there are a lot of meme coins on CMC right now. However, for early development, it is very normal for a coin not to be listed on CMC. However, if the project has been around for a long time, then it is questionable. Because, many projects have even released their coins on CMC before they are listed on any market.

You're putting way too much importance in listings. It's not that important, nor does it have/need to be a metric you'd use for the importance of a coin. Listing coins usually just takes time since whatever requirements they need usually just needs that, time, so it's easy for most projects to actually accommodate these requirements.

Still, if they're not on coinmarket yet, wait for a bit. Or check their road map, they may have some other schedule for it or are waiting for the product to actually be presentable to users.

There used to be those days when projects have to struggle to get listed on Coin market cap. In fact it used to be a bullish news for projects back then but things are now easier for projects. I think they just apply with some requirements and then they see it after some days. There are some projects that are even listed on market cap already without trading volume, so I'm not sure if this is really helpful tip to avoid a bad project.

Some projects lowkey back then don't get on coin market cap and Coingecko and if you have the luck to buy before listing, it will be in demand as people do look into this platform to buy their new coins but as I said, all these are things of the past, not longer way to justify good or bad projects.

not all coins listed on CMC are good coins, many coins listed on CMC end up in scams, because again CMC is a coin listing platform, so users only need to pay to list their coins there. and if the coin you invest in is not listed there, then at any time your coin can be listed there if the team of the coin pays and lets CMC verify their coin, and it shouldn't be a complicated process.

But we cant really be able to deny that when it comes to the situation on where majority or the community would really be always looking about being listed on coinmarketcap or coingecko specially into those
times on where it is really just that staring. Getting listed or be shown into these index type of sites will really be creating out such kind of impression that will be adding up that positivity towards the project.
Its true that this isnt something a guarantee that will really be having that success in speaking about coins value or into its price. This is why as an investor then you shouldnt really be that making yourself
having that kind of boost up whenever you've seen these things. Its always recommended that you should really be investing on something that you can afford to lose.
I think it makes sense for people to expect projects to be listed like that, I mean if you are not even listed there, then why would I invest into it?

Think about how small and not trusted a project have to be to not even get listed at this, I have worked with a few projects before and got them listed in like five days, imagine how easy it must be that someone like me, who is not like some special person, contacted them and got it listed in five days, sometimes as quickly as 20 minutes but that was later on when I knew a person there who could check it, also I got some rejected there too, so not like I knew a way to bribe them or anything, I just simply contacted them via telegram, made them check the project, and if they find it fine and not scam, they listed, if they were suspicious about scam then they rejected it, quickest was 20 minutes, slowest was 5 days and all the rejections were quicker than 5 days.

All of this experience I had, made me realize that I will never invest into anything that isn't listed there. First of all its easy, so if they are not listed there are two possible reasons, either they do not know how to get listed which means they are not good at all, any person with brain would know how to contact them, its literally on their page, or these places found it risky and that's why they never listed them.

Project owners can register their projects on coinmarketcap easily, as long as they meet the requirements given by the platform itself to developers who want to register their projects.
There are also many coins that are not on coinmarketcap but are on other platforms such as coingecko for example, you can search for it yourself.

Not necessarily the coin is listed unless the developer registers it there, while seeing the original or not you have to pay attention again, it could be a forgery, you can see the project description directly if it is available on a platform, and see the smart contract to verify that it is the correct coin or not.

right , Not all coins listed on Coinmarket are genuine, even though they are listed and have smart contracts, we must be vigilant and careful because there are many meme coins that have a big risk in terms of price.

In terms of popularity, of course altcoins are still far above average. This is what causes altcoins to become unpopular so they are not listed on CoinMarketCap. and I think this takes quite a long time. and it will depend on the interest of investors. If the project is promising enough, I think it is not impossible that it will become a good coin.

Not all new altcoins will be immediately listed on the coinmarketcap platform, obviously many people have wasted their time on meme coins which were only created to be like a lottery, if an altcoin wants to be included in the main CMC list it must meet the relevant requirements. There are also coins that can be counterfeited by joining the CMC which is discussed in a Telegram group even though it is just a trick to attract members. The coins listed on CoinMarketcap are official with the applicable regulations, you have to be more careful with new projects to see their development. just ignore it.

