According to this site: http://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/bitcointalk.org/ bitcointalk is worth 24 million dollars.

Here are some stats, from that site:
Potential revenue per day:
$ 3,780 / day
Potential revenue per month:
$ 113,400 / month
Potential revenue per year:
$ 1,360,800 / year
I don't really trust that website, how do they gather the number of revenue of this makes Grin
If im not wrong this forum lives from it's advertising, and you know how expensive it was

I don't think Theymos would sell this forum, he has more than money in this forum that can't be replaced Wink
But, I will offer Theymos a retirement at a villa in mountain away from the city where He can breath all the fresh air he wants to in exchange for this forum

... and look a look at how it's grown, especially in the past couple of years. I think it's safe to say the site income has grown exponentially in the past couple of years along with the influx of new users, and the increased popularity of bitcoin in general.

Lol, where are you getting this? Because every metric suggests otherwise, as in down ~50% over the past 2 years.
The site has grown a lot in the past couple of years, there are a lot more users and a lot more site activity as well. Same with bitcoin in general, there are a lot more people interested in it than a couple years ago.

So I think it's safe to assume that if you're planning on advertising on Bitcointalk, it'll cost quite a bit more than it did a couple of years ago due to how much more traffic the site gets, since your ad would be getting many more impressions.

It's hard to put a price point on a site that's only gonna grow.
If I was gonna buy it, I think I'd have to offer like 3k bitcoin for him to even consider it.
But that's just a guess..

And Thermos pulls in ~14 BTC, and spends ~20 BTC on teh all-pro moderation. In the red. Over $115k short of projected potential.

A flat million dollars for it... Would you like to have it @theymos? Grin But yeah, I'll have to first sell off my property for that. Tongue

BTW, as far as I can guess, he won't even accept the offer of 2 million dollars right now. He'd take even more than that.
I wish I could buy this forum but I dont think theymos would sell it.Anyway hypothetically speaking if I had to make an offer to theymos,I would offer him amount equal to 10 years of forum revenue
Even that might not be a good deal for theymos.. This forum has only been around for about 7 years, and look a look at how it's grown, especially in the past couple of years. Around 20btc a month goes to the staff though so take that into consideration.

So 20BTC/mo + server costs.
But some super lucrative assets, too:
-$2.5 million invested in new forum software, which will be finished sometime last year.
-A friendly, cohesive community of Shocked *

So, say ...what, like, $75 million US?

Thanks for the hilarious info. Among how many of u that gets distributed and does everyone get same ?

Around 30 moderators and everyone gets different depending on your mod level (Admin, Global, patroller etc) and how many reports you handle (among other things).

The price will always depend to the owner. and if I own this forum, I've price it about $5million take it or leave it. The buyer can simply make hypes and earn thru it actually  Grin he' be one of those big whales that can certainly influence people to sell their coins of not which is priceless.

Although those big figures some people mentioned seem fair for me, there's a huge risk in buying a site like this in this moment, Bitcoin is clearly at a crossroad and one could argue that it's reaching its peak. On the other hand we know it's resilient and it can survive another "death". With the halving incoming I think it's not very wise to invest millions of dollars into a highly volatile business that is having a war at its center but that's just me.

The bottom line is, to make an offer one must know what's the yearly income/profit from the site, with proofs and all ins and outs. After that it's just a matter of calculating the ROI and take the risk.

I think the price of this site depends on the unique visitors and daily users visit this website for signature campaign and knowledge about bitcoin.
Once similar or more good looking and feature website comes then this website could be replaced although the domain name would still be much worth lakh's.

Please quote in BTC.

1000BTC ($430,000) for now, but with modern UI that people want & more advertising, bitcointalk.org could worth up to 12500BTC ($5,375,000)
But some website (site price worth website) said bitcointalk.org had value about $300,000 to $1,200,000.
BTW, this website generates that much amount of money in 1 year(by selling ad spaces). Don't you think 1000BTC would be too low for that much earning, you cannot expect ROI withing an year.
I would have paid up to 5000BTC for the forum(only if I had them).
In the world of internet, no one knows what is awaiting after one year.

Theymos can't sell bitcointalk.org as the domain is held by Sirius.
Nopes. It is now jointly held by Cobra & Theymos.
How can domain be jointly held? and how do you know who really own this domain when whois privacy for it is on

I stand corrected! Maybe their registrar accepts multi-sig verification of requests for changes to the domain ownership etc. Certainly if they formed a company for the administration of the domain/forum, the domain would have been transferred to that company.

Hence, the inference is obvious.
This is some good and important reference and so is worth quoting Smiley
In case you think the buyer will also get the donations then the assumption is wrong because there is no fool to donate 5k $ or 20k $ to some forum. It was done when the price was significantly low.The site is not worth that much.

You are joking.  I have a friend who recently sold her pharmacy for around USD$500,000 and it is in a pretty affluent section of an affluent state with good cash flow and no debt.  I have a hard time believing that this website would be worth $17,000,000 or anywhere close to that.  If Theymos got that as an offer he should take it and never look back.

I think if site was for sale right now there will be investors who would pay 1 or 2 millions (2k-4k in Bitcoin)right  away without bargain.
It is safe to assume that certain bitcoin entrepreneurs like Roger Ver would buy it for even more. I am not here to comment on legal status of the domain as I don't care.

Bitcointalk is priceless, however I think people would pay upwards of 1500BTC for it.

Doubt Theymos would ever sell it though, this site is where Bitcoin was born; nobody would sell it if they owned it. I also don't think Theymos would ever have to sell it, he has a LOT of Bitcoin and is very wealthy.
Bitcoin was not born on bitcointalk. It was first announce on mailing list. The first forum was on sourceforge. Then it was at forum.bitcoin.org. Then it came to its current domain. Theymos was not the original owner of it. He was given the charge and he built it to its current form.

I think this forum is priceless or we don't have the digit to give this site a value to be sold and if it get ever sold to new owners or groups than i doubt it to sustain. How this forum has let other users to get paid for their contribution in forum without risking the sustainability of the forum is quite amazing. And all users including me like to appriciate how well this forum is maintained focusing more on users rather than site's profit.

Yes I think we can all agree on that, but we are just trying to answer the main question. If I were the owner I would not sell it for the amount I gave. I didn't even took into consideration the monthly expenses for maintaining it (server, developers, etc). Buying something that isn't even for sale would be much more expensive of course.

I would be interested, just curious really to know some approximate revenue figures. I know forums don't do really well so many here are talking about figures I'm not sure are very practical. Anyone know what a forum like this makes in a month or so in the current state? Hope I'm not asking something too confidential hehe.
In last two week it earned 14.75 BTC.

Ref: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/advertise-on-this-forum-round-162-1284604

Thanks, that's really interesting. Well then that's 360 BTC a year. If you multiply that for 3 years worth of revenue which is very generous that would be 1080 BTC. I think something around 1000-2000 BTC would be fair. So I very much agree with ETFbitcoin basically.

No website 'valuation' service has the slightest clue, even more so in this particular case. It would appeal to a small pool of buyers and they would need some vision so it would be a bitch to value. I'm not in the market myself. Too many head aches for me.
