if you were to spend time in the spam sections for an hour a day and reported all the garbage posts, you'd hit 5000 reports pretty easily.
Imposible an hour can reported hit 5000. it's not easy, because reporting have wait time each.
example : for senior member have wait time 4 second, full member 8 second, etc...
for other country have slow internet, have much time loading for hit 5k reported/hour.
It is impossible for a single day, but it is possible if you spend an hour per day to report spams with average rate of 100 spam reports per day; you will have 5000 spam reports after 2 months. Sometimes, I saw threads in which I can see 10 or 20 spam posts; it is easy.

Somehow it could be as @hacker1001101001 just said that someone could make a bot just to make them get many reports and that will be easy for them to get those badges. I report some posts without thinking I could get that badge but a good thing if it will be implemented and I'll accept that fact that I could get a badge, the only thing is not all to have the same thinking as I or some other people neutral to this "reporter badges".

Most people are abuser but if the only reward for a good rate of reporting is just a badge or nothing else involved especially getting some merits or ranking up I guess that will limit some people in regards to the satisfaction they'll get. What I want to point out is just let it alone a badge and increase the quota of the required report to something like 10k or above.
Spending 5 or 10 minutes each day to visit spam boards, and report spam posts, as small contribution to clean the forum. Some easy place to find them, altcoin discussions, announcements (altcoins) - especially new born projects usually bumped by newbies. Badge has nothing to do with money, financial aspect, I don't think people with reporter badge will have higher probability to get acceptance from managers. Like what managers look at merit history, that is not enough to assess post quality. Therefore, I dont' think there are many people will abuse report system to get badges.

Reporter badge, if does not have appropriate algorithm, might cause another type of abusement, and shady attacks.

Reporter badge, if does not have appropriate algorithm, might cause another type of abusement, and shady attacks.
Someone whom hate the forum, for whatsoever reasons, merit system, new rank requirements, might use their newbie accounts to do massive spam, then use their other accounts to run spam-report attacks.

I doubt people will do create accounts just for this dumb action. There's a lot of shitposters in a different discussion, they should go there instead of creating accounts for spam-reports. Just a waste of time Roll Eyes

do you really need badges to motivate you do the right things? just keep on reporting,
Badges certainly aren't needed, but they would provide incentive for people to do more reporting.  I have no doubt about that, because a badge would be recognition of an achievement of sorts, much like forum rank is or merits or trust.

Agree, There are users wanted to get every single achievement on this forum. There's nothing we can do but to support those people who aim to be better in this community by acquiring achievements.

Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.
Well! theymos stated that reporter badge is not top priorities in his to-do list.
Is a report of a bump post in a long-forgotten thread worth as much as a report of someone luring Newbies into downloading malware in self-moderated topics?

I believe badges will not give reporters any financial benefits, to avoid abusements, certainly; but there will be other attacks for fun or as type of revenge.

I thought about reporter badge, and think of secret figrues of total reports, at which reporters will get their badges. I think it might result in sudden fun and appreciation. Users simply keep doing their reports over time, and at a beautiful day, they will see their badges. For same rank of badges, people might have their randomly lucky numbers, like lucky number of activity for Legendary member rank.

I'd like a very high one just to encourage users to continue reports as I feel 5k reports is easy to get within a very small amount of time.
Yeah, if you were to spend time in the spam sections for an hour a day and reported all the garbage posts, you'd hit 5000 reports pretty easily.  I don't h ave quite that many, but I'm close.  I was doing much more reporting before the merit system came along and since then I've been slacking--and I don't visit sections like Bitcoin Discussion much anymore.

My feelings about reporter badges are kind of neutral.  I do think it would be a cool thing to add, as it would be a status symbol for a lot of members and--most importantly--it would light a fire under people's asses to do more reporting.  People love to level up, you know.

so when the badges out you already have enough good report counts for one Wink
maybe theymos is still figuring out how to protect the badge award system from abuse
because people could make new accounts just to spam, so his main account can report it Lips sealed

I'm thinking generally, some people don't want to report things because they didn't care at all. So thinking about a simple motivation, it will help to encourage all of the users to report those spam and shitpost. Let's be honest, if theymos didn't open up the thread about reporters badge, some people will just ignore the report button. There are only a few people who are members of spam busters who digging every discussion just to diminish all of the spam/shit posts.

When it comes to me, I don't need any motivation, I'm already doing my best because being here is one of my passion.  Wink

There's probably a good reason why it hasn't been implemented yet. It's unclear what the reasons are, but something has probably got the attention of theymos. Although, a very neat addition to the forum I wouldn't class it as high priority. Hopefully, we see some higher threshold reporting badges now that there's several users on the forum with 30k+ reports. I'd like a very high one just to encourage users to continue reports as I feel 5k reports is easy to get within a very small amount of time. At least if we had say a 100k one it would potentially spur users on to keep reporting.

Yes, there's a lot of users who have 10k good reports already so it's better to make it in 100k or more since every month there are thousands of post that have been made by sig spammers and shitposters

So I think it's the time to implement the reporter badges to motivate all the users to report those spam and shitpost on different discussion boards. It's been a year when theymos started to seek an icon/image for these badges and many users tried to send their entries, now is the time to use those icons. Any thoughts?

Theymos responded in that thread earlier on this year, but I think many people missed his post:

still waiting for it Cry

One thing is it would surely reduce surface spam of it does hit the ground. Lots of members would be engaged and cleaning out high priority and also low priority cases of spam. This would increase the workload on moderators but to other remembers it would be just fine. Would be interesting to see what theymos comes up with, should it get implemented regardless
Probably a priority meter where reporters choose how important their reports are before submitting based on an already generated suggestion.

This makes sense, for why would theymos have not implemented report badge's yet.

Anyone could easily trick the system by reporting unwanted posts when he can report the whole thread by stating in a single report or someone would just code a highly effective bot to report posts and get shiny badge's on his back with no hard work involved. Its basically prone to abuse.

I think there is much to work upon here, not simple as it looks !  Huh

Implementation of reporter badge would be a great idea to prevent spam. As far as I observe, aside from a minority of members taking part in The SpamBusters Club, the majority keep neutral attitudes toward this issue. Some shiny badges under the display name would provide a lot of motivation for reporting spam. Some designs in the Seeking reporter badge images topic are pretty cool. It'd be lovely to see this proposal implemented.

Since bitcoin is getting lively again, there are so many users that came here to join bounty campaigns. There's massive spam happening right now in the different discussion boards; Altcoin Discussion, Bitcoin Discussion, Gambling Discussion and many more.

I hear every now and then that Bitcoin discussion / Trading discussion / Gambling discussion / altcoin discussion (and many others) are considered as spam sections.
So I think it's the time to implement the reporter badges to motivate all the users to report those spam and shitpost on different discussion boards. It's been a year when theymos started to seek an icon/image for these badges and many users tried to send their entries, now is the time to use those icons. Any thoughts?
