Bitcoinaire did you manage to solve the problem? pooya87 is posted links from github, on first one some users are solved same problem after updating to new version of wallet and run in console this command :

Code:
wallet.keystore.update_password(None,'your password here')
wallet.save_keystore()

You should try everything to get access to that coins, and that include posting in Github or Reddit, it seems that problem is still exists on Windows OS, maybe this one is related to your version of Windows 8.1.

I'll be trying those, thanks.

I found it, yes, random letters and numbers.
Just to state the obvious... you might want to make a couple of backup copies of your wallet file prior to messing about with it Wink

(The wallet should have been in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ElectronCash\wallets)

Thanks

 I am using 3.1.2.

Downloaded 3.2 and still same issue.

I downloaded the. exe version, would another possibly work? Portable or source? Also, running windows 8.1.

there shouldn't be a difference between the installed and portable but sometimes portable can work in bugs like this so it is worth a try. make sure you close electron-cash properly before you reopen it (check the taskbar or your task manager to see if it is closed.

maybe others have some suggestions but if eventually the problem wasn't solved your only other option is to start a new issue on github. remember to mention you have created the wallet with an old version but upgraded to a new version.

Find your wallet file and open it. See what's inside. A lot of random letters and numbers or comprehensible informations about the wallet?

which version are you using, there has been some bugs with passwords in the past in the older versions which are now fixed.
look at these:
https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/431
https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/534

this pull request should have fixed this issue:
https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/pull/449

look at these they have similar issues like you but with an old version a couple of months ago:

https://github.com/fyookball/electrum/issues/534

this pull request should have fixed this issue:

if you do have an old version then try upgrading. the latest version is 3.2

Well, AFAIK this means that you would either need your wallet password or the seed to restore the wallet (which would also reset the password). Without any of them, your coins are most likely gone.

My password works when I initially login into electron cash but then says incorrect password when I try to send them.

This is the address.

Find your wallet file and open it. See what's inside. A lot of random letters and numbers or comprehensible informations about the wallet?

Also, go to the Addresses tab (View -> Show Addresses), find your non-empty address, right click it and choose "Private-Key". Is is asking for the password? Do you see many addresses or just the one that you sent the coins to?

When I go to addresses, View -> Show Addresses, and right click it and choose "Private-Key", it does ask for password and when I enter it it says incorrect password.
The address that I clicked was the one with the balance.

I can't find the wallet file. When Im in electron cash, click wallet information, its says "wallet_default "but cannot find in windows explorer.

Do you have your Electron Cash wallet seed stored anywhere? If so, you can just restore it again and skip the password setup.

What do you see when you go to Wallet -> Seed?

It's grayed out. Damn it, I dont know why I didnt write a seed down.

That is just a disaster. I might had bang my head on the wall if this happens to me. And you thought paper is much safer right?
Which is why I don't try to create one even when I have the chance to because I'm a holder. I had thought of creating an XRP paper wallet since I don't trust online wallet and there were no official downloadable XRP wallet. Hope you solve your case.

I have bitcoin cash on an old paper wallet that had bitcoin on it. I swept the keys into electron cash and several hours later I went to send them to an exchange, but couldn't send them, it said incorrect password.

When I open electron cash my password works. When I go to send my bitcoin cash it prompts me to enter the password then it says incorrect password. Also, when I go to change my password it also says incorrect password.

The balance shows up correctly in electron cash too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Not sure if this had anything to do with it, but once I swept the bch into electron cash I immediately proceeded to send them to GDAX. I then realized that the transaction wasn't confirmed yet, so I left and checked back in a few hours. Thats when I ran into the problem with the incorrect password.*
