Thank you for posting this is very informative especially to those who are new in sports betting. I am not familiar to some of the terms. Interesting and very helpful.

agreed  . helpful not only for noobs but also to noobs at heart because  i believe there  are those not really noobs on sports betting but they dont still know some of these terms but they are only betting traditionally   . most of the terms are also i heard on a general form of gambling and not just on sports betting  . lastly , about the parlay  . it say when you loose on the other , you loose all your bet ? how come when you also betted on the other player/team therfor you dont totally loose at all  .

Yeah, i am one of those bettors that don't know most of the terms in OP and i'm glad that i have read them and got to know the meaning of the words that i met and don't know the meaning in the past.

Sharing with you, guys, especially beginners in sports betting, the infographic sourced from https://www.bitcoinsportsbetting.co.uk/news/18-most-common-sports-betting-terms/ where you'll also find the sample sentences for the words listed below.

If there are any words that you think should be part of the list, don't hesitate to comment them below for our enlightenment.

This is indeed very informative, may come in handy esp. among beginners in sports betting.

The sample sentences in the link provided will even make it a lot easier for readers to understand the terms.

Perhaps these terms are also a perfect fit on that list: favorite, in-play or live betting, future betting, and push.

Very cool infographic on betting. At least I learnt the real meaning of Parlay from it.  Keep up the good work, newbies especially will appreciate these collection of terms, all are useful.
There’s a lot if things that you can learn from this Infographic aside from the great graphics. If you are into betting then you must read this one whether you’re a newbie or not because for sure you don’t need everything and that’s why you need to keep on learning.

If you are a newbie in gambling, I don't know if you really need to have to learn this terms by the heart. I mean your foremost concern is to make bet and win. As time goes by and as you gained experience, you might be curious as to what these terms are and we could be anyone of this,  Grin

But yes, this is very helpful, and thanks to the OP.

Thank you for these pieces out up together and I really appreciate, I wish I can also make my own contribution, but unfortunately, I am also not very good in gambling, I am just gradually picking interest in gambling so that I can also participate from time to time on this forum.

Honestly I could get lost sometimes when I see some very bogus languages that people use on this gambling forum and o wish I could participate, but with these little ones here, I think it is more than enough for people like me to start with and also develop more, because I have seen so many that I am yet to see on this list, and I will like to know more on this sport betting,. I will definitely continue to follow this thread to see what other great gamblers (lol) have to contribute also.

Some real nice guide you have there and the one I will agree with so much is the parlay is not a smart bet to make.
Sure it can be a fun and exciting to have the action of more then just 1 game but in the long term the odds will not be in your favorite
My friends like to make a 10 team parlay and I tell him to donate that money to charity because those odds are so bad its not worth it

Very useful for me, I seldom gamble, I only do it if I have free time so I don’t get a chance to know all those terms, honestly, I don’t know most of the terms mentioned above so it’s good this has been published to help people like me to be familiar with those terms.
I'm with you, this is the first time i saw this thread and for me it is very useful since we are interacting to a fellow gambler and we should at least know the term used universally or at least in the forum. If i were to discover this on my own, it would take me at least a year to know all the terms.

Good to hear that, OP really did a great job for the beginners to learn more about sports betting.
You know what, I suggest you explore more in sports gambling so you can all apply that terms you read, I'm playing in nitrogen for my sports gambling also and it's nice to participate in the chat as most of them are sports bettors.
It is good to keep learning about gambling when you will gamble after learning so it will help you follow all the rules about gambling, there are different kind betting, so choose the one and after it make sure explore all betting sites gather knowledge from them and then you will be able to gamble properly, betting related chat group joining can also help you to learn tips, just don’t lose hope and support your betting team till end.

That's only for a "MAYBE"... not to mention noobs are not fond of reading intructions unless it is really needed. INFOGRAPHICS are indeed useful but not all the time, it's just quite amusing to see something new instead of pure letters on a post. Images are somewhat a good language for us all. If many users can read such good Inforgraphics then it is really useful, but if it wasnt getting any attention then it is not.

As for the locked thread. I don't even know why it was locked. It says the admin locked the topic. Any advice on how I can request that it be unlocked?

