I thought about Tennis, you can find super stars in both sex.

The female super stars would not make the male top 200.

Serena Williams vs. Rafael Nadal in a grunting contest...Williams dominates.

Maybe we just stop this madness now and admit that women have no chance winning against men. Physique of a man is far superior afterall. Even in sports like car racing or horse racing...

Women are better at a lot of things than men. It's just men tend to be more competitive in a lot of regards.

There aren't really any competitive caregiver events Wink

Men would still win. As I said, men are a lot more competitive. They'd try to optimize and maximize the sport. Personally, I hate game-shows because of this. People gaming the system rather than just having fun. (Honestly, Japanese Game Shows are best because of this -- watch 24 hour endurance tag, I bet you WILL laugh).

If I play, I play to win. Even if I'm just playing for fun and don't care about the result I try to win. I just won't care if I lose then.

You're a male. I think biologically, that's what we're programmed to do. Win at all cost. If we're better than the man beside us, we're a better mating partner, right?

Yes, I was reaffirming your statement.

@bryant.coleman  Same thing for chess players. Also if more men play chess it's even more likely they're simply better. People enjoy doing things they're good at more than things they suck at and tend to do it more because of that.

I was just posting the opinion of the researcher. That was his justification for the lack of gender equality in chess. I don't agree with him fully in any sense. IMO, the only woman GM who is capable of competing against the male GMs is Judit Polgár. She has defeated Viswanathan Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Anatoli Karpov, Ruslan Ponomariov, Garry Kasparov, Alexander Khalifman, Boris Spassky, Vasily Smyslov, Veselin Topalov, and Rustam Kasimdzhanov.

Yes we're talking in general here. The above does show the difference in chess is far lower than in more physical sports such as tennis.

Now that I think of it, women are really good in volleyball. And even better in beach volley. I've never seen a profesional women team competing with a men's one to be honest but women's volleyball league seems just as profesional as the men's one (at least to me).

Then why do both the male and women play in different competitions and don't face each other? It's not like there is physical contact (oh the horror!).

That is truth about people! Also I last time when I checked I did not see many women with grandmaster chess title. It maybe so that women play little chess but I don't think that is the main reason.

Apparently it's not about IQ as men are also far better than women at chess.

Researchers claim that it is just because men play chess more often, when compared to the women (the best male players are extreme outliers on the bell curve, while the best female players are less so).

Believe it or not, maybe of the top female tennis players can't beat male college level players, and even some male high school level players. If you're above-average at tennis, you might have a shot of beating a 100-200+ level tennis player.

Sad but true. Women won't be able to compete with men in sports which requires athletic ability. In other sports, such as chess they may be having a better chance (what is the difference in average IQ for men and women?)

The best woman would not be in the top-500 of the men. The cannot even play best of five because they get tired. The fact they get paid the same in prize money is an outrage. Any male contestant in a grand slam entering the female tournament would win the tournament without dropping a single game.

Sadly, not even close on tennis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Sexes_(tennis)

The only game won in professional league was against a guy that was retired vs quite literally the world champion. Even at his ripe old age, he still put up a fight.

Quote
A fourth event dubbed a "Battle of the Sexes" took place during the 1998 Australian Open between Karsten Braasch and the Williams sisters. Venus and Serena Williams, aged 17 and 16 respectively, had claimed that they could beat any male player ranked below 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. The matches took place on court number 12 in Melbourne Park. Braasch first took on Venus and beat her 6–2. He then played Serena and won 6–1. Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance." He added that he had played like someone ranked 600th in order to keep the game "fun".

I think pretty much Curling only (if any).

All the others aren't accurate I think.

So with Stock Car Racing how would men have a better advantage then?

Superior physical strength, superior reflexes and superior split second risk evaluation and decisiveness.

Do we have any evidence to support that males have better reflexes? I don't know many people to support such a thing.

if we assume women where gathers while men where hunters, and that men fought other men for the right to mate, i could see how men have or need faster reflexes. however i would be interested in a scientific test. i have been bewildered before.

Yes, I do not have scientific evidence for any of my claims here. That includes physical strength (of which I am completely sure).

The insecurity in this thread is hilarious, you all know exactly why men don't compete with women in sports, it's because they're terrified of being beaten by them Tongue most men make up all sorts of excuses and patronising comments to avoid the very idea that women could possibly do something the same as them and because old white men are all managers and politicians, they're the most insecure people of them all so they do everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen on an international scale.

Seriously though I can't think of a specific sport but I would say one that doesn't require physical abilities and mainly focuses on the mental side (so probably chess, checkers etc...).

In tennis there is a close level between Serena and the 3-4 Top male players but The stats like Serve speed are mostly for males.

Pretty much any sport where strength, speed or size are not the primary determination of winner.
Archery, shooting, curling, race car driving, equestrian etc.
You forgot to mention spatial awareness, which men are better at. That would include anything that involves manipulating anything in 3D space, so shooting, driving, throwing, etc.
And no. I'm not trolling. It's been proven that women are worse at spatial relationships between objects in 3D space.
I realize modern society doesn't want to admit it, but men and women are different not just physically but mentally as well. Men are better are certain things, while women are better at others. One gender is not better or worse than the other overall, but we are different. That's not a bad thing.

I would vote for Chess. There have been incidents where women grandmasters have beaten their male counterparts in chess. Other sports are way off the mark, and females stand no chance.
There has been one female chess player who has ranked in the top 100 in the world and has won matches against chess world champions. The problem is the same as in other sports without a test of strength like Snooker or Darts - there are not enough women competing from a young age to identify those skilful enough to become champions.

Tennis? Definitely not. The female players will be destroyed by the male ones. The hard fought victory by Billie Jean King against the 55-year old Bobby Riggs can't be taken as an evidence to claim that the female players might be able to compete with the males.

Yeah.   tennis would be a no go.

 I like my 3  picks :

1) pool/billards/8ball/9ball
2) bowling
3) horse racing jockeys

In all of the above women have defeated men in world class events.

car racing is a good pick
shooting guns is also good

And one more :

there was a women fast toss softball pitcher  she would beat mens teams. pitch no hitters etc.

I'd say shooting guns would be on the list potentially.  Not sure some of the things being listed on this thread are really sports but that is just me.

Maybe small guns but larger ones with more kickback might not be as steady unless they have the muscle/strength to counter it.

Came here to say Olympic equestrian but someone already said it.

Will go with Olympic sailing, it has some open gender events. I believe equestrian and sailings are the only events were men and women compete against each other. There are some mixed gender team sports like tennis but that's not the same thing.

Men and women could compete again teach other in shooting but at the Olympics the separate events by gender to get a higher participation rate from women.
