All these asics are going to crank up the difficulty until ETH mining is sitting at the bottom of the charts than everyone who spent money on these asics will cry well stop supporting asics manufactures

As many others have been saying throughout this thread - PoS (Proof of Stake) is coming!

I realize the Ethereum team is WAY behind schedule when it comes to implementing any type of PoS protocol, however, this is much more complicated than most people realize. Regardless, the PoS implementation will happen slowly over time, and PoW will not just be suddenly switched off one day. In Vitalik’s Casper the Friendly Finality Gadget (FFG) project, PoS implementation would be slowly transitioned into Ethereum mining over time, while reducing PoW mining rewards until they ultimately reach zero.

To keep on topic, PoW Ethereum mining is not going away anytime soon in my opinion. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to purchase the first batch Antminer E3 for $800 USD some time ago, and although I don't care for the manufacturer, I have been happy with the product and results. Compared to my six 8GB NVIDIA GeForce 1070Ti GPU rigs, the Antminer E3 is currently the much less expensive and overall better choice to mine Ethereum (although the resale value will ultimately diminish, the ROI time is ~5-6 times less).

I am in favor of GPU/CPU mining vs ASIC mining, but the opportunity to purchase ~190 MH/s of stable Ethereum mining that uses ~800 Watts of power for $800 USD is a very sharp double edged sword! Although very limited and not at all versatile when compared to the mineable asset options of a GPU, these ASIC miners can mine other assets as well.

In summary, building a huge Ethereum ASIC mining farm is certainly not the best idea for most, purchasing a few of these miners might not be such a bad idea for some..

I did a calculation. With the 0.16$/kWh electricity price, the ASIC will earn about $1 per day. The ROI is about 800 days now.

Yeah, I agree, POS will be the way of the future, BUT, we are in the present right now, not the future, so what I try to do is pick hybrid coins with both POW, and POS, that way as the difficulty gets higher and the electric costs begin to approach the proceeds from mining, the staking rewards come in and start to offset the diminishing mining rewards. Of course sometimes it's a better deal to mine some other non-POS coin and sell them to buy the one you really want, but as far as HODL coins, POS is the winner. (With some obvious exceptions) So far so good anyways.

Isn’t gonna happen. Did you just see the report coming from bitmain. 1billion$ profit for first quarter.  They are now beholding to investors to keep up profits or they suffer the same demise as all other pump and dump companies.   Someone knows something we don’t. Or we can’t foresee. I see bitmain taking over crypto. I guess others think yayyy great for decentralization keep pumping out toaster. I did just see a report we had the hottest recorded month long temp ever recorded on earth.  I think bitmain can do better. Maybe we can push for the hottest year. Keep it up!!!   Also I would love to see the profit reports of the other asic manufacturers.  It would show just how centralized this really is

3250€ without VAT fot the basic version. Close to 4000€ with shipping and VAT.
Cheaper to get 12 RX580 + mobo + CPU and RAM.
Interesting for those paying a hi electricity cost.

I think it is much more efficient than RX580.

Jeez, why are Innosilicon always 3-4X the price? I could get behind 10-20% more based on them being great quality, but I had an A4 and it was good, but I wouldn't call the quality great. The hashrate would drop down to 1/3 what it should be then sometimes jump up to 4x what it was supposed to be rated for. On average it would come out to what it was supposed to, but it was constantly changing hashrate and fan speed, drastically. Also the power usage. Sometimes it would draw so much it would restart the power supply (1200w EVGA platinum) or flip the breaker. It did hash away for a long time, so I can't complain too much don't get me wrong, but it doesn't make me want to spend 3-4X the price.

As I see these miners have much better efficiency than GPU-mining. After massive production of these ASICs ETH mining difficulty will raise significantly that’s why POW mining will be changed to POS and these miners will be switched to other Ethash coins. POW mining slowly will die.

This new miner won't be for the small time miners.  Knowing Innsilicon, they'll probably make MOQ about 100 units.

When you increase the barrier for entry you block out someone that could have had the answer for all your problems.  But I know those that have power like to stay in power whether or Not it’s good for the rest of us or not.  Keep pushing out those that had heart for this into the hands of those that just want to see others suffer so that they can have a better life turns this whole project into nothing better than fiat.  Except we now take money printing out of the hands of the federal reserve right back into the hands of more bad actors.  Until we start as humans looking at the real root of the problem “money” then we are just going to keep playing this dance.

I can’t wait for ai to be used for good. Not for fucking ad revenue generators.  Fuck my life. What are we doing people.  Is this really the best we can do?

Hell the rap industry is built around it.  So it gets passed down from generation to gerarion.   What we need to love is ourselves and our environment. Otherwise the rest won’t matter.

