It's more like when someone shows me his id to proof his identity I would like to see if he manipulated the image.

Though I just have read when a fotos is taken of the changed image then it doesn't matter anymore, no edit can be found.

Sounds like it can't be really proved.

there is another way, if you had access to the original image is compare the file hashes, although often places you upload images to alter them but if your just dealing with files given to you by someone and have an original to compare it to, you can check the file hashes. Any alterations would change the hash, even changing a single byte.

You can usually open the image up in Gimp or Photoshop and adjust the Image Levels. Normal photos will have even looking pixelated areas, and pasted layers will stand out in Manipulated images.

Hello,

I remember that somewhere on bitcointalk I found a tool, or better a website, that could check if an image is manipulated. It added some filters or so and one could see the extra objects then.

Can someone tell me which url that website had? I can't find it anymore.

Greetings!
Sebastian
