It appears that the problem was on the proxy tab and for some reason, SOCKS5 was selected. I changed it to NONE and I then connected just fine. There was no anti virus blocking connections and yes I'm using 2.9.3v.

If you uncheck "select server automatically", click on the "Server" tab and then manually put in a server like electrum.hsmiths.com (port 50002) or node.arihanc.com (port 50002) etc... and then restart does that do anything?

Also, it looks like you're running an old v2.x version (I assume older windows?)... is it v2.9.3?

There could be a couple of things that could cause this and we may have to troubleshoot to find out. Initially you could check if your firewall or antivirus is blocking connections to the electrum servers. The next thing I'd suggest you to check the 'Connection' tab to see if it's checked to 'Use Proxy' or tor, maybe you could try unchecking that if it is and if you're not running tor. Also, you could try connecting to other servers manually from the 'Servers' tab (it's disabled cause it's checked to connect automatically).

You could refer to status of servers here: https://1209k.com/bitcoin-eye/ele.php

Edit:

I've faced one issue where the connection fails to happen when I quickly switch between options 'Use SSL', 'Use Tor Proxy at port 9050' and 'Use Proxy' (just check and uncheck them repeatedly and it would show 'Not Connected' and it never connects. I've tried this repeatedly now and I had to restart electrum 3.0.3 to be able to connect. Also, I have tor running, it works fine with electrum. So, just incase if this is also an issue you're facing, try restarting electrum and also check that you're not using any special startup parameters),

This is the first time that this problem occurs. I launch the wallet and it says "Not connected" on the left and If I click on the red icon to select another server, I don't find any:

and sometimes it shows "Waiting for fee estimate..." even though I'm not trying to send anything.
