Just FYI, the background color behind the Ignore button changes the more people have used it.

I've put a few people on ignore without resorting to even letting them know, it's not worth my time, just like it's not worth my time constantly seeing them posting know what they post annoys me in enough to want to put them on ignore in the first place.

Yes I'm sure it has the potential for abuse, I don't deny, however as a statistic it still exists and I think it would be important to be public knowledge. Just like how many exist on your own ignore list could. It could be seen an interesting information.

People from time to time still quote that OTC rating as useful.

We could count how many others someone has on ignore. That might indicate whether they're able to stay calm about things. Smiley

You can't find truth or quality in a voting system. And that's all the ignore system is at this point. It just does not work, the displayed result is worthless.

My ignore list is still empty, and IMO, people shouting "I put you on ignore!!1" is a good bullshit indicator. The entire ignore counting feature should go to the bin for good.

Figured this is still relevant and since I would actually like to see something like this go in.

We have a small subset of this community who just do everything you could imagine to encourage others to want to ignore them.

Would be relatively easy to make.

Didn't see this and posted the same + bounty.

I guess if Theymos says no, then any size a bounty would matter.

Theymos asked for this to be posted here when HostFat brought it up, so he's open to it. He just said it's his preference is all. If enough users want it one way he'll likely oblige.

I prefer not to show it at all. No one really needs to know, and it'll probably cause hurt feelings and drama.

Option 2 preferred.

If we're gonna prattle off related features, though...
- Prevent threads created by ignored user from appearing
- Don't show the user's existence on a thread at all. As in, when I scroll through a thread, I don't want to see a block of space saying "This user is currently ignored."
- Don't show quotes from the ignored person. At most, when someone's quoting someone I'm ignoring, I want to see

Ok, I added it Smiley

You would think that if I ignore a person that they would not be able to send me a PM.
It's a good idea, it should be an on/off option:
- Block PMs from ignored users [X]

If the the sum of the first 2 options ( both with ignored counter  ) will be higher the the third ( no ignored counter ), then I'll see as the majority wants the ignored counter, right?

Should've added a poll, would probably be a lot more people willing to check a box than post.

As for my vote, I don't really have a preference, I'd just go with whatever the majority wants.

I don't know. I personally find it hysterical when people brag about putting someone on the ignore list. I could give a rat's ass who listens to whom; seems like content should dictate who you listen to, not other people opinions of the person.

I put someone on an ignore list and they asked me why in a pm.  I think I hurt their feelings.  You would think that if I ignore a person that they would not be able to send me a PM.

I think it is a great idea to put a counter.

Option 2.

Option 1 becomes a way of judging people. A popularity stat. You apparently think that is a legitimate purpose. I don't. I'm not a fan of reputation systems on forums. They typically get gamed and become completely pointless.

Frankly, I'm against the ignore feature entirely. People should act in a civilized manner or they should be asked to leave. If they are still here, then what they are saying isn't so abhorrent that you can't slide your eyes past it as you continue to the next post. You give people the tools to live in their own little world and it just increases the filter bubble effect.

So, you prefer the option 2 ? Smiley

Do you think that it's bad to add an "Ingnored counter" under user profiles?
This will show how many users are ignoring someone ( without showing any names )
An user must know that many people doesn't like what they are saying, it's also useful for themselves ... to know that they are probably doing wrong.
It won't count Brand new and Newbie groups.

Example as it should be:

HostFat
Staff
Hero Member
Posts: 711
Ignored by: 37 users

Then there are 2 options, that will change in some way the results of this modification:
1) Available/visible to everyone ( everyone will know that someone is ignored by X users )
2) Visible only to ourself ( everyone will know privately that there are X users that are ignoring them )

I prefer the option 1 Smiley