We all know that not all Altcoin Will be listed immediately, but it is usually scary when you invest in a coin that is not listed on the market cap it is something to be scared of because I feel that are listing on market cap or coingeko gives it a background or something to be traced back to,  How do you get information about them and associates exchange that are listed on little things we need to consider before investing in projects, that might easily get liquidated and run out of value. I feel one of the best ways to get people attention to buy a particular alt coin listed on CMC that way to get people attention and the interest will be at the peak, but the situation you can not even trace what is going on on the market, project my end up dying. The best thing is to get it listed on CMC then from there, they can actually make provisions to get it listed on all the popular exchanges that is one of the way to get people to buy on exchanges like KuCoin and binance so the team have to put things like this to their plan when working on a project. And not just jumping steps because they want to make money in crypto when you jump steps you will be the one losing.

What do you mean by "real deal"? It's just an indexer and everyone can be listed there if they want. It just takes some time. If coin or token is let's say month old and it isn't listed there, that's conserning, because it just means that devs aren't serious about it. But it's not like being listed in there is a sign of not being a scam. Most of the coins ever listed there have died or are slow rugged and living some zombie half life.

In short: being listed in coinmarketcap doesn't really mean anything, but not being listed means that it's a new project or that devs don't give a crap.

Never ever make yourself that be that going all in with new coins in the market. Although you cant really be able to stop someone on making those all in investment specially into those
early times or moments on which we know that when it comes into this aspect then you cant be able to avoid thinking about having those early entry on which if you do able to hit
up the right project then it would really be bringing out that huge profits and could possibly make you rich.

these coin lists sites are never a reliable source of information to begin with, they seek traffic and the only way of doing that is by endlessly listing more and more new coins, catering to the community of those coin and never getting too deep into reviewing each and every coin in their site.

in fact, there were several occasions where sites like CMC and coingecko just got the information about the coin they were listing wrong and they need months to just fix it.
though, despite all those mistakes, I think CMC listing is essential.

I would suggest you not to run for coins like this. These are not listed in coinmarketcap, which means that they have not fulfilled the criteria for listing. If they haven’t, then there might be some shady things involved. Yes, these types of coins can give good profits if bought early, but these coins also come with huge risks of turning into scams. Hence, if you love your hard-earned money, then it’s better to choose coins with good and big people supporting it.
And that is why he is here asking if it's possible for these coins to get listed on coinmarketcap but after reading a comment like yours, I think he will not proceed anymore on investing on them.

In my opinion, it is still not right to use it as a basis when judging if which coin we must invest in, I mean there are still scam coins and coins that are a failure despite them being listed in CMC. Maybe rumours are right that CMC have now became corrupt and their main requirements now are their huge listing fees. There might be trustworthy projects that are only lacking in budget at the moment in order to get listed in CMC. This is what I'm talking about earlier, that we shouldn't judge easily.

Sometimes for me, it seems to be the case that meme coins and some altcoins hog the limelight due to their volatility and possible quick profits and I even saw this in a lot of community and sites. Most of it also comes with a high risk and is mostly overlooked. I really like to point out that if a coin that is not listed on CoinMarketCap, it doesn't imply it's not worthless, only not very stable or healthy. Having a CoinMarketCap usually tells you that you're legit and competent, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can succeed in the long term, I got that some too in my portfolio but always be wary of investing in an anonymous fund. You need to consider the values, policy, and objective of the fund. It is always wise to exercise extra caution and focus more on funds with proven value and performance.

As a huge altcoin investor, I've seen where by some new projects got listed coingecko first and it took them months or even over a year to finally get listed on coinmarketcap, if I have to judge or advice any new projects coming out right now I would say that they should list on all coin trackers available, because fans most times prefer coinmarkcap over coingecko and very few people use both, you as a developer must crave for attention and support of the community, so listing on amt coin tracker available is the beet way to bring in new investors.

However, not being listed on CoinMarketCap doesn't mean the end for a cryptocurrency. It can still be traded on other exchanges and continue to grow its community and adoption. Some cryptocurrencies can even choose not to list on CoinMarketCap, instead they can opt in for decentralized exchanges or other platforms instead.

First let us check what Coinmarketcap is and what's its role in the industry,
Quote
CoinMarketCap is the world's most-referenced price-tracking website for cryptoassets in the rapidly growing cryptocurrency space. Its mission is to make crypto discoverable and efficient globally by empowering retail users with unbiased, high quality and accurate information for drawing their own informed conclusions.
https://coinmarketcap.com/about/

The coin is losing a lot if they fail to list their coin or token on Coinmarketcap. Its volume will be untraceable even with the history of the price of the coin /token; so many coins and tokens gained a lot of supporters and investors because Coinkmarketcap tracked and traced their volume and popularity in the market.

It's hard for a coin/token to gain potential investors if investors do not know how it performs in the market across all exchanges; they will have to check every exchange manually.

