Well it doesn't hurt if there is an indicator of it being reported. It's just a message saying that it's been reported, and if anyone wants to report it again, then they will be welcome to do so to potentially bump up the priority.

It was meant more as a question to the moderators. Does it help them not to miss stuff if it's reported multiple times or does it just spam up the queue of reports? I think that seeing a post has already been reported would mean most people would not report it again. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

In my point of view, making the report transparent helps everyone to question why a moderator has not deleted or archived a thread. I have seen so many low quality threads with full of spam, that I have reported, but they're still there.

Maybe it's better if we can set them to "ignore" as d5000 suggested.

This is something very annoying,I do go back with a few clicks but I'm not sure when I do this if I report the post again, like it was with the merit. If you give merit and go back, you are giving twice.

I think no, you are not reporting it twice, otherwise, there will be a message saying that you've already posted earlier.

I realize that reporting seems like making a new post, sometimes I got a message that I've posted 30 seconds before so that I need to wait before I can report a post.

In addition to the OP suggestion I would be happy if after the report is done we are not kicked out of the thread but redirected back to the reported post, so we can continues reading.

I'm not sure if reporting twice is a good or a bad thing. For example, I reported this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.28858853 advertising spam a few weeks back and when the (abandoned) thread got bumped again yesterday it was still there so I reported it again. I think a lot of reports go unhandled as there aren't enough mods to deal with them so by reporting again you might increase the chances of it getting deleted. The other side of that is obviously I don't want to spam the mods with reports so I only do it when it's been a long time that the post hasn't been dealt with.

It would be interesting to know what the mods think to your suggestion. Would it be a help or a hindrance to them?

I like this idea as well, make this info for everyone to see so that people don't unnecessarily/unknowingly report the same post twice, I guess.

Though I'm not sure that this is going to be in the top priority list for theymos and staff to implement, though. The merit system is already taking away a lot of load from post reporting it seems. Not sure if they will find time for something that is really optional at this point.

I'm thinking, maybe add a feature like when you click the report to moderator button a pop up dialogue box would appear saying "this post has been reported to the moderator by someone else/you already. Wait for X time if you want to bring up the report again. Thank you!"

X would be time since the post has been reported. Maybe give the mods a week or so? So that reports won't be spammed to mods and the reporters identity would be censored.

I support that initiative, although it could be necessary to restrict visibility of the "reported" tag to avoid abuse, or at least to show the tag in a very decent fashion, using the same font and color as the "report to moderator" link. It could be a good idea to publicly show simply the number of users that have reported it - e.g. "Report to moderator (1)".

Good idea. It also makes the mods' jobs transparent too and make both users and mods aware that both should be working together to make this forum better.

It also opens the possibility on why some low quality threads with 1 million pages and with FULL of spam are still allowed to live.

I would also like to be able to ignore entire threads so they don't appear in the forum categories for me. So people could also selectively hide the "grey area" between spam and normal forum posts (most "megathreads" are "only" 95-99% spam, but annoying). But it may be a good idea to discuss that in a separate thread.

Good suggestion. I hope some mods would join in and share their opinions.

I have been reporting low quality threads that attract spam, but sometimes I may have reported some of them twice. Is there a way to mark or indicate them as reported?

I believe showing them publicly as "already reported" to the mods would discourage "newbies" from opening low quality threads.
