Death to enemies!
Resurrecting this old thread. Now the summary of events in past months follows.

Did not get the electricity from free project, it was taken over by another persons. Handed over the project to another people.

Managed to get free electricity from municipality home heating system. This is no problem as key persons in home management and maintenance know about this and with possibility of many computers producing heat they could disconnect some heaters in shared public rooms.

Had few junk computers running servers and two ATI cards mining in pool. Everything was almost ready except physical security. Drunk persons coming and going with only curtain separating shelves with hardware from the drunkards.

Fire erupted in neighboring apartment from unknown reasons. Most likely smoking while drunk or electrical short. Whole place was first hit by smoke and then heavily flooded as fireman arrived.

Still have a hookup to free electricity but the location of hardware must be changed and secured. I was stuck to find sane and orderly person who can host the hardware in her apartment. Some where afraid from radiation (!) or objected to noise it produces.

We can probably lock this topic to end the flame war about ASIC. BFL still have not delivered and for great surprise seems that Avolon have ASIC.

Will write again if I get secure location for server location.

I know ASIC are coming few years from now from legitimate microchip company such as Marvell Jmicron Infineon or similar known producer. Corpsefly Labs are long scam.

I bet you 50 BTC right here publicly that at least one of BFL/bASIC/Avalon/etc will ship ASICs before June 31, 2012. Let's find an escrow we can both trust. Ok?

Shush Frog. Hey mrb can I take you up on your quoted bet right now?!

You mean June 31st 2013 I hope otherwise you lost already...

Apparently, BTCFPGA already has the ASIC chip by the way. They are just finalizing the board design prior to final assembly, so I have heard but I may be wrong...
As of BFL, they have the borad ready but are waiting for their ASIC chip according to the buzz.

All cryptos are FIAT digital currency. Do not use.
Bitcoin will never reach its full potential if we don't completely abandon the not so great pastimes of interest, gambling and financial fraud.

Ripping off the EU will not fix your country, Mysteryminer. Promoting and upholding a good image of BTC will.

Sounds good to me, I'm in the US.  I can't ship any GPUs, but I can start up a US based initiative.  I too essentially have free electricity.  About 20 AMPs at 120v.  So roughly 20,000 watts.  Enough to start up a small pool if need be.  I started a similar thread and got similar responses.  If you send me a PM, we can go from there.

I thought Amp x Volt = Watt ?? So 20 x 120 = 2400watt??? Or do i over see something here?? just curious..

You got it right.  2.4kW will be enough to run about 12-15 GPUs.

12-15 GPUs

Betsofbitcoin MysteryMiner is my profile but I made bet already using other profile that I want to keep confidential.

What makes you think the ASICs won't be released?  I think they make take a little longer to send out at the very most, but butterflylabs has pulled through in the past.
When in past BFL released ASIC products? FPGAs are totally different devices in terms of development complexity, development cost and development times.
Quote
I don't quite understand their logic with releasing a unit for $700 that performs better than their $15,000 rig.
They need dummies who pay advance fee in this scam of all scams. The price is high but affordable and the trust is established with FPGA products.

I doubt that BFL is making ASIC chips at all. I suspect them to be a con scam scheme establishing trust with easy to make FPGAs and then taking preorders and buybacks for new devices and disappearing. If they are making the chips they should have at least credible prototype videos and information that can lift all doubts about them.

GPU mining won't go away with advent of ASICs.
Litecoin was specifically designed to take on that job.

If one compares the sheer number of GPUs out there and the number of ASICs that will come out of foundries by the end of the year and within next year, one can clearly see that GPU mining is still going to be the biggest game in town for a long time. It won't be mining Bitcoins though.

If anything GPUs won't suddenly disappear, they will simply change hands.

I fail to see the logic in this.

I can sell four 7970s that get me about 2.6g/h and get an ASIC that gets me 54g/h and uses a fraction of the power.  Why on earth would I, or anyone else, use a GPU for mining?

I don't want to see it collapse, but it needs some work.

People doubt ASICs because they are difficult to develop, and expensive. The concept that bitcoin is successful enough to drive entrepreneurs to sink hundreds of thousands, or potentially > $1M & > 1 year of professional development, into a bitcoin project, is hard to swallow (not my words, just an explanation).

That said, bitcoin has always been a "scam" where people keep paying more money to match difficulty, that is inherent in the design. This is just the natural progression, CPUs started it, GPUs being faster more specialized CPUs took over, and now fully dedicated processors in the form of FPGA/ASIC are on the scene. This is the root of bitcoin, and it isn't necessarily a problem.

If it is a scam why would anybody want GPU rigs anyway. Other than to make a very cheap GPU supercomputer, which is actually very useful in academia [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSVo4ejZ7rc], I just do not see the point.

It would be easier to ask bitcoin miner to simply ship their rigs (shipping could be paid by the interested party) to be recycle for such purpose rather than trying to justify it for bitcoin GPU mining.

Anyway, each its own.

And what you derps will do if someone announces Litecoin ASICs and start take preorders for them?

The Bitcoin ASIC is not here and will not be here for long time. Current ASIC preorders are fraud and classic confidence scam.

Probably I need to wait until everyone realizes that no ASIC is coming and then resurrect this thread.

There are at least 5 vendors for Bitcoin ASICs, one of them in China in the process of tapeout.
I can't see all of them to be scam, to be honest.

As MrTeal pointed out, Litecoin ASICs would need to compete with GPUs at what GPUs have perfected over a long period of time i.e. working with large amounts of high-bandwidth memory, while still remaining cheap to manufacture. Not likely to happen any time soon if ever.

Because of Scrypt's need for high speed memory access, it is more difficult and expensive to make a Litecoin ASIC than it is to make a Bitcoin ASIC.

The same people who created bubble in summer 2011 and predicted that 1BTC will cost more than 100$ at the end of 2011

The same people who invested in LGBT

The same people who used MyBitcoin

and The same people who paid to Pirate40

now they are preordering ASICs and believing in poisoned forum with paid signatures advertising ASIC.

You have no idea what was there before and why I changed that text, right?

I will not proceed until everything is done. Right now I'm researching how interested people are in this. Many people are going to sell the GPU mining rigs because of reward halving and ASIC chips. The reward halving is real but in my opinion the ASIC is scam and they will not be delivered. Just like with Pirate. So I think that GPU mining will be the best way to do it in year 2013.

Anyway if you pay more than half of profit for electricity the free electricity can be more profitable. This depends on how we split the profit from mining.

The rules about splitting mined coins and who pays replacement parts in case of hardware failure is not yet ready. I'm working right now to get subsidized free electricity. The bureaucracy and paperwork is unimaginable.