If An Altcoin is Not Listed on Coinmarketcap - Will it Never be?

As much as I have been told not to waste my time with meme coins, or stay away from certain altcoins, but its really hard to absolutely ignore them, especially when one meme coin hits the market every day.

Now I also know that whatever is listed on Coinmarketcap is the real deal... so if I am researching a coin and it is not listed there, are there any chances of it ever being listed... or should I just let it go?

What do you all have to say?

There is nothing to worry about whether a coin is listed in the coinmarketcap or not but if all those coins are listed or listed on a good exchange then you don't need to stress you can go ahead with all those coins without hesitation. If initially the coins are not listed in coinmarketcap and are listed on good exchanges then surely coinmarketcap will list them later. If any coin is in a good position and has a good future, then their listing is completed or confirmed only by applying to the coinmarketcap. Not all meme coins are risky to proceed with but there are some meme coins that have given people a lot of profit.

Its part of every developers to list their platform on at least one market aggregator, its totally a waste of money and time if they failed to list their token, its every developers task and obligation to their investors to see their coin land on market aggregators.

A market aggregator is just a market aggregator; what can make a coin or token into a real deal is their usage and platform, Even a project with no use case can be listed in the market, but it will not prove that they are worth investing in.
usage, platform and dedication of the developers are what defines a project and not just getting listed on market aggregator.

I understand your point of view, yes listing a coin on CoinMarket gives it some credibility but at the same time it can be a trap if a scam coin is listed and people who trust CoinMarket will think it is a good coin.

I am also not saying that we should pick a random contract and trade on a decentralized platform without any research, that is a big mistake, what I am saying is that we should do our own research and verify the coin even if it is listed on CoinMarket and not just trust it just because it is listed there.

DWYOR or DYOR must always be present at the investment stage, investors are not toddlers who must always be given good or best direction for them, after all, no one says that a project listed on Coinmarketcap is a good project, there are lots of projects that don't even have any development anymore. Coinmarketcap itself also has a disclaimer page which states that they only provide as accurate information as they can, all investment decisions are up to you.

There are many altcoins listed on CMC but it does not guarantee that they are completely safe. Coin Market Cap only provides a place and does not provide a 100% guarantee that every alt that passes to be listed there is verified. At any time a crypto project can commit fraud.

I think at any time altcoins can register to be on CMC as long as the requirements are met. But for altcoins that are not yet registered does not mean 100% fraudulent projects, what I mean now is that most altcoins prioritize being registered on centralized exchanges rather than being on CMC, keep in mind that in researching altcoins everyone has their own standards for categorizing whether or not they are worth investing in. The point is you have to be independent to research starting from social media details, smart contracts, other official channels that can indeed be found easily.

Op, those people told you what you need to know as a newbie, but since you are finding it hard to take their advice, when you learn it the hard way, you will remember what you have been told about meme coins and altcoins.

You're wrong; what's listed on CoinMarketCap is not 100% safe, and if you grow with this perspective, you will easily lose your money. Coinmarketcap is just a platform where different cryptocurrencies are listed so that their holders can easily see the information about their tokens. Any coin or token can be listed on Coinmarketcap if it meets the criteria for being listed there. Always DYOR to be informed to avoid unexpected losses.

Totally! It's essential to judge the project itself first, then the platforms and the exchanges it's listed on.

The logic there is simple: if you don't have CMC, Coingecko, Geckoterminal, Dexscreener, and Crypto.com, don't invest just for the safety of your fund. It's different if the crypto you want to buy is listed on the platforms I mentioned.

I think it's really an advantage when I'm listed in those; I'm just like that, and when I see that it's listed, the daily volume is good, and the market cap is high, I won't hesitate to invest, even though I'm willing to take a risk too.

CMC is a good point to start your research about any coin but it should not be the only point to consider while you are making your mind on investing in a coin. Not all the coins listed on CMC are worthy for investment as there any scores of coins on CMC with unknown market cap and 24 hour volume.
But if a coin is not found on any sites which you have mentioned (i.e. CMC, Coingecko, Geckoterminal, Dexscreener, and Crypto.com) then it's better to not invest energies in researching that coin. Top 20 or 30 alts on CMC are considered safe for investment. DYOR.

Well there is not alot of new alt coin I am going to be buying now. But if I do see a project that does interest me then yes i will check coinmarketcap.

If this coin is not listed on there, I am not going to invest in it. There is so many other coins we can see listed we dont need to invest in a project that can be a 'rug pull' or some scam project.

