Nigeria need over hauling and updating to start working like other countries where democracy and rule of is the order of the day.  In Nigeria you don't have your individual right, how can a police man shot someone just like that and that police make will be freely moving around because he has people who will protect him while the dead person is gone. This is unfortunate situation in some countries especially in third world countries where rule of law no dey exist. Of course we know say even politicians dey ask police to take life off any person wey stand on their way. E bad say the constitution dey only work for where the poor dey no be where the rich dey. This kind of injustice is what causes problems in the country as insecurity and kidnapping dey increase.
We escape in the hands of bad governance. Crime is one of the social vices that will make a country's growth to be dormant and not working effectively, everything will be up side down depending on the government that have completely failed to meet up their promises before elected into office. Nigeria happens to be one of the developing country in our present days, we should always find solid means to tackle our problems. I know it's not easy but we should just keep striving for growth because it's constant.

It is very sad to see that human right is no longer in existence for the poor people in Nigeria, but only for the rich. When you come up to speak the truth about what a rich man is doing that is bad, or the harsh treatment that the government is giving to their citizens, you can get arrested and killed for it. This has made so many poor people to live in fear and poverty because their lives are more precious to them, and the government wants everyone to accept all that they are doing by making life more difficult for the masses so that the poor will only concentrate more on surviving rather than fighting back at them. However, this is not only happening in Nigeria but in most countries, because the government always want to control the lives of their citizens so that the citizens will always be vulnerable to them.

Sim_card, so many things are wrong in Nigeria and I find it very difficult to comprehend why things happen this way and why the country doesn't seem to make progress is so long time of the years. The irregularities backed by the elitism experienced in this country is disgusting and I will give you examples. Beforehand, you may also want to know who the elites are in the Nigerian context and they are the owners of oil wells, former presidents, governors, senators, ministers, house of reps members, ex Army generals, top public and civil servants who have siphoned public funds make up a list of the Nigerian elites. They are the only class of people who truly have voice and freedom to speech. They are those who can freely claim their rights and even infringe on other people's rights and go scout free. An example is not far-fetched from the case of the former governor of a state who have stolen billions of naira but have flaut invitations from the EFCC to come and account for his strong allegations. Another is a former governor who had a lot of charges and EFCC case on his shoulders but still went ahead to serve as the National Chairman of a party and so on. Yet, if the average citizen should commit a small crime or misdemeanor, he will be prosecuted and frustrated by the law. All sorts of Favourism, Selective discipline and judgement happens here.

There are many more examples of these cases that have been swept under the carpet when it has something to do with people at the height of the social class or the so-called elites whereas the commoners are pounced on for attempting something little off.

There's a lot of things that is happening in the country, people don't have right freedom of speech against the government.(example end sars).A case that happened in my state where a police my shot a man for talking back at him,now is the reverse case instead of protecting the citizen, you are now a treat to them.
I always tell people that Nigeria has not gotten to that stage where you can exercise all the human rights you have, if you are driving and you meet police men on checkpoint, I always tell people to be polite to those policeman because they are under the hot sun and are not always in the right state of mind, so bridle your tongue when you're talking to them else one police man can be trigger-happy and the next minute your lifeless, even the Holy Bible recognises that life and death are in the power of the tongue. The average Nigerian policeman is going through complex issues, from Poor enumeration, to dilapidated barracks where they stay and the whole lot more.  Nigerian operate an elitist system where those of them in the top echelon enjoy more privileges and right, but the downtruding and those of them are the lower class don't share the same rights, so in trying to exercise your right in an unjust system like this always get a resistance.

Omo I just tire o, same happen in my state too, people no longer say what is in their mind again or what is troubling them, we all live in danger to avoid being bull or being killed by our fellow citizen, in Nigeria, I don't think fundamental human rights exist again, now people are just be mindful of what they are doing or saying, because if we talk anything, we will get ourselves implicated which might leads us to our early grave and also if we are not rich or if we not recognize as one of the most respected people in this country, we won't have any say, because I believe the human rights is only use by those in power or those who are rich not the poor or middle class people. So let's just live a good life to avoid problem.

If you no get money for Nigeria, or you no know one powerful person wey get mouth for di country, den e beta say make you no know your right, because if you exercise your right, you fit to land for detention, dem go forget your matter and you go grow gray hair for there. So jejely keep your opinion to yourself if you no get levels, I de talk dis thing because I don see many youths wey don protest, at last dem detain dem, na dem family go de find money to bail dem, even do dem say bail is free.

Mind your business and stay out of trouble, if you de for public wey dem de criticize di government, just mind your business, because you no know who be who for there. Naija democracy never mature reach wey ordinary man wey no get levels go protest, you go surprise say dem go release people wey una follow protest and you go remain there. Na only God, go help di common man for inside Nigeria.

Good question ,I will answer the question in two face yes it work to an extent and stop working
What I mean is, it works in many ways and doesn't work in some ways is vice versa
Did u know that freedom of speech is free, but not every side you will apply it ,if you apply it wrongly you will be handled wrongly too,for using it anyhow.
Their are ways freedom of speech work as a citizen you are free to say anything but their are somethings you will say you die with it .

That's a very good example to your question, you have right and previlage not all aspects because this is Nigeria for you,you don't do anyhow because you are a citizen and you think you have the right and the previlage to be acting abnormal,if you try it law enforcement agency will befall you that your right and previlage you think you have ,the right and previlage of citizens let me list it

The right and previlage of franchise
Freedom of speech
Freedom of movement
Freedom of worship e.t.c

All this listed above are your right and previlage as a citizen but you can use it anyhow because if you do you will be punish accordingly though they have given you the right is left for you to reason well in using them.

Clearly seen in Nigeria our rights and privileges only exist theoretically. It doesn’t really take effect in our society. Looking at the way citizens are being treated, we can’t even talk or even speak up about something that is not good. Especially when it comes to our leadership, citizens don’t even have the right to say no to bad leadership. Because we don’t have active human right back up system. I think Nigeria is getting to a point where black color will be seen as white color, very soon. It’s a pity that we have human rights written down just for fancy, without effectiveness in our society.
