What do you all think would happen if Satoshi came out of the woodwork and started posting on here again?  Would the price sky rocket, or plummet? Or no effect at all?

Short term huge effect
Long term normal effect just like when Gavin posts XD
I mean we listen but its business as usual (well except for that one time in 2013) when the blockchain forked mean whistle ...
Then we scream at Gavin and the devs to fix it lol.

Bonus Question: Nope

First of all: affect. Not effect. This really bugs me a lot, lately.
But yeah, well I don't know. I bet he's still active, he supposedly posted that message that he's not Dorian Nakamoto. I guess it won't do much to the price, though...
I disagree. I think if the person who created Bitcoin and who has substantial amounts of intimate knowledge of how bitcoin works were to again become involved in bitcoin then more people would likely be interested in bitcoin and would be more inclined to purchase bitcoin.

Irregardless, I think the general bitcoin community could care less about Satoshi anymore. So, he shows up - is that really going to make some big-traders change there positions and cause that large a Bitcoin price swing?

On a more serious note, most Satoshi news is probably going to be bad for the price. Right now people are trying to forget that one person may literally own a million coins (give or take a bunch) - if Satoshi comes back into existence and there is even a shred of evidence he may sell some of the coins, expect madness.

Of course, I don't expect Satoshi to let that happen. I personally suspect that he has already sold a fairly large number of coins in order to support himself and profit over the years. We just don't know those addresses, because we all have this extremely defined picture of what a "Satoshi wallet" must look like. Ever consider that he may have just plopped a nice amount of coins in a couple wallets (instead of just leaving 1 block in each wallet), like most users?

FURring bitcoin up since 1762
Don't think much will happen as Bitcoin doesn't need Satoshi to develop itself.

He dropped the code in the wild and left, and look where it stands now Smiley

I believe the main reason for him to leave Bitcoin to the community was to stress the distributed and unregulated kind of Bitcoin. He just wanted to put down the ground-rules and after that leave the development to the community. He effectively faded out of the spotlight gradually over a certain timespan.

Price would go up in short term since Bitcoin is backed by media publicity.

You're never too old to think young.
I think Satoshi was/were long gone underground before Bitcointalk even started.
This forum used to be forum.bitcoin.org. Same database; the https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/satoshi-3 user is the author of http://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

Thanks for clearing that up. I was under the impression that Satoshi only posted at The Cryptography Mailing List at metzdowd.com.

My bad.

And I think the price would drop if he showed up. Bitcoin is not about one person, and if Satoshi re-appeared, we'd have an even more difficult time educating the thick-headed public about that.

Bonus question: Would Satoshi adopt phrases like HODL and to the moon?

...

No.

To the moon is from dogecoin , and  HODL it is from a bitcoin user here in the forum ( but I don't remember its username).

Since his email was compromised, people might wonder if he was the true satoshi.

Also I think his account is locked

When someone suddenly becomes rich they often find themselves inundated with begging letters. No doubt Satoshi would be inundated with begging posts.

I'll get things started.  I think if he/she/they returned there would be a sense of euphoria in most bitcoiners and a buying frenzy would ensue. Bums from all ends of the earth would come to the forums begging him for free coins.
