Topic: if Tik-Tok banned in US, why not X-Twitter banned in Europe and the world? (Read 240 times)

I think there is a clear case to ban X-tweeter in Europe, exactly for the same reasons Tik-Tok may end up banned in the US. It is being used by a foreign government, it is biased and his owner is trying to dissolve the UK pairlament.
This is not their only reason, they say tiktok is a personal security threat because China may access their citizens’ data. Very worried logic I must say. I don’t think China is exactly doing that but then again China has literally so much things banned in their country. They have all their own version of almost every app that the rest of the world is using. Both US and China are worried about each other.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter because Tiktok wasn’t banned after all.

The ban was cancelled by trump thanks to him, this has been an issue that the US government has been deliberating on for over a year. They said TikTok is a national security risk due to how it's been used to by fraudsters to scam US citizens. Apart from the fact that it also helps people get entertained people make money off it, it's not as complicated as a channel like YouTube and so on, that's why people are now taking advantage of it. It was surprising to see that a lot of the citizens of the US protested against the ban, this means that they are gaining a lot from it.

The funny part was it got back in less than 24 hours.

Tik Tok's official reason for ban is privacy violations. Twitter seems to be much less interested than spying on users than Google, Apple, and Facebook. I'm fairly sure some big tech names like Google have actually gotten them selves in billions of dollars of fines because of privacy violations.
There is so much to say about privacy. Many apps are violating the global users of them by violating security through allowing mics and cameras to agree with their terms and conditions. I think there's a deeper reason behind that and we can have an idea why these are happening and even wars, it's all about resources and mostly, money/revenue.

X (former twitter) is even more manipulated ever since Elon Musk acquired it. Do you know that it has been known that twitter has been tweeting posts that are in favor of trump and censoring posts that contain negative comments about the president trump before the elections. We never know how social media especially X was indirectly promoting and helping trump election campaign. So it is not only about privacy manipulation, but also the misuse of the platforms by the owners of those platform.

In some time, we may find Elon Musk buying tiktok too, don't think it will be good for the interest of everyone as Elon buying such big platforms and suppressing the opinion against his interests.

While Musk is much better known for combating against disinformation than spreading it by his purchase of Twitter, and promoting truths inconvenient to his competing monied interests by his purchase of Twitter, there is a very big difference. As for destabilizing foreign governments, I've never seen any evidence of that. Of course it destabilizing today's governments is generally a good thing, as the last thing we need is an institution which believes it can lie, cheat, and steal with impunity  have a stable structure. However, Musk didn't do that by any evidence I've ever seen.

Unfortunately Tik-Tok ban is temporary, just until Trump will oficially return to the White House. I would be ahppy if it would be banned worldwide, orat least in Europe. It makes people stupid as their brains just rot while they're using it. When I see some trends or challenges on Tik-Tok, I think - what's wrong with people nowadays and how low our society can go?
Agree about Twitter, if Musk will continue to play these games, I think that Twitter should be banned in Europe. But I don't believe that they will do it.

I'm not a US citizen and I don't really care about whatever they decide to do but what you point out here is just a pure fact. Most at times, I wonder whether people on Tiktok are just another breed of individuals entirely not from this planet. There's actually no analogy to justify the same people on other social media are the same on Tiktok. Perhaps, people automatically behave abnormal the moment they register on Tiktok because I can't describe the kind of content being displayed there. I don't know how people are comfortable using it thou but it sucks and irritating to me. As for Musk and his X, he's over using it to his advantage and it is very wrong.

This is a negative thought, because TikTok is a site where there is nothing good to learn! Rather, in all the countries of the world where it is used, they are busy day by day to show their position in front of people! If someone does not even have food in their house, they are buying new clothes just to TikTok! Because they have to dress smart in front of people! People now want to show their kindness to people! Because they have to upload videos on TikTok, the topic is funny but sad.

He said he wants a US firm to own 50% of the company which is a fair deal. I hope ByteDance will gladly accept this goodwill from Donald Trump.
Yea this is  very good deal only If ByteDance would agree to it. This deal would address most of the major concerns of the US. It would give the US the chance to control TikTok operations and monitor the data there which will solve the security concerns. The US is a very big market for Tiktok,  it would be better for ByteDance to accept the deal instead of leaving the US completely. Tiktok in the US is beneficial to both the citizens of US and ByteDance.

In the end, politics is local and most of these announcements made by the government are politically driven. One would never thought of America banning TikTok inasmuch as it contributes to its economic growth but some of these announcements also go to tell you that most of our policies and government issues are politically driven and the interest of the government usually appears before that of the people.
Just try to be in the good books of the government  else, they would wake up one morning and ban you from their jurisdiction. Once you are their friend, your business is safe.

Goodwill my ass. Trump is simply taking control over Tik Tok as part of his media control operation: Facebook and TweeteX remove fact-checking, Apple has to pay, TweeteX is controlled by the government via Elon Musk and now the government will control Tik Tok by means of some other multi-billionaire government linked company.