If it was from a long time ago then, I think making a PM to the Mods will be able to help you, but if not and was just locked by for some reason then I suggest to make a new thread and make it better, so the content will be more interesting to read. AFAIK, Some topics are just being locked by default, if those threads are not gaining any discussions or seems to be unrelevant for the board.

Now that those beginner terms have been presented, perhaps you are interested in knowing the most common sports betting types. Here's a Bitcointalk discussion on the most common sports bets you can make in online sportsbooks: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.51263537

Might be more useful if the threas wasn't lock, although the thread was meant to be somewhat useful, I think it is necessary to leave it open to have brainstorming and gather some other infos that we might wanna know that we haven't know yet.

P.S. I want to see more of infographics that might help the newbies  that wants to go and make a gamble. This is quite interesting, so I'd better watch for your next work.

I'm not a handicapper, not usually, I still do outrights (there's a term for beginners!) like Money Line, but I do take a handicap game every now and then. My "problem" is doing parlays, and not all bookies make it easy for you to parlay handicaps together with outrights.

I believe the definition for "Odds" is also wrong...

One more thing could be to show people the differences in UK and US sports betting terms. I guess you're using American (parlay), it's called accumulators or acca for short in the UK. Odds can also be in various formats. Most common is decimals (American) or fractionals (UK). Wink

Hi, buwaytress! Right, outright should have been included there. As for the meaning of "odds," it has already been changed. Thanks for noticing.

As for the odds format, I believe it can be covered by another topic, perhaps something focused on "advanced sports betting terminologies."

Odds format would be better to be in a basic sports betting terminologies. New gamblers need to know about it more than the advanced users, so the earlier newbies knows the basic terminologies the better they jump into higher step on their sports betting journey.
It would be even better if you compile it into some categories. Lets say put the moneyline, under/over, parlay into "Type of bets" or something similar then put the sharp, highroller, handicapper into a category "Type of bettors" etc.
Just my two cents.

Thanks for these suggestions, Bitinity. We should've thought of this when our content person in charge of this infographic was in the process of outlining the whole thing. Anyways, we'll do better in the next info articles we'll publish.

A lot of people are coming to gambling section and reply to betting related threads without having knowledge about some of this terms so I hope everyone of those people will come here and learn what every term means. This way everyone will be able to understand each other.I think this pretty much sums every term a bettor should know, at least the beginners.
You can really see those people who do have knowledge on sports betting and who has not in terms of their replies on a certain betting thread. You will able to spot out which is totally
newbie and doesn't know about sports and for those people who are knowledgeable. Honestly speaking there 1-3 words in infographic which I didn't know but also there are terms that I do know
that it isn't listed above.

Does not this list sound like it should be for medium advanced or very advanced betters?

For example, you do not need to say chalk or bad beat, I have never seen any bookie or sports better use the terms. We just say favorites and we just say bad streak. At least not online,,, maybe the terminologies are different for an international audience. I think better sports betting terms for beginners are like, "back" and "lay", which are very important to understand.

Stop bumping your own thread continuously in a row, you are breaking the forum's rules. You are allowed to bump your own thread once in 24 hours only. You can reply to those all posts in single post. Don't be offended, it is a friendly advise as there were some members got banned because did the same thing as what you have just did.
One more thing, this topic should be on Gambling discussion section as it is a general gambling discussion. TY

There are two terms that have the same meaning action and odds I think the meaning on the odds could've been better (multiplier, payout, potential win, etc) but overall helpful infographic. I've heard all the terms except for dime if more terms could be added on the list i'd suggest hedge, arbing, teaser, and system  these are some of the terms that you'll hear from other sports bettors.

I've already heard of hedge in sports betting, but I think this is more qualified under "advanced sports betting" terms. Regardless, thanks for sparking my curiosity for the other words you mentioned. Smiley Will include them in the list of terms I need to know (and perhaps share with the community).

Very useful infograph op, there where some terms in the infographic that I haven't heard although I'm still a newbie when it come to gambling so maybe that could be the reason of not coming across those terms. I focus more on football betting that's where I got some skills in predictions as pass history with current team form plays a major past in the outcome of the games.
