There are many other sources that describe it simply. Don't expect the masses to understand the calculations, the SPV, the transactions, Proof-of-Work etc., from the whitepaper.
Yeah, this is the quickest and surest way to kill any interest a newcomer might possibly have about Bitcoin.
Videos, for better or worse, are what seem to work best to explain certain things or satisfy precise questions people would normally have. And I've to say some snippets from Antonopoulos's lectures in books like Mastering Bitcoin are really great, especially when done in video format. His Youtube channel has some great minute bites, especially questions from 3+ years ago like "Can Bitcoin be used as an everyday currency" and plenty of questions related to energy consumption, which I can't tell you how often a newbie/non Bitcoiner brings up!
