A forum is a meeting place for people to interact and discuss, so your activity would be in the forum.
A board is a notice board that is located at a forum, so your notices would be posted on the board(s).

Both of them are used.

I searched for it on the forum. == tells me where you were when you were searching. (you were on the forum)

I searched for it in the forum. == tells me where you were searching. (you searching among forum threads, say)

I found this and sounds good.

Hi, I am not sure what is the correct preposition, if they are both correct, or if it depends on the context.

The same happens with “board”, and “thread”.

Im waiting for an answer too. I usually meet "on board" instead of "in board". But I don't confirm that are correct. Need someone to help.
