I have been trying to learn how to digitally sign for example a post or an email or something for a while but I still haven't gotten my mind around it. It should be way easier than it is now, its kind of alienating and you have to take a lot of steps to get it done, can't they just make it a click and go thing for the non geeks?

It's fairly easy once you get it setup. Using Kleopatra, which comes with gpg4win if I'm not mistaken, just copy (ctrl-c) the text you want to encrypt or sign, right click kleopatra>clipboard>and choose option. The encrypted/signed version will replace the text in the clipboard to be pasted wherever. Same method to decrypt messages.

Well there's keybase if you can get an invite as its in testing phase i believe. But the way GPG work, you still need to do some setup. If you could encrypt decrypt without setting up a key and how to encrypt/decrypt with x Person then there would be no point in encrypting in the first place.

You need a way for only your target or certain persons(yourself) to know how to decrypt.

What is PGP? and is there anyway for us to earn BTC without Purchasing it?

Refer to the very first reply in this thread. For your convenience;

If you ask what PGP is in relation to BTC, you don't need PGP.

PGP is not something you purchase. It is open source. The most common implementation is GPG. You don't need PGP to earn BTC but for security, most big sellers here use PGP to verify their identity.

Just a cautionary note....

Be very careful while learning how PGP works. DO NOT go and encrypt some of your existing files. Many users play around with PGP until they are comfortable then delete their keys and setup new keys. If you  lose your keys you are screwed. There is no way to decrypt anything you encrypted if you do not have the private key you used to encrypt it in the first place.

So my suggestion would be to create a temporary folder on your computer and to dump some dummy files in there and then to experiment on those files. If anything goes wrong and or you delete yourkeys by mistake then its no big problem as you only lose those dummy files.

As said, do not go and encrypt any valuable files right off the bat. First play on dummy files until you fully understand how it works before you do so.

If you are running Windows then the easiest way to set it up will be to go to http://www.gpg4win.org/

You can download the necessary files there which integrate very nicely into windows so that you can encrypt/decrypt/sign etc.. right from Windows Explorer.

There is also a good support section and forum where you can get help on PGP in general as well as the software.

You can also visit the following sites for more information on PGP. I would like to post more info here but that will just take up space. These sites have everything you need to know.