How do you people still not under stand the whole PoS thing? Even when it goes into production it will only be on a limited scale, its not like they are gonna flip a switch and turn off eth mining overnight. Do 10 minutes of research so you dont sound so dumb.

Even if Ethereum does its big casper fork soon so what? There are plenty of other Ethash coins you can point your ASIC hardware towards instead. Hell, Ethereum isn't even the most profitable Ethash coin to mine right now. I just don't follow the logic that Ethereum's fork would immediately turn this thing into a door stopper.

Not sure why no one here is talking about POS, if it comes in the next 6 months you won't make your money back.

You might be new so here is the quick answer: Because people have been talking about it for 3 years and it hasn't happened... Asic Manufacturers quit waiting around Wink

Been mining for about 2 years now and while it has been delayed for so many times, I feel like this time around POS seems more likely to happen. With all the developments and activity going on in the Ethereum github page, pretty soon all mining may come to an end.

The E3 may probably be the last ASIC i buy. The 11 series GPUs may turn out to be a good investment if anything, for resale value.

Casper will not be launch before 2019 so POS....

11x series will beat that efficency and is more flexible, 5k on an eth only miner is risky
with new gpus comming out in next 6 months.

Remeber current gpus are 3 years old, all these eth asics show is they asic developers have better asics
replacing these so they are dumping

Even with the current generation + Acorn M.2 this is not worth.

Those that got $800 E3's would be wise to just sell theirs right now for a little less than what a new one costs.

Why? USD 800 for first Batch E3 sounds ok to go and keep. Better the folks that bought the next batch for 1876 USD
think about reselling bevor it even arrives, lol.

Thx for the prices by the way!  Wink

You're likely to make more profit on the short term sale of the miner than you are mining profits long term.

By comparison the E3 is very inefficient to the 365MH A10. That's going to cause it's value to drop.

It's all a gamble but for those looking to make some nice $$$ short term, it's a good move.

Difficulty getting ready to spike again.

it's about $5000 for the 485MH model

it's about $4400 for the 430MH model

it's about $3800 for the 365MH model

Source: Article in this thread, translated and converted from Euros.

So basically they doubled the price of the E3 to give you double the hashrate in the 365MH model with better power efficiency.

This saves roughly $1000 USD a year for 485mh/s at $0.10/kwh using Rx 570 efficiency.

This 2x efficiency gap can be closed with a node shrink. It also does not offer price/perf improvements (but depends how low inno can sell it), and next gen GPUs will have better price/perf.

gtx 1170 $499, 60mhs, 120w, 0.5khs per 1 watts, 8.3 usd per 1mhs, 8 gtx 1170 = 480mhs, 960 watts, $4000 + motherboard + cpu + psu and other things $5000.

a10 $5k for the 485mhs 850w, 0.57khs per 1 watts, 10.3 usd per 1mhs

The a10 will be the same as 8 gtx 1170, gtx 1170 will hold resale value, although the idea of this asic is good, is just too late for the party but as always, they have been mining with them for sometime, so they will get roi, the people who buys this, no.

if amd releases a rx 680 with gddr6, hashrate wise will be pretty much the same, price point i guess $299.

the asic is hassle free, plug and play, nvidia is not as bad as amd, so nvidia is easier to manage but gpu mining as always is horrible, too many parts, too many things to do, a lot of work, so is a hard choice here, lot of work with resale value or plug and play and forget resale value.

gtx 1170 availability, September.

how did u know bout gtx1170 hsrate?

The next Amd cards will be based off the vega 20 , which is 7nm
Where do you get the rx 680?

I agree the 1170 will do 50 to 60mhs , the 2000 dollar volta previw cards that came out last year did 90mhs

Not sure if its worth it with eth going POS.  Anyone have a timeline when POS will happen?  I'd love yo buy some if I have time to make decent return.

Don’t worry about pos.  The manufacturers know what’s up.  Coins can’t be asic resistant so in the end whether you wanna jump hoops etc with gpu coins in end it will end up here.——->asic. There will always be a place for this asic. Buy some if you want to.  You’ll regret it if you do and you’ll regret if you don’t. Trust me. Hahahaha. It’s crypto!!  These machines just aren’t made to last.  Everything used is just enough to get the job done in ideal conditions.  Any one variable off and poof. They just don’t give a shit.  It’s like anything else in the world. Make it last long enough where you don’t get too pissed when it breaks and short enough to keep this thing called capitalism afloat.  DYOR. Don’t let another person on here persuade you one way or another.  Make it for your own reasons and you’ll be much better off.  It’s only you to blame when you make that mistake. No one else.
