you also have to include innovation and utility ,let's take the example of ethereum with its unlimited supply but better price and more mature compared to other altcoins which have maximum supply but no conspicuous use ,how will it grow well and last long only rely on supply and demand?
It's always the law of supply and demand that's applicable in every market, not only in crypto but even in stocks and as well as supermarkets. 
About your suggestion, it's good but you just can't depict everywhere what to do and we all have our way of speculating each project that seems to be good.

In flowing the law of demands and supply, it has its own shortcoming and that is over surplus of a commodity and demands so it will not meet the necessary criteria to remain in the stock exchange market, this is the reason most coins with high calculating supply don't last long in the market and investing in them is high risk. One of the factor that influence my decision on the altcoin to invest in is the volume of such coin on the stock market and once I see that the coin is active with good potential I will not mind considering buying in the deep. Since 2022 has presented us with that opportunity with the current deep in the entire cryptocurrency market.
But in the case of altcoin revised is the case as most coins with big supplies may not have good value but some other with small calculating supply tends to easily increase in value within a short period, so I will suggest we make use Of altcoins with limited circulation supplier that those with huge supplies for secured and easy to increase in values.
IMO if that's wrong. The value is calculated based on the total supply of tokens. You can't expect 1 billion tokens to have the same price as 100k tokens that are available in the market coz 100k will be much more rare compared with 1 billion tokens. You can imagine when 1 billion and 100k tokens got the same demand let's say 1 billions USD.
that means 1 billion tokens will have less price compared with 100k tokens. Low supply doesn't always mean if it will increase in value easily. This will be determined by how much money flow to the market.
The demand was also making the price may vary. You can't see that even those meme tokens like shiba has multi-trillions tokens but it has a big marketcap. That means if whether big or low total supply didn't affect the market so much.

That's why it's always too good to be true mate and fundamental analysis and more information is the only key to determine which project can really guarantee afterwards because it's a must. So don't be wondering why its always recommended. because there's no way that you can easily find good project to be honest if you don't have time for that thing..
