Well that's no feasible way of getting them out of Bitstamp. Because Bitstamp is a Ripple-gateway people were able to get their coins out there before they halted their services. Converting BTC to LTC or something else doesn't do the trick when you try to flee falling Bitcoin prices. The other coins are heavily tied to the BTC price / USD.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I have half my stash on stamp, should I be worried? Embarrassed

You're doing it wrong... never keep more than 5-10% of your coins on a single exchange is something everyone should have as their mantra by now. Some wouldn't even trust a single coin to an exchange, but it's kinda hard to trade then. Yes I'd be worried in your situation, but I would have been worried keeping half my stash on an exchange even without any issues going on at all.

Yeah nice timing, just shows that this is all is a very well coordinated attack. Push price down, at the same time hack hot wallet sending largest european exchange offline, everybody PANIC Smiley Have seen this like 10 times by now, things don't change.

And of course the only conclusion is, just as it was after gox - we need trustless exchanges. More of them.

Then the fake volume news, it does seem like the perfect shitstorm right?

It always does. What I've learned from the previous shitstorms is wait until everybody is running around crying "we all gonna die" and buy their coins, next month they will understand they are still alive.

WHYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!

DO YOU PEOPLE NEVER LEARN!?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm trading on there.....

I wouldn't keep a penny on any exchange, let alone HALF my BTC holdings. That's just crazy man.

As soon as I have BTC on an exchange it goes right to Trezor. Exchanges have shown time and time again that they are NOT trustworthy or competent.

There are multisig exchanges which, even when completely hacked, you still get your coins back with a backup key. bitstamp, though, is not one of them, you have no keys to your money when they are on stamp, so it's just blind trust all over again.

And yeah, people never learn. I thought these current prices and low liquidity are caused by people afraid to hold money on exchanges; looks like I was wrong. Even though this stamp situation most probably will resolve gracefully, do yourself a favor - listen to Devin, MOVE IT OUT like right away.

Or take all your fiat money, put them in a briefcase, travel to Slovenia, give the briefcase to a random dude you don't know the name of, tell him you will be back in a year to pick it up. Same story.

Bitstamp Service Temporarily Suspended

We have reason to believe that one of Bitstamp’s operational wallets was compromised on January 4th, 2015.

As a security precaution against compromises Bitstamp only maintains a small fraction of customer bitcoins in online system. Bitstamp maintains more than enough offline reserves to cover the compromised bitcoins.

IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE DEPOSITS TO PREVIOUSLY ISSUED BITCOIN DEPOSIT ADDRESSES. THEY CANNOT BE HONORED!

Customer deposits made prior to January 5th, 2015 9:00 UTC are fully covered by Bitstamp’s reserves. Deposits made to newly issued addresses provided after January 5th, 2015 9:00 UTC can be honored.

Bitstamp takes our security and soundness very seriously. In an excess of caution, we are suspending service as we continue to investigate. We will return to service and amend our security measures as appropriate.

Dear customer,

Today our transaction processing server detected problems with our hot wallet and stopped processing withdrawals.

You should STOP SENDING bitcoin deposits to your Bitstamp account IMMEDIATELY as private keys of your deposit address may be lost.

Your bitcoins already deposited with us are stored in a cold wallet and can not be affected.

We will send you more info as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Since BTC withdrawals on are not working, if you currently have coins at Bitstamp and you want to get them out as fast as you can you need to do this, for all we know bitstamp is hacked and Gox 2.0 is happening.

in some other exchange (bitfinex or BTC-E) and sell them if you need and had fiat on stamp and not BTC.

You might lose some because slippage or liquidity but if you want to stay safe is your choice.

It works:

For the Dutch, Buy XRP (ripple) on stamp, and send them to https://poloniex.com/ (make an account there) and then you can exchange them for BTC again.
After that send them to www.koop-bitcoin.nl and sell them for euro`s.  Next day on your account.

It's just to stay safe, better to be a little paranoid than to risk to lose all your funds right?
