@OP: Depends how much he was offered. Everyone has a price - and I have no doubt if offered enough he would be willing to move over. It's just that I'm doubtful anyone would be willing to offer that much is all.

If we look upto Bitcoin as an open source project, it wont be a good idea to tie up Gavin for its success. As long as any dev from across the globe is developing the client maintaining the basic features of the protocol, it is accepted. Rest is dependent on the community. Whatever u say about the Bitcoin Foundation, the truth is their client is till date the most reliable one.
So, rather than offering higher package to Gavin, u may think of paying the same amount to 10 Indian/Pak/Bangladesh/Sri Lankan developer to develop the same thing from ground up. Eventually u are going to get an untouched community behind u as well.
TBF is here as they are serving a community for free (Donations are given by few). Create another foundation and serve the community... U can uproot TBF or at least compete.

The main intent of the foundation, originally anyway, was just to create a formal way for Gavin and other core devs to get a salary. From what I remember, anyway. Modeled off the Linux foundation I believe. I'm just curious if another group offering to pay him more would be successful in luring him away from the current foundation. I'm guessing not... but everyone has their price.

Gavin was, and is fine financially, with his skill sets in high demand, so no worries there. Although I've been a tad critical of him, until something concrete manifests itself, he's probably trustworthy, putting the CIA, et al. meetings aside.

i think you find that any plans on head hunting the main bitcoin dev. should now be head hunting vladimir (wladimir) whoever the guy is that has replaced gavin.

I was wondering if Gavin had some allegiance to the Bitcoin Foundation, or if it's more of a free market type of thing going on here. If people don't like the current foundation it would seem the obvious choice would be to set one up that offers Gavin more. The foundation's power really boils down to having the developers on their side.
Personally, I'm neither for nor against TBF at this point, but I'm curious as to what could happen in the future.
