Well generally I would say the price factor still plays a part. When price is sky high, it doesn't matter what the rest of the people are thinking, as long it is valuable, it's not a scam. Even if past history about exchangers' collapse is not going to change your opinion about bitcoin. The media will play along with it, writing beautiful stories about how wonderful bitcoin is.

However, when the opposite happens and price goes to the dump, everybody starts to develop the negative thinking. The press will take every opportunity to give a good bashing and that is where everything ends up in the drain.

Its only illegal to Buy drugs.  Not sell drugs.

This is about as clear as the same mud that the media paints bitcoin with. Bitcoin and drugs are available to all who wish to partake. Depending on where you reside laws may differ from other areas in the world.

Where I hail from there are laws that pertain to possession. The onus is on the possessor to prove innocence. Ignorance of the law is no defense at all.

CYOA (cover your own ass) is universal.

As to the image of bitcoin...it is what it is...and it will be what it will be. For many at this time, ignorance would most certainly have been bliss if they had never heard of it in late 2013 and invested heavily.

I'd plead ignorance on both counts but I've yet to be charged.

Its only illegal to Buy drugs.  Not sell drugs.
For someone to be selling you also need someone to buy.
Also what you said is not true.

Explain.  After you sell them your no longer in possession of them.
Buying and selling are two sides of the same act.

Also, for almost any kind of transaction, legal or illegal, sellers have a lot more transactions than buyers. How many books did you buy last month? And how many did Amazon sell? The same principle holds true with drug transactions.

If u don't use the drugs, there is no problem.  The problem is with the users not the sellers.   Roll Eyes
I thought remains the same even if only as a third hand or courier
it still illegal

Man, cut off the supply.  And there will still be buyers.  So your point is mute.

simply answer : mass media.
complicated answer : stupid media.

This is a simple and the best answer.

Last year when I mentioned to my parents I was into bitcoin who are 60 their response was the typical "Didn't bitcoin go bankrupt?", "Yea I thought I read the CEO committed suicide too".

They only knew what the mass media was spewing. They know better now, but still apprehensive.

Lately I had an awkward conversation with someone who was shocked when he heard I was into BTC. He said he thought BTC was illegal to use and it was not worth to care with. I was "Wtf" and asked where he got this information from. Read somewhere he said. In fact, this person is not alone with his opinion. I discussed with many who totally got BTC wrong just read something about it and built a shady image of it in their mind. I think, a wall in front of BTC is that is it not understood by many. In order to get the right image of BTC you need to be open-minded at some level since it truly IS different than the cash most people use every day. By time it could change within the society, but the question do we want it?

What are the advantages and disadvantages - in your opinion - that BTC is unknown for many?
What image have people around You of BTC?
Most of uneducated people about bitcoin think it's only used for illegall activities based on silkroad news in media etc so i'm not surprised they think it's illegal.

Well the stories about Bitcoin being used on the Silk Road marketplace and other illegal activities makes for a great story to report on. It just isnt' the same as doing a report on Alpaca Socks or something. This is something that sticks with the people, unfortunately. I guess we need to give it more time and wait for this to blow over. It's like the wild west, still...

Shock stories = more views. Therefore people are going to here mostly the scandals or big doings with bitcoin, and not much about how it works.

complicated answer : stupid media.

Basically this. Most people will take their information about bitcoin from the media, and as a result what the media says becomes the image of bitcoin. This is often misinformed or just wrong, and as a result you get a false image.
