don't get too excited, i just checked to be sure but still it seems as if one can't set his avatar/profile-image... 
I am so looking forward to being released from Newbie-Jail....I have to perfect avatar to place!
Avatar can be chosen after u out of the jail.
well, this might be the way its meant to be but currently noone can choose an avatar as explained by deepceleron above

Must have overseen the thread from 5 days ago (the threads title is not giving much hints).
But interesting information tough, wouldn't have thought that code hidden in avatars would get executed...
Lets hope these holes will be fixed somewhen soon so avatar pics upload can be re-enabled even when its of course not the most important thing to have

Uploading avatars has been temporarily disabled, as that is a possibly exploitable security hole on the current forum software. I think you can still be Freddie Prinze Jr, though.

ok, anybody here who changed his avatar picture wanna share with me which option (self-hosted, uploaded) worked for him with which browser used plz?
the subject pretty much sums it up; i've tried to upload my own avatar (80x80px .png image) but for some reason it gets simply ignored and won't show.
is this another restriction due to the fact that i'm still doing time in newbie-jail?
EDIT: ok, now i just should have been released from newbie-jail but it still seems as if my avatar that i try to upload under 'profile' -> 'forum profile information' -> 'i will upload my own picture' + click on 'change profile' has no effect
any ideas?
EDIT2: also tried to specify an external url for my image which also seems to not work