All of projects would really be trying out to get listed on CMC or CG on which we know that these platforms or sites does have their criterias before listing a particular coin/token
on which it would really be mostly talking or speaking about on a specific volume on a certain coin. I dont know if there would really be some listing fee to be given but i do assume that its
really that something to be that standard on about fees and other similar aspect. On the moment that you do ask about getting listed then you could really be able to assume that its a
good one because they do hit up a particular criteria but in speaking about success and profitability then it would really be always that remain a question.

Never ever make yourself that believe that you could really be able to make some assurance that you are dealing with the right project since its gets listed on Coinmarketcap.
Always bare in mind that these things arent that a solid indication that the projects you've been dealing are really that having the potential. Almost gets listed into this place
as long it do hit the criteria or able to comply then pretty sure you would see those names but just like been said that it wont really be that giving out assurance in terms of success
and profitability.

CoinMarketCap has certain criteria that needs to be met before listing a cryptocurrency.
These criteria are things like market capitalization, liquidity, trading volume, community support and compliance with regulatory requirements by the government. Crypto currencies that meet all these requirements are mostly the ones listed.

Now I also know that whatever is listed on Coinmarketcap is the real deal...

This is a misconception since it’s very easy to be listed on coinmarketcap and coingecko by just applying for listing. Some project just expedite by paying an insider to list immediately. So even shitcoins can be listed on cmc not only the real deal project.

It still depends on the project. For example if the project is existing for a year but still not listed on coinmarketcap while it’s already trading on DEX then you can assume that this project is dead since they are not prioritizing listing assuming the trading volume is very low.

Being listed on coinmarketcap doesn't show a total reliability or guaranteed you to be trusted and legitimate, yes there are projects that has been listed here that people made lot of profits from but after some years they weren't doing well again and they ended up folding up, exchange delisting them because they weren't meeting up their trading volume. Exchange like binance doesn't waste time to delist such coin from their platform to secure investors funds.

There are some projects that are not yet listed on CMC but are pretty trading well on exchange but you won't see them until they have the required quality to get listed on CMC, if they don't have the requirements it could be hard to list as well. So you must not only rely on coin listed in CMC to trade just that people has this mindset that coin listed here is more trusted.

If An Altcoin is Not Listed on Coinmarketcap - Will it Never be?

A project cannot just be listed on Coinmarketcap when nearly established it will take some time and must meet certain requirements to be listed. If not listed yet it can get listed in future and if a project wants to develop then it will be part of their plan to meet the requirements and get listed on there. People see projects listed on Coinmarketcap as projects with potentials.

As much as I have been told not to waste my time with meme coins, or stay away from certain altcoins, but its really hard to absolutely ignore them, especially when one meme coin hits the market every day.

Truth be told altcoins are not very reliable even though they can be profitable at times, investing in them is very risky especially for long term holders. After making some profit I wouldn’t advise you keep hanging around them because most of them turn out to be shitcoins after sometime. Being listed on coinmarketcap doesn’t guarantee anything, some tokens are listed there and still end up with no much value. Before investing in altcoins always endeavors to research about them first.

It is not necessary for a coin to be listed on CoinMarketCap to be good or available for trading, it can be listed on other altcoin listing sites other than CoinMarket.

Also some meme coins can be traded instantly on DEX by contract address without being listed, some people think that listing on CoinMarketCap makes a coin good and this is not true at all, there are a lot of scam coins listed on CoinMarket.

I don't agree with your opinion, a coin/token needs to be listed on Coinmarketcap if they want to be a solid coin/token. Coinmarketcap has special criteria & a slightly complicated process for registering a coin/token, you can see it here. Even though we can trade coins/tokens without requiring Coinmarketcap listing, the fact is that Coinmarketcap can have a good impact on projects, they can provide better publicity, make a project more easily recognized and then will increase the MC even higher which has an impact on the coin/token price.

But OP why would you want to invest in a token or coin that is not yet listed in coinmarketcap? basically I haven't seen a coin that has not been listed in coinmarketcap become a thing so if you feel that your interest in a coin that is not listed yet you can take the risk but for my limited knowledge I think almost all potential coins are always listed on CMC because it seems to be the home or all coins.

The project team does pay coinmarketcap and coingecko to list their coin on their site, so any project can decide to do that at any moment, but you should know that the coin being listed on coinmarketcap and coingecko doesn’t guarantee that the coin is going to perform well in the market, so don’t think all the coins listed on coinmarketcap are going to perform well.
Perhaps all coins listed in coinmarketcap or coingecko are always considered to at least go a long way than ones that are not listed on any of this platform but of course it doesn't mean its guaranteed to do well or become of any value and that's same reason fraud or scam coins even get listed on those platforms.