This is an assault, not a show of "goodwill". There is never such a thing.

Tiktok returns after 24 hours of being banned in the US, guess who is the super hero here? Trump! The same person and the very first person who called for the ban of Tiktok, now he is working hard to ensure Tiktok stays, what changed now?. Politics is indeed a funny game. Congratulations to all those in America who can now access their tiktok accounts, consider this an inauguration gift from Trump.

What are politicians going to do all day if they can't post on Twitter?
Grin Grin This politicians will make sure none gets banned. This is politics.

But it is also wrong to try to compare TikTok's ban in the US with X ban in the Europe because these are two different companies providing different types of contents and services to the world.

The political war and technological competition between the United States and China are the causes of these . China has restricted the growth of Facebook and Google in the country over similar national security concerns , and the United States could do the same with Chinese technology products . In my opinion ,  this is more of a battle for technological dominance than a national security issue as both claim .

Meanwhile, the relationship between the United States and its European allies is not that tense and bad, so there is no reason for Europe to ban X . Even without X , Elon can still use other media to criticize anyone he wants because that is considered freedom of speech .

Well, there is the same reason to ban X-Tweeter in EU than there is to ban Tik-Tok in US - It is property of the government (Elon is now in the government), and it is being used to promote the US government agenda, not only by Elon's tweets, but also by the algorithm.

Somebody gotta tell me is this is not Tik-Tok but from the US.

Donald Trump is a businessman so he knows how much revenue the US can lose if TikTok leaves the US. Yeah, national security is very important but there are still ways to monitor the Chinese company and ensure that the security of the US is not compromised. Trump is giving them a 90-day grace period for them to come up with a deal with a US company. He said he wants a US firm to own 50% of the company which is a fair deal. I hope ByteDance will gladly accept this goodwill from Donald Trump.

My personal opinion about tiktok in my country is not a good one. Although,hi personally do not have a tiktok account but I heard people especially girls do alot of immoral things on tiktok live.
Every platform can be used for both moral and immoral things. You cannot stop the building of hotels because some of them are used for prostitution. TikTok has so many educational materials and content creators use it as a major source of revenue.

I read a news where it was said that Trump is ready to give 90 days grace to tik tok in US. I don't know how true this news it but I do think that Trump won't just stand for everything the former government was against.

The government of the US has been making things difficult for Tik-Tok as it is officially considered as belonging to a foreign nation's government, namely the Chinese Comunist Party. To be honest, it seems true in terms of facts, and the platform has the potential to show content that may be biased of provides a propagandistic image of China.

But, what about X-Tweetter? Elon Musk is now part of the US government and he has been know to use X-Tweeter to try to de-estabilise foreign governments, and spread half-truths and disinformation:

I don't think comparing USA-Chims relationz with the USA-UK relations is completely accurate to explain or make a case for Twitter/X to get banned in the United Kingdom or all the European Union, to be honest. The Chinese Communist Party is more a direct and obvious threat against western democracy than Twitter could be (at least in the short term).
Still, I won't deny how dangerous Twitter could get in terms of disinformation and allowing extremism to go around and influence over the perception of reality of certain people (who may not even be suitable to have access to internet anyways).
Also, I has caught my attention how some months ago Twitter was being actively use to badmouth Haiti, due to their political and security crisis, some racism going blatant.

Politicians have banned TikTok because they hate the constitution. The supreme court unanimously agreed to let the ban continue because the supreme court fucking hates the US constitution. They do not want 170 million Americans to communicate because they fucking hate us and want us to suffer and die. HATE THEM BACK. You need to hate all public sector employees who receive a government check (with limited exceptions for some firemen, some policemen, and some policefiremen). You need to hate anyone who thinks a university degree is valuable. Universities promote violence. Universities discriminate based on race against Chinese people. Anyone who thinks that a university degree is worth something is therefore a ra_ist ra_ist. And there is nothing worse than a ra_ist ra_ist.

Regards,

Joseph Van Name Ph.D.

Let's see. Twitter has absolutely no content whatsoever since it is full of idiots. That new site BlueSky is full of chlurmcks who I would not want to have even a tootsie roll with. TikTok has actual content. It may not be the best content nor is it content that you may like, but it is nonetheless content.

It's obvious that everything has been made depending on the preferences/ agenda that any government has. Now Trump has found something that he can use against China (and has prepared it for a long time now), tomorrow EU can do it as well to his administration or the opposite. Politics can use everything and nothing as long as it suits them and companies are their big weapons.
Are you serious? In everywhere else minister doing this would be front page news, so i am pretty sure we knew about it.

Also Trump is saying now that he is 'most likely' giving TikTok 90-day extension to avoid ban. I don't believe he even bans it. Joe Biden left the execution of that for Trump's responsibility, and trump needs to be the strong man here, which he isn't. Also his base hates "big government" interfering their lives, and this would be perfect example of big government controlling their citizens.
