How long do you think I would have to wait until I break even or see profits? I bought nearly all my coins near ATH, unfortunately.  Embarrassed

For example - I bought NEBL when it was trading at around $48. It is now $14.04. I bought SUB when it was trading at around $3.25. It is now $0.54. Bought DRGN when it was trading around $5! It's now $1.41. Everytime I see portfolio, I really wonder how much longer time it will take for me to at least break even or see some green. Sometimes, I get worried they will never recover. Should I be worried? Realistically, how long do you think I might have to wait to see some turnaround? Thanks  Huh

Some of the coins in your portfolio like NEBL may never recover.
DRGN and SUB may be will recover in 6-12 months to ATH levels.

Count those as frozen active and stop looking at prices. Check it in few month. In meantime choose some good ICO's to make some fresh profits.

Feel bad for you, but have hope man!
I had bought some coins on December and was really greedy to sell on Jan at all time high.
Now just waiting. I have a feeling that we can see the same like before summer or so.

I did the same (partly, had some previous investments, but the majority of my money went in at the wrong time)

What i did in meanwhile

1)Reallocate your portfolio to projects you truly believe in.  Most of the alts are at a similar loss comparred to their ATH (1/2 - 1/3 or even more) so switching positions is not the same as selling at a loss.  Get rid of coins you either dont understand, or don't believe they actually have a bright future.  Ofcourse you can miss opportunities, but one should at least understand and believe in what he is investing.

2)Try to accumulate more by surfing the waves (if you have time to trade).  sell them high, buy back low, this way you'll strengthen your position without investing more money.

3) Buy some more, at least you'll average down the price per coin.  Wait for what people call a bad day, i refer to those days as opportunities.

Or, like previous posters said, accept the loss and sell.  At least you learned something.  You can always come back one day, but you risk facing a similar situation that way.

Good luck!

IMO you should learn the basics before accepting such decisions regarding buying cryptos on ATH. Now you have two choice: 1) Sell everything for low price and quit game 2) Wait and HODL till market turns to the green way Wink

If it is affordable for you - don't sell at a loss and just hold, the price will grow. I think by the end of this spring we will see same growth as in 2017.

A good piece of advise, don’t panic because the market are starting to bounce now the question is if its a good coin you are still lucky. This is the result of an unexperienced person that wants to make profit easily in highly volatile market, again education is still the best investment after all keep your eye on it.

you bought at ATH but who can know that it was ATH? In truth the crypto market is governed by technical analysis traders sell or buy on supports and resistances but they are not always right because the real investors like you and I buy by that we believe in this or that corner. It is difficult to avoid FOMO and wait for the price to fall. It is believed that it will not go down and sometimes it is true for months the prices are in a bullish movement and it is difficult to wait for it to come down again. We feel like we are losing an opportunity. I think you will not make the same mistake next time. I bought $ 1,000 ETH thinking it would not go down and make a small profit later on, unfortunately it was a mini crash and ETH fell below $ 700. Now I HOLD. But hey it's ETH not a shitcoin ... Same for the VEN, I planted and even the announcement of February 26 did not reassemble this token. But as these are corners that have the future I'm just waiting ... Now we have to expect to see the next regulatory measures as it's foolish traders will imagine that real investors are going to be scared they'll imagine all down and self-create this decline premonitory way. So wait for the mini crash of March to buy the corners you like and sell your Altcoins bought at the ATH at the time of recovery!

Don't worry if the market goes on bullrun all coins will set their new ATH all you have to do is to be patient and all of those coins you've mention that you've buy are really has potential in the future so I would suggest that you hold them for long term like a year or 2 or more. Patience is the key here in crypto world that's why just continue on your daily lives and don't worry much about your coins holding.

Here's something I would like to say.
Crypto world exploded in 1 month which made everything to go up 2x-100x.
It is currently down for sure but don't you think that month is coming again?
I am pretty sure, it wouldn't even give anyone any chance to buy before skyrocketing again.

The  best lesson my father taught me - Only invest the money that you are not using. Period.

I bought XRP at $3 but I really don't care when it is going to go up again. Be like a bear and hibernate totally.
Focus on other jobs and find a hobby to distract your mind.

That's such unfortunate mate, you just hits the FOMO jackpot  Grin
But dont worry, give it a time.
Just please next time do your research better, so you will get the correct/ reasonably entry point to the market.
Otherwise, you bought again the pump session and when you have it all they already leave the market.
Good luck with your HODL!  Wink

If the project you are investing in is developing and you believe in it, this is good possibility for investing more, especially if price falls like it is described. I did the same for example, thought only 2 of my 14 coins did fall significantly.

Buying altcoins at ATH ( all time high) is the worst mistake that one can make. Buying BTC at ATH is something i can understand but for altcoins??? Completely foolish attempt.

It is a classic mistake that people often make. But it is by making mistakes, that you learn the most.
As Warren Buffett would say: buy when the prices are dropping, not when they are rising and reaching new ATH's.

You are not the only one in this state, some of us too buy at the top and the price has dipped greatly, that is why I always advice people to always invest in project they believe in long term, no one can give you a definite answer but always learn that it is better not to buy the FOMO, because there will always be a time to buy the dip

I dont think that you have to wait for a longer time. Maybe 2 or 3 months and we will see an nice fomo at the altcoins. The most people are dumping at the bottom and they will buy back higher soon!