Now see this becomes confusing again... the other day i inquired about CoinGecko and I was assured that all coins listed there are genuine... but it seems all may be not!!

Hence, if you love your hard-earned money, then it’s better to choose coins with good and big people supporting it.

so I think coinmarketcap still plays a role in giving us assurance that at least the data shown in their website are reliable enough to be trusted.

If you buy meme coins when it has been listed in top sites like Coinmarketcap, Binance, etc, it's better to stay away since you're high likely will buy at the peak. The earlier you bought the coins, the better reward you will earn.

Airdrop > presale > listing on swaps > listing on small CEX > listing on middle CEX > listing on big CEX.

Most people bought when it listed on swaps or small CEX.

it depends, I think if the dev submitted the listing form it will be under the review of the CMC team and whether it got listed or not it will be up to the CMC team themselves however if the dev isn't trying to list their coin in CMC in the first place it won't get listed I guess unless the coin is booming and somehow become hot topic.

but I usually just don't bother with coin that didn't get listed in CMC because if i'm being frank, the fact that the coin didn't even get listed in CMC while there are other shitty coins getting listed there means the coin is just the lowest quality and probably not even worth talking or investing.

There's half truth to it and let's say that more than half of the cryptos listed there aren't real deal. They're majority of shitcoins. Or if my metrics is wrong, it's likely that majority of the coins listed there are going to cost you money. As of today, there is 2.4M cryptos listed there so I stand to be corrected that it could be 1% of the cryptos there are real deal.

so if I am researching a coin and it is not listed there, are there any chances of it ever being listed... or should I just let it go?
Yes, there's a chance of being listed there. And just so you know, there are projects listed there but lacks of information so if you just play by that rules of being searchable on coinmarketcap, there's plenty of it but lack information.

If you already know the risk involved in it, then you should be able to avoid it. No matter how many meme coins hit the market, if you don’t want to put your money in them, you will restrict yourself. If you have any money to invest, just rush and invest it in bitcoin or other strong altcoins which we know, rather than planning to invest in meme coins, which at the end most people do lose their money, and few are the ones that do make money from meme coin investment, and it’s not always often.

If the project's coin team adheres to the Coinmarketcap listings criteria that you can find via this [link], then their currency can be listed. You can wait until it is listed on CMC, as it may indicate one of the positive signs that the project has passed these standards. Still, it is not conclusive evidence of the necessity of the currency's reliability or its team's legitimacy. A currency can pass one of these standards by being listed on one of the scam exchange platforms. Thus, you should not rely entirely on CMC, and you should conduct comprehensive research, as currencies may be listed there automatically and for free, and there may not be rigorous vetting of the currency by the CMC team.

As much as I have been told not to waste my time with meme coins, or stay away from certain altcoins, but its really hard to absolutely ignore them, especially when one meme coin hits the market every day.
And if you don't ignore it and end up losing your capital, will you be happy about that? These meme coins are high-risk, and fraud is prevalent in this sector, so you should give them significant consideration, especially when more established altcoins are in the market.

Obviously its only a project that is still at the preliminary stage that may not register on coinmarketcap, most of the new projects and existing ones will be found on CMC because that is the most common used platform where you can easily research about any token or coin, though any coin that is existing will definitely be found on it, but if not, then i think there is more to that coin in which needs to be checked on before one can go for it on any crypto platform.

A new project can never be on Coinmarketcap or Coingecko. Later they may be listed if the project become successful and can become the next pump and dump coins that people will later abandon and go for other new ones to gamble with.

Some coins will never reach Coinmarketcap and Coingecko because they are not successful. But some listed there can become unsuccessful later.

Now I also know that whatever is listed on Coinmarketcap is the real deal... so if I am researching a coin and it is not listed there, are there any chances of it ever being listed... or should I just let it go?
Gamble with small amount of money that you can use to gamble with these coins. They are very risky and can not be considered as anything else other than gambling.

If the coin has been existing for long or some months and not listed there, it is a shit coin. If the coin is listed there, check its market cap. Also know that altcoins are very volatile and still see them as gambling.

Better don’t allow those things to deceive you. Any project can get listed on coinmarketcap; even when they are not yet trading, they can apply, pay the fee, submit the necessary information, and get listed.

There is no guarantee that anything listed on coinmarketcap is the real deal. A lot of scam projects have listed their coins on coinmarketcap before they existed in the market. Some are still active,  for example.

And to answer your question based on the title, tokens and coins that are not listed on CoinMarketCap can still be listed there in no time. If the project wants to get listed there, they just have to follow the due process and get listed on an active trading exchange too.
