Once Thymos dies it only means he was a human nothing parts of immortality in him. Backups is belong to his masterpiece as the first ever Rabbi in bitcointalk.
He came from dust so he will turn to dust also. Maybe in his coffin it is possible to have some bitcoins and cryptos.  Cheesy Cheesy

I would attempt to send flowers and a nice note to his family explaining how he touched my life, hoping that I would be invited to pay my respects to such an influential and respected member of the community.

someone have a backup ?

This is the worst question I have seen till date on this forum, why would you even think of such an unfortunate event to take place, I wish Theymos a long life, as he's a visionary because of whom we're able to use this forum. Also to answer I believe theymos is really smart, he has faced site attacks, and yet he has managed always to get the site back and up, trust me he'll have prepared for this.

@theymos is not stupid. We have seen several events in the past where this site was attacked and we survived every one of them, so that has to give you an indication of what knowledge and experience is backing this site.

Most big sites like this have multiple options for redundancy, if something goes wrong and I think @theymos is clever enough to cover most of these disasters.   Sad

@theymos also mentioned a new forum that is being developed, so this might also replace this forum if something goes terribly wrong.  Huh

Of course it is when you test the contingency plan that you discover if everything is under control, and I guess the plan would include the absence of @theymos and/or @cyrus.

It's like the fire department, you have to do tests.

Thanks for the link.

I am sure that someone that is well versed in Bitcoin and is human, which means that one of the few certainties we have is death, will no doubt have made provisions for the continuation of this forum. I think that is such a valuable digital asset that heirs may have a fight about it, so possibly there is not an easy solution for it.

Yes, there’s a backup of @theymos in a cold storage wallet, kept safe in the same facility as Walt Disney… Kidding…

Apart from there being two admins as @iasenko pointed out, the site has daily backups, or at least had some time ago as a regular practice (see Bitcoin Forum Bitcointalk.org Receives and Answers First Subpoena from DOJ).

The referenced article claims:
Quote
<…> Theymos clarified that all posts, whether deleted or edited, are “always saved forever.” PMs also end up in the daily database backup, which may or may not be kept forever, while IP addresses are only logged if you post <…>
Of course it is when you test the contingency plan that you discover if everything is under control, and I guess the plan would include the absence of @theymos and/or @cyrus.

There are two admins at the moment, (I wish them a long life). In case of emergency, there is always someone to take over.

A backup of the servers the forum runs at? I am definitly sure that they are backuped.
But I am not sure if the ranking of the mods to follow theymos as "master of bitcointalk" is clear ;-)