To correct the situation I can advise you to buy the same coins on the fall, to average the price. When the markets starts to grow, you will get a profit faster.

It might be a couple of years. As long as your coins remain listed on the exchanges (which is by no means guaranteed, they delist non-performing coins often), then someone down the line will pump it.

If the coin gets delisted, then it's over - the price can't rise if no-one is trading it.

Hopefully this was a lesson not to get caught up in hype and to research trends before going in. We've had these alt hypes before, most notably in Dec 2013-Jan 2014, when lots of people got burned.

Take it as a good lesson. We all went through that at some point. If you stay strong and hodl you'll congratulate yourself. You should be fine by summer, in my opinion.

I agree.
All you can do is hold. Close positions is take the loss. The market will rise and significantly, since we are still at the beginning of the way. Just hold. Months, maybe more than a year, no one knows.

If you can afford it, sell in loss and next time when u buy altcoin think , think & think before.
It's longrun for recovery but in 0.5yrs u can make good money by day trading.

Another option: Wait, wait.

You should but everyone that bought crypto at peak will have the same feels like you dude. How they have bought a lot of crypto at peak but it just take a month to the price of crypto to get plunged a lot.
I think that depends on the trend of crypto itself. But i believe that will come again at the middle of year. I was speculating another big waves will come soon(Q3-Q4).
Remember just try to invest that you afford to lose.

This is a bit unfortunate. But not too unfortunate in that the perfect time will still come that the previous ATHs of all the altcoins and Bitcoin will be surpassed. Insofar as my own speculation is concerned, June is too far for these ATHs to get surpassed. So for now, all you need to do is to wait for that time. It might happen in March or April. The most probable thing here is that it will happen in the first half of the year. Just do not sell them or you are like throwing away profits.

If you are active trader you can sell the alts and buy btc as btc is looking bullish from here, then sell btc at peak and then buy alts from the dip and you will recover quickly but the process can take many weeks, if you are not a trader you should hold for few months to recover.

I bet most new comers bought right at the peak, most people have to learn the hard way but if you stick it out you will recover your losses eventually. it should bounce back by summer maybe sooner, you just never know.
This has been happening and many newbies always buying their coins aND tokens at a very high price and most time in just a month or week they see their coins getting dump. I bought stratis and tron last month and of a truth there are now at lose because I bought them at a very high price. Crypto coins markets has been in a bearish trend since last month and we hope it recover soonest.

I was in the same situationI started trading altcoins back in may 2017 when almost all of my coins were at ATH. And it took me few months to break even as i made the mistake of going all into altcoins and not keeping bitcoin in my portfolio.

So if you have BTC in your portfolio try to avaerage out on some of your coins this way you will be able to get out of those coins sooner.

It looks like you picked the wrong time to buy, but it's not just your fault. Yes, after the massive recession, the price of all alts has decreased threefold at least, and now we have to wait either for summer or for the end of the year and hope that everything will return to its previous indicators to begin with.

Could be today, tommorow, the next after tommorow, weeks, months, or even years. No one know exactly when the price will be back or recovered. It's hard choice anyway, you could just cut loss and re-invest on other token or let your investment stay like that for longterm

Yeah or it could be never, most startup in real life will fail and only a few will succeed. I believe we are in a bubble like the dotcom bubble, only a few good coins are going to be the next amazon.

No one can tell you when that things to happen again, it might be this year or even longer but if you are holding great coins don’t be scared because everything will be back to normal on time. But you must learn first on how to control emotion and to trade properly so this thing will not happen again to you.

I think you are inexperienced to invest in new altcoins in the crypto market. I think you need to improve your knowledge of crypto and you will invest better. But new people should invest in NEO, Bitcoin, ETH. that's 3 altcoins you get a lot of profit when buying them. Especially when the market is red, you can buy them cheap and sell at high prices.

I would not sell at a loss if I were you. In fact I wouldn't sell at anything less than a x2.

Crypto hasn't had its real boom yet since it's still under 1 trillion market cap. By all means transfer your bags between different coins that are also at their ATL (don't speculate on new ICOs or FOMO on pumps). But I wouldn't recommend cashing out at a loss. Be patient.

Did you read the new bitcoin.com article on altcoins? They said that last year 46% of altcoin fail, so in my opinion if he keeps on holding maybe it will go even lower but this is crypto so maybe it will pump up. But holding forever is not a good idea, I think lots of altcoin will fail and go to zero.

it's crypto.  Never.  or tomorrow.

Start researching market cap and how much it would have to be to see gains on your coins.
Look at the circulating supply and total supply of coins.

When bitcoin was closing in on $20k,  the market cap was less than it was in January 5th or 6th when all the altcoins started spiking.    Think of it like a tsunami wave.  All this pent up money flooded the altcoin market, then backed out to the top coins, and then left the market altogether.

So, if you are in it for the long term and really believe in it.  Put them in a wallet and forget about them and come back in a few years.  Maybe buy in a new position much lower.

Consider it a very expensive lesson learned.  I've had a few too.
Exactly this ^^
Too maximize gains in this market you need to look at the bitcoin dominance cycle, it's even more important than what coin you buy. People ask me how I continue to increase my holdings and when I tell them they just don't listen lol. Its amazing what you learn when your in this market for a few years.
